Press Release Huge Crowd Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao Wealth of entertainment options entice bumper number of visitors to come and welcome 2015 with live music, street entertainment, 3-D light and sound countdown show and spectacular pyrotechnics (Macao, Jan. 1, 2015) – New Year’s Eve at Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao once again welcomed thousands of visitors who were enthralled by the wealth of entertainment options that catered for every kind of reveller, from those who wanted to brave the elements to those who preferred to watch a live feed of the countdown with a glass of champagne in the Venetian’s ballroom. A huge crowd turned up at The Venetian Macao to enjoy the festivities and party atmosphere and say goodbye to 2014 and ring in 2015. The free outdoor Winter in Venice New Year’s Eve Countdown event was very well attended with people enjoying live music, dancers and an amazing acrobatic performance by Kinetix. Guests also interacted with street performers, actors and musicians who roamed about delighting children and adults alike. The highlight for the assembled crowd in the Venetian’s outdoor area was the 3-D light and sound New Year’s Eve Countdown Spectacular which transformed the façade of The Venetian Macao into a countdown clock for the final five minutes of 2014, allowing everyone to see in 2015 together. At midnight a spectacular pyrotechnics show ushered in the New Year, after which the festivities continued. While this festival was going on outside, many revelers welcomed the New Year at The Venetian Macao’s New Year’s Eve gala Light up 2015. -

Through your generosity, Moore School faculty, staff and students have excelled and gained momentum in many ways: • The Undergraduate Excellence Initiative is in its third year, and students have shown that when they are asked to step up, they do and will meet those higher expectations. Further, the caliber of new freshmen continues to rise, as reflected in higher SAT scores among incoming freshmen (at an average of 1299 for fall 2018, up from 1218 in fall 2015). • In fall 2016, undergraduate students started taking four years of undergraduate business courses, including taking statistics in both their freshmen and sopho- more years. This year, all sophomores will take a more robust final core statistics course that includes programming in R, working with a virtual data lab to manage data in SQL and learning to present that data graphically in Power BI. • Alumni engagement has increased significantly, both in time and giving, reflected in more than 100 students being mentored by Moore School alumni over the last year and more than 2,300 gifts being given. Overall, more than 3,000 alumni responded to opportunities to engage. A greater alumni presence on Moore Connect has been pivotal to this increased engagement. -

Gratifications about Reality Television “The Voice of China” among Chinese Audience (66 pp.) Advisor : Assoc. Prof. Boonlert Supadhiloke, Ph. D. ABSTRACT The main objective of this study is to apply the uses and gratifications approach to investigate “The Voice of China”, the most successful talent show in china for past two years. The research examines the motives for watching and satisfaction of audience through comparing the gratifications sought and gratifications obtained. A quantitative survey is be used to collect data. The samples are selected by convenience sampling method and all of the samples are 231. The mean and standard deviation are tabulated and analyzed by using paired sample t-test. The finding suggests that the primary motives for watching “The Voice of China” among Chinese audiences are social interaction, entertainment and relaxing, but not vicarious participation or perceived reality. University of South Carolina Moore School of Business RECRUITMENT AND SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS What programs and initiatives has your school found successful in the recruitment of minority and/or female students? The Moore School of Business is committed to fostering diversity among its graduate (and undergraduate) student population. To that end, we make efforts to recruit minorities and female candidates. Specific to minority recruiting, we purchase lists of minority candidates from the Graduate Management Admissions Search Service throughout the calendar year. We send direct mail and email communications to these candidates to promote awareness about graduate business programs, events and application deadlines. The Moore School recruiting efforts almost always include visits to historically Black colleges/universities (HBSUs) to attend graduate school fairs. Recruiting women to the Moore School of Business has been less of a challenge owing to the fact that the school’s namesake is Ms. Darla Moore who donated more than $75 million to the school. Moore was the first woman to grace the cover of Fortune magazine and has served as a role model for women in business for more than two decades. However, we do have a specific recruiting brochure, Moore Women, that features many of our successful students, alumni and faculty. This brochure is sent to female inquiries and prospects throughout the calendar year. Abstract In 2012, the most popular reality TV show in China was The Voice of China (TVoC). It is an adaptation of The Voice of Holland, the format of which has been traded to many countries. Unlike its international versions, audiences cannot vote in TVoC due to government regulations. This research focuses on audience engagement with TVoC (2012), in light of this crucial difference. To investigate how audiences engage and make meanings with the show, this thesis is the first study approaches audience engagement in China by examining the tensions between government media policies, industry strategies and audience reception. Building on existing literature on media convergence and participatory culture in the West, this thesis argues that Internet technologies alongside social media enable and stimulate individual critical thinking and creativities which resist structural constraints such as censorship and commercialisation. Although direct online political participation is censored in China, audiences express and negotiate power as ways to construct political values. These online engagements bring new perspectives to understand participatory culture and ‘empowerment’ of audiences. Using political economy frameworks, this thesis highlights the power of government media policies in shaping TV industry and media content. -
