On Friday, November 19, 2010, a Quick Links historic and incredible milestone was reached by AFC Volunteer Angel Flight Central Pilot Lewis Young. Join our list Dr. Young began flying for AFC in January 2001 and by the time the organization went from a paper notebook to an on-line Coordination System, Lewis had already flown 118 flights! His flights aren't short commutes, either! Residing in western Kansas, Lewis oftentimes Lewis (left) with Susan Durham and Dan Mayworm in Sept. 2006 must fly significant distances to pick up the passengers before and after the actual "angel flight" begins and ends! His passion to assist those in need with his time, talent and treasure is unparalleled in comparison. Next summer, Lewis has promised his family that his "golden" wings will be retired. His ten-plus years of flying for Angel Flight Central, the incredible achievements and seemingly unbeatable milestones will be permanently etched in the record-books. But the impact that Lewis has had, and continues to have, in the hearts and souls of the hundreds and hundreds of passengers he's flown will be as relevant in 50 years as it is today. The Corks & Hearts Were A-Poppin' AFC's "Wine Flight 2010" was held at Starlight Theatre on November 19th with over 400 guests that opened their hearts and pocketbooks to the organization's purpose at a record setting pace. Attendees were treated to the Moon City Big Band, Ready for Dinner! hundreds of varieties of wine from all across the nation, a silent and live auction, wine "Frost-Bites" from Doug Frost, and a heart-tugging presentation featuring AFC's Volunteer Pilot of the Year, Sue Roth. This year's Wine Flight was so successful due to the hard work and dedication of the Chairs and planning committee. The Wine Flight Event Co-Chairs were Andy and Tracey DeMarea. Andy is a Past-President Andy & Tracey of AFC and Tracey assisted for several years DeMarea, Event Co-Chairs as an office volunteer. The honorary Chair was Tom & Denise Holcom, a current Advisory Board Member, Past-President and longtime major supporter of the organization. Tom's wife Denise provided beautiful words of encouragement at the event. Board Of Trustees Announces Safety Committee The Board of Trustees has named the members of the AFC Safety Committee; whose ongoing commitment it will be to promote and ensure the highest level of wellbeing for our passengers and volunteer pilots. This working- committee will discuss, review, recommend and educate everyone involved with the organization to assure a prevalent "culture of safety" in the programs offered as well as our policy and procedures. Triality, Inc., is a not-for-profit agency that provides day habilitation services for Clay and Platte County residents with mental and physical disabilities, and therapies, education and child care for medically fragile and/or developmentally delayed children.
