Dwadasamsa Varga by Ernst Wilhelm Dwadasamsa Varga By Ernst Wilhelm www.astrology-videos.com “Parents from Dvadasama.” Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra states that the Dwadasamsa indicates parents. Parents refers not only to the father and mother, but to all the other parental ancestors that came before them, those in their past lineage: grandparents, great grandparents, great-great grandparents, etc. The Dvadasamsa is the cumulative effect of the direct ancestors and the affects the karmas of the ancestors have upon the life of the individual. dvädaçäàçasya gaìanä tattatkñeträdvirnidiçet teñämadhéçäù kramaço gaìeçä'çvi-yamähayäù “The Dvadasamsas go from that Rasi, their lords have the order Ganesha, Asvin, Yama and Haya. Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra: Shodasavargas, 15 The Dvadasamsa is very simply calculated by dividing each Rasi into 12 parts of 2 degrees 30 minutes with the first part being the same sign as the Rasi in question and the other eleven parts continuing in the regular order around the zodiac. The Dvadasamsa follows the same calculation principle as does the Hora, Drekkana and Chaturthamsa. 36. In (each) sign there are dvadasamsas which fill the sign with their own influences. There are subtle modifications in respect to height or depth of action when (their) influences are combined with those of the terms (Dasas). Yavana Jataka 16. When the lord of the dvadasamsa in the ascendent is the strongest lord or is in a cardine, it establishes that the nature of the native is made that of the sign to which the dvadasamsa belongs. Yavana Jataka DVADASAMA DEITIES The twelve Dvadasamsa Deities are a set of four repeated three times, the four are: Ganesha, Asvins, Yama and Haya. Ganesha: 1st, 5th & 9th Dvadasamsas Ganesha symbolizes the sound of Aum, the sound of the "word of God" the cosmic vibration that creates and sustains the entire universe and which is the gateway back to Spirit. Ganesha is the patron deity of astrology, the Lord of Beginnings and the Lord of Obstacles. He is to be prayed to upon the beginning of all new things or else he is want to throw obstalces into one's path. Prayer to Ganesha is an admittance that all is being done at the Word of God, knowing this, how can anything be an obstacle? The Ganesha Dvadasamsa represents important beginnings that are founded upon past deeds and the creative power of the ancestors to bring something new into our lives. Asvins: 2nd, 6th & 10th Dvadasamsas The Asvins are the Divine Horseman who are the sons Surya and Saranya, goddess of clouds and the daughter of Vishvakarma. They are twins who are the patron deities of medicine and healing. One of the twins is called Nasatya, meaning helpful, the other is Dasra, giving wonderful aid. Between the two of them they provide all beneficient and wonderful things that help one maintain the quality of life. The Asvins Dvadasamsa provides the needed things that allow for something to be maintained and enjoyed. 1 Yama: 3rd, 7th & 11th Dvadasamsas Yama was the first born of man who along with his twin were born from the Sun. Yama is the god of death who leads the disembodied souls into one of the darker or brighter regions of the astral world according to each individual’s merit. Yama was the first of mankind to die and being the first to die, he became the lord of the dead. The word Yama literally means a bridle or rein and refers to the ideas of control and restraint. The Yama Dvadasamsa provides restraint and the ability for discipline, but also difficulties that must be disciplined and controlled. Haya: 4th, 8th & 12th Dvadasamsas Haya, or Hayagriva is a horse headed aspect of Vishnu and the deitiy of knowledge and wisdom. Haya represents the power of knowledge which, guided by Vishnu, overcomes all demonic and dark forces and thus gives peace and prosperity. The Haya Dvadasamsa gives the fulfillment that comes from knowledge and understanding and the knowledge that allows one to overcome any and all difficulties. Ultimately this Dvadasamsa gives the knowledge and understanding obtained even after all else is left behind. IMPORTANT BHAVAS IN THE DVADASAMSA 12th Bhava: The primary Bhava to consider in the Dvadasamsa due to the Dvadasamsa being the 12th Varga is the 12th Bhava. The 12th Bhavas represents our past and where we came from; our ancestors represent our path and where we came from, thus these two are the same. The 12th Bhava reveals weather we come from a fruitful past that will continue bearing favorable fruits or whether we came from a frustrated past that will continue to plague us. 9th Bhava: Squaring 12 gives 144, which reduces to 9, thus the results of our past indicated by the 12th Bhava are the parenting influence of our parents, the 9th Bhava. 3rd Bhava: Adding up digits in the number 12 gives 3, so the 3rd Bhava is also an important Bhava to consider in the Dvadasamsa. This Bhava represents the associates and siblings that strongly influenced our past and which still yet influence our present life. 6th Bhava: Adding up all the numbers in the number 12 gives 6, so the 6th Bhava is also important in the Dvadasamsa. This Bhava represents the work yet needed to be done to pay for those things of the past. MOST IMPORTANT GRAHAS IN THE DVADASAMSA The Dasamsa is the 12th Varga, but the 8th Varga given by Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and so the 8th Graha, Rahu, along with its counterpart, Ketu, are the most important Grahas to examine in the Dvasamsa. It is these two Grahas that represent the karmic path upon which our consciousness develops. These two Grahas also represent our ancestors. On our father's side, Rahu rules our paternal grandfather and his ancestors while Ketu rules our paternal grandmother and her ancestors. On our mother's side, Rahu rules our maternal grandmother and her ancestors while Ketu rules our maternal grandfather and his ancestors. Ketu represent the important deeds done by our ancestors that are influencing our life today while Rahu represents the deeds not fully completed by our ancestors which we ourselves must strive to perfect. Ketu is more significant in relationship to the 12th Bhava and Rahu to the 6th Bhava. 2 THE LAGNA'S DVADASAMSA ACCORDING TO JATAKA PARIJATA 119. If a person be born in a Dwadasamsa owned by Aries, he will be a mischievous robber and take to the evil ways and practices of such a vicious class of people. If a person be born in a twelfth portion of a sign owned by Taurus, he will have plenty of women and wealth and will suffer from diseases. If a person be born in a Dwadasamsa belonging to Gemini, he will be a gambler but well-conducted. 120. If a person be born in a Dwadasamsa of Cancer, he will be addicted to bad practices. If a person be born in a Dwadasamsa owned by Leo, he will be virtuous, engaged in the business of a king and will be attended by brave men. If a person be born in a Virgo Dwadasamsa, he will be a gambler and addicted to women. If a person be born in a Libra Dwadasamsa), he will be engaged in trade and have abundance of money. 121. If a person be born in a Dwadasamsa owned by Scorpio, he will be a murder loving master of rogues and robbers. If a person be born in a Dwadasamsa belonging to Sagittarius, he will diligently pay homage to the Manes, Brahmins and the gods. If a person be born in the Dwadasamsa of Capricorn, he will be the lord of growing grains and will have servants. If a person be born in an Aquarius dwadasamsa, he will be a mischief maker. If a person be born in a Pisces Dwadasamsa, he will be rich and learned. DVADASAMSAS OF THE GRAHAS ACCORDING TO YAVANA JATAKA Aries Dvadasamsa The Sun, which is renowned for its brilliance, if it is in a dvadasamsa (bhaga) of Aries, produces the power of the (native’s) father; the Moon in that place establishes a disease of his mother by means of changes caused by blood and bile; Jupiter makes a man having a treasure of gold and goats whose wealth is destroyed by thieves, fire, and foes; Venus one whose wife is polluted, hostile, or dead; Mars a clever man with famous wealth; 3. Mercury one who speaks much, but in a stumbling way, a fickle person whose friends are ill- behaved and terrible; and Saturn a vile man whose treasure is gained by the acquisitions of his servants, but a strong and handsome man. Taurus Dvadasamsa The Sun in a dvadasamsa of Taurus destroys the beauty of his father; the Moon gives prosperity, happiness, and food of his mother; Jupiter bestows firm and extensive wealth; Venus (produces) a man who has intercourse with lovely women and wives; Mars a pauper; Mercury one who is friendly with women and has a firm, loud voice; and Saturn a man who is doorkeeper in a harem and whose body is slowly overcome by old age. Gemini Dvadasamsa The Sun in a dvadasamsa of the third sign (Gemini) makes his father one who practices such things as sacrifices and is wealthy in family; the Moon, which creates beauty, the respect of good men, and power, causes the happiness of his mother; 7. Jupiter one whose money is gathered from the fine arts, oratory, and the sacred traditions (sruti); Mars a person who is the same to men and women and who has ignoble sons; Venus a man with handsome form who is learned in the fine arts, a clever person who takes pleasure in women; Mercury one who is learned in oratory, sacred traditions (sruti), and crafts, whose friends are famous, and who speaks sweetly; and Saturn a fickle person who practices mischief and bad craftsmanship, and whose old age is attained with the strength of youth.

XVII.—The Ante-Brdhmanical Religion of the Hindus. By the REV. DE. STEVENSON. [Bead March 15, 1845.] IT is a matter of no small difficulty to give a general view of the Reli- gion of India, and so to arrange the different Deities composing the Hindu Pantheon, as to place before the student of Hindu Mythology a connected and harmonious system of the religious belief of the natives of Hindustan. Brahma for example is styled the Creator of the Universe, and yet almost totally disregarded, not even a single temple being erected to his honour, although creation is one of the chief grounds of religious worship. Vishnu in the system stands forth as the Preserver, but in the eye of his votaries consisting of myriads in every part of the country, the world owes its origin, as well as its preservation to him; and Siva, though systematic writers tell us he is to be regarded as the author of Destruction, and the third God of the Hindu Triad, is worshipped by millions as the Supreme God, the Pre- server as well as the Destroyer, the Imparter equally with the Taker away of life.

  • Divisional Charts by Hank Friedman
Divisional Charts by Hank Friedman Part One: What Are Divisional Charts? Divisional charts are charts that are created by dividing each sign into a number of sections, and then assigning a sign to each slice, and then placing planets into a new chart based upon which sign they occupy in the section. For example, the most important and most widely used divisional chart is called the Navamsha. Nava means nine, and so each sign is divided into nine sections. In the above diagram, the 30o of Aries is divided into 9 sections, starting with the sign Aries itself. Each wedge is 30o ÷ 9 = 3o 20' of arc. For example, if any planet in a birth chart is at 4o of Aries, it will be in the Taurus slice of the 9 sections, and that planet will be placed in Taurus in the Navamsha chart. In Vedic astrology, many divisions are used, each to indicate specific themes in a person's life. Divisional charts are also called Varga charts, Amsha charts, sub-charts, and D-charts. Part Two: The Most Commonly Used Divisional Charts. 1. The Navamsha D9 (9 sections) has many uses, but is most often used to indicate the events and tone of ones partner and their relationship with them. [Reminder on the Vedic approach: if a planet is poorly placed in a divisional chart, then during its dasa, something becomes amiss. For the Navamsha, it could be that there are conflicts with the spouse, or it might mean that there is not enough time spent with the spouse, or that the Divisional Charts Page 1 spouse is wrestling with difficulties of some sort in their own lives.

  • Introduction to Indian Vedic Astrology
Introduction to Indian Vedic astrology Indian astrology is popularly referred to as Vedic astrology. This is not because it is there in the Vedas. There is no mention of astrology in the Vedas. However, it is one of the Vedangas, i.e., limb or branch of Vedas, and dates back to the Vedic period. Several of the Poojas and remedial measures prescribed in the Indian astrology are as per the Vedic system. Hence, it is called Vedic astrology. The Vedangas are six in number. They are: Siksha or phonetics, Kalpa or ritual, Vyakarana or grammar, Nirukta or etymology, Chhandas or metrics and Jyotishya or astronomy and astrology. These are mentioned in the Upanishads. It is impossible ascertain the exact time of origin of our astrology. Even the most famous historians differ wildly, from 1200 BC to 2500 BC while trying to fix our Vedic period. A lot of them, especially the westerners, still study India based on the Mahenjadaro and Harappan discoveries, which were discovered in the 1920’s!! Several archeological discoveries of recent times date our culture to 7500 BC, making it the ancient most civilization in the world. Our astrology has details of the horoscopes of Lord Krishna, Lord Rama and many other ancient Indian kings and queens, recorded thousands of years ago. The Bhishma Parva and Udyoga Parva chapters of Mahabharata mention many astrological descriptions and omens just before the Mahabharata war. It also describes a period of draught with several planetary combinations. There is also a very clear reference about two eclipses, a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse occurring, creating a rare 13 day lunar fortnight.

  • Hindu Castes and Sects an Exposition of the Origin of the Hindu Caste
HINDU CASTES AND SECTS. PREF A.CE. IN the last edition of my" Commentaries on Hindu Law" I devoted a chapter to the Hindn Caste System which attracted the attention of the Publishers, and they suggested that the subject might well be expanded so as to be brought out as a separate volume. They suggested also that, in order to make the book complete, I should give an account not only of the Castes, but also of the important Hindu Sects, some of which are practically so many ""new Castes. As I had heen already engaged in writing a book about the hisfury and philosophy of religions, the prp posal, so far as the sects were concerned, was welcome indeed. About the Castes I felt very considerable diffidence; but it seemed to me that, in a town like Calcutta, where there are men from every part of India, it might not be quite impossible to collect the necessary information. When, however, I actually commenced my enquiries, then I fully realised the difficulty of my task. The original information contained in this work has been derived from a very large number of Hindn gentlemen hailing from different parts of India. I here iv PRBFACK. gratefully acknowledge the kindness that they have shown in according to me their assistance. I feel very ;trongly inclined to insert in this book a list of their names. But the publication of snch a list is not de sirable for more reasons than one. To begin with, such a list would be necessarily too long to be conveniently included.
