THE FOUNDATION PRAYER Almighty God, you have made us members one of another in the mystical body of your Son: grant your grace to Paul, Bishop of this Diocese; to the Cathedral Chapter; the College of Canons; the Cathedral Council; to all members of this Foundation; and to all who work and worship here. Give them the spirit of wisdom and love, that they may live to your glory, to the furtherance of the work of the Church in this place at this Diocese, and in union one with another; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, world with end. Amen. A PRAYER FOR RECONCILIATION Heavenly Father, you have called us in the body of your Son Jesus Christ to continue his work of reconciliation and reveal you to the world: forgive us the sins which tear us apart; give us the courage to overcome our fears and to seek that unity which is your gift and your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    January 21, 2019 27 Nottingham City Schools receive award for commitment to music Nottingham City Schools were lauded for their commitment and collaboration with Nottingham’s music hub to provide their pupils with life-changing music opportunities. Nottingham Music Service (NMS), a registered charity that provides music programmes for young people in the city, introduced the ‘Music Hub Champion’ award to recognise schools that have gone the extra mile to promote inclusive music education and support their pupils to benefit from the many music making opportunities provided by NMS. These schools have extraordinary staff members that support, encourage and inspire their children to continue learning their instruments and participate in out-of- school groups and events. The awards were announced at NMS’s Christmas in the City event on Dec 12, 2018 at the Royal Concert Hall in front of an audience of 1,800+ people. Lord Mayor of Nottingham Councillor Liaqat Ali presented a certificate to representatives of the Champion schools. NMS Business, Operations & Strategy Manager Michael Aspinall says: “We wanted to publicly acknowledge those school that are going the extra mile to provide music educational opportunities for their pupils. Working together 19 Appendix: The diocese and its people 20 1. Introduction What sort of episcopal oversight, leadership and ministry do we need in the diocese of Chelmsford? Since 1984 the answer to this question was the area system. That is, a system of oversight and governance, whereby the diocese was organised into three areas, with virtually all episcopal responsibilities delegated to the Area Bishop. This in turn leaves the diocesan free for strategic oversight within the diocese and for national responsibilities. The diocese of Chelmsford is what you might call, a small province rather than a big diocese. However, for about the same amount of time there has also been a recognition that this model wasn’t working as well as it might. The sheer size of the diocese has always stretched our leadership structures and resources. In 1989 a decision was made to create a fourth episcopal area, but this was never implemented beyond creating a new archdeaconry of Harlow in 1993. The question was raised several times and particularly by Bishop John Gladwin. Stephen Cottrell was enthroned as the tenth Bishop of Chelmsford in November 2010. He was appointed with a clear brief to help the Church in Essex and East London become more intentionally missional and evangelistic in all its ministry.

    RESOURCING SUSTAINABLE CHURCH: A TIME TO CHANGE - TOGETHER Transforming lives in Greater Lincolnshire 1 Foreword from The Bishop of Lincoln Returning to Lincoln after almost two years’ absence gives me the opportunity to see and evaluate the progress that has been made to address the issues we face as a diocese. Many of the possibilities that are placed before you in this report were already under discussion in 2019. What this report, and the work that lies behind it, does is to put flesh on the bones. It gives us a diocese the opportunity to own up to and address the issues we face at this time. I am happy strongly to recommend this report. It comes with my full support and gratitude to those who have contributed so far. What it shows is that everything is possible if we trust in God and each other. Of course, this is only a first step in a process of development and change. Much as some of us, including me at times, might like to look back nostalgically to the past – the good news is that God is calling us into something new and exciting. What lies ahead will not be easy – as some hard decisions will need to be taken. But my advice is that there will never be a better opportunity to work together to uncover and build the Kingdom of God in Greater Lincolnshire.   • Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
    PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year.
