Welcome September 2020 www.archwaytrust.co.uk

Overview

Due to the unfortunate situation surrounding the Covid-19 and subsequent school closures, we recognise that Year 6 students and parents will understandably be feeling a range of emotions around starting secondary school. We have produced this guide and various online activities to help ease the transition process so that Year 6s can start to get to know their new school, the staff, and students. If you have any questions please email us at: Bluecoat Aspley [email protected] Bluecoat Beechdale Academy—[email protected] Bluecoat Academy—[email protected] The Emmanuel School—[email protected] We would also encourage you to follow us on social media to see all the things that we do. If you are not able to attend the live date a recorded version will be on the school website after the event. The purpose of these sessions are to give parents and students an understanding of the differences between primary school and secondary school and provide some tips about what parents can do to help their children prepare to make the move to secondary school. They are intended for parents/carers although students are welcome to join us with their parent. School virtual tour

Getting lost is part of what being new to a school is all about. You don’t need to worry as our teachers understand that the school is new to the students and know that sometimes they may not be able to find where they are going in the first few weeks. This is a pre-recorded virtual tour. Our senior leadership team will show you some of the key areas of the school so that students can start to feel familiar with where they will be next year. You can find the virtual tour on the Year 6 transition area of our website here: Bluecoat Aspley Academy— Click Here Bluecoat Beechdale Academy— Click Here Bluecoat Wollaton Academy— Click Here The Nottingham Emmanuel School— Click Here Meet the staff online presentations

One of the main differences between primary and secondary schools is the amount of teachers that students meet during the school day. Students will move from lesson to lesson and be taught by up to six teachers every day. The staff presentations will introduce you to the staff in each department and help you learn more about the school. Students will also have the opportunity to access some activities to help them prepare. You can find the presentations on our website here: Bluecoat Aspley Academy—Click Here Bluecoat Beechdale Academy— Click Here Bluecoat Wollaton Academy— Click Here The Nottingham Emmanuel School—Click Here Individual family contact

Throughout the summer term our pastoral teams and senior leaders have been making contact with each and every family who has gained a place at one of our schools. These phone calls are really important to us to welcome you to our Archway family and to start to find out about your child's strengths, friendship groups and individual needs. They are also a great way for you to ask your most pressing or personal questions about the school and the transition process.

Remote primary school liaison

Throughout the summer term As well as talking to students and parents we will be arranging contact with the primary schools that your child has come from, to help us get to know your child’s needs. By talking to their teachers at primary school we can ensure that we are finding out how we can support your child as well as gathering information about their strengths and areas for development. Online / telephone SENCO meetings

Available on request Some students may have special educational needs (including hearing impairments) and parents may have individual concerns around the support that is offered to their children. As well as talking to the primary school, we welcome the opportunity to talk to parents about how we can best support your child. To book an appointment please contact: [email protected] Pastoral Information

We care deeply about the health and happiness of your child. Every student is supported by a full time non-teaching Year Leader. This member of staff will get to know you and your child, so that they can flourish and succeed in their school. We take great pride in our high quality pastoral care we offer. If you have any questions about the care your child will receive, please complete our online form— Click Here

Digital letters from current students

Our students know that making the jump to secondary school can be a bit scary as well as exciting. Our students have all been through it and are happy and successful at The Archway Learning Trust. They want to share their experiences with you and your children as well as reassure you that you will have a great time at The Archway Learning Trust, so they have been writing letters for you all to read. You can find the letters on the Year 7 transition area of our website here: Bluecoat Aspley Academy— Click Here Bluecoat Beechdale Academy—Click Here Bluecoat Wollaton Academy—Click Here The Nottingham Emmanuel School— Click Here Further information

We have developed this online transition in order to give some certainty and reassurance for students who are due to start at school. Due to the changing nature of government advice surrounding schools reopening it may be possible to provide these activities within the school. We will keep Year 6 parents updated by text message or email (parentmail) should the situation change. We are aware the Parents will have questions in relation to purchasing Uniform, each School will be sharing information on how to obtain this shortly. In the meantime if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to email us.
