Most of the players on the roster have played tennis but have not participated on a team before. All of the starters from last year’s team have either graduated or decided not to play this year. This left Coach Sjogren with a legacy to fill with a completely new roster. William Bramlet is the sole senior on the roster for the 2017 season. The juniors include: Ike Andrews, Brian Carrera, Gerson Carrera, Ben Gleberman, Gabe Littaua, Timmy Ly, RT Whitmer, Jake Schattner, and Patrick Todd. So, to introduce the prom scene, we start with Nathan Bahen, who is a baseball player and a “Beast” when it comes to the ladies. This year, as many of us know, Bahen has had a pretty successful prom season. There were two girls showing interest in him and he had to make a decision which, for him was a very hard one it seemed. Spencer Swaim expressed what he thinks about this situation, Swaim stated. “It is very entertaining and excited to see how it plays out.” Bahen only had two weeks to make a decision on who he would take pic- tures with and spend his prom night. Now onto the love triangle. Patrick Haley entered the season on the hot seat, being turned down by a female who decided to go on a trip to Boston. Suffering through the heartache, he was asked by a woman who secretly already had a date… which was a guy. So in this situation, he would attend prom with a girl and a guy, basically third wheeling. Then, Eli Ottinger decided take the love of his life, so this opened up a woman from St. Gertrude. With this situation, now Haley had a date to prom. Cadets have a great time at the 2017 Prom. This year’s induction ceremony featured 22 Cadets who pledged to follow the four pillars of the society. The Cadets in the society are required to have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have a significant community service hours. Also, the Cadets have to be very well-rounded gentlemen who lead by example. These exemplary Cadets excelled in the four categories of: scholarship, leadership, service and character. In November 1967 Benedictine adopted its first chapter of the National Honor Society and named it after Sir Thomas More. More is known for his opus Utopia and was the Lord Chancellor of England. In 1535 King Henry VIII declared himself as the Head of Church in England. More refused to acknowl- edge him as head and kept his allegiance to Catholicism and to the true Pope at Vatican City. He was then executed in 1535 and the Catholic Church canonized him as a saint in 1935. He showed great strength in his life by staying true to his morals and ,therefore, was adopted to be the patron of the Benedictine National Honor Society chapter. Prior to the ceremony, Cadets received a letter stating that they are eligible to apply for the National Honor Society. The Ceremony began with the entrance of the 16 current members of the Society to the stage. They took to their seats Cadets being admitted into the National Honor Society. and each pillar was discussed, assisted by the lighting of a candle. Then the “tapping” began.
