More than 100 residents, staff, and coworkers reside at this thriving senior community, tucked between the rolling hills and ponds of a former dairy farm. Camphill Ghent has the distinction of being the only integrated elder care community in New York state. It was honored with the Hobart Jackson Cultural Diversity Award in 2018 by LeadingAge, a national association representing 6,000 nonprofit aging services organizations throughout the United States. At Camphill Ghent, residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities are members of the hand chimes choir, making music alongside residents who are former music teachers and choir enthusiasts. Others participate in volunteer projects, or read and write poetry alongside former professors
