Soc. 104(3-4):226-230, 1996 MYRMECOPHILY IN KEROPLATIDAE (DIPTERA: SCIAROIDEA) The Keroplatidae, a family of the Sciaroidea (fungus gnats), are a cosmopolitan group, and, although they are encountered frequently, very little has been published on their biology. Matile (1990) revised the Arachnocampinae, Macrocerinae and Keroplatini, and included information, where known, on immature stages. Keroplatid larvae spin silk webs and are either predaceous or fungal spore feeders. The most complete account of the natural history of any predaceous member of this family can be obtained from the numerous papers on the New Zealand Glow worm, Arachnocampa luminosa (Skuse), a fungus gnat with luminous larvae (see Pugsley, 1983, 1984, for a review of the literature and ecology of the species, and Matile, 1990, for morphology and a summary of biology). -

Marshall This thesis has two parts. The first part investigates the relationships between the Archiceroptera genus complex and other members of the Limosininae (Diptera: Sphaeroceridae). A focus is placed on the relationships within the larger epandrial process group, which contains Bitheca, Bromeloecia, Pterogramma, Aptilotella, and Robustagramma, along with Archiceroptera, Rudolfina and several previously unplaced species groups. Molecular and morphological data sets provide the first phylogeny of the group, and were used to support the inclusion of several unplaced species groups within Rudolfina and Archiceroptera, while one new genus is described. Pectinosina gen. nov. includes two species: P. prominens (Duda), previously placed in Rudolfina, and P. carro n. sp. The second part of the thesis deals with revisions of Archiceroptera Papp and Rudolfina Roháček. Rudolfina now includes 13 described species, nine of which are newly described here (R. bucki, R. exuberata, R. howdeni, R. megepandria, R. pauca, R. pilosa, R. newtoni, R. remiforma, and R. tumida). Abstract A new genus, Curiosimusca, and three new species (C. khooi, C. orientalis, C. maefangensis) are described from specimens collected in the Oriental Region (Malaysia, Thailand). Curiosimusca is postulated to be the sister group of Aulacigaster Macquart and for the present is the only other genus included in the family Aulacigastridae (Opomyzoidea). Morphological evidence is presented to document our preliminary hypothesis of phylogenetic relationships. Key words: Aulacigastridae, Diptera, systematics, Oriental Region Introduction While preparing a monograph on the family Aulacigastridae (Rung & Mathis in prep.), we discovered several specimens of enigmatic flies from Malaysia and Thailand. The speci- mens from Malaysia had been identified and labeled as “possibly Aulacigastridae.” Our subsequent study of these specimens has revealed them to be the closest extant relatives of Aulacigaster Macquart, which until now has been the only recently included genus in the family Aulacigastridae. -

While Agromyzidae is traditionally placed in the superfamily Opomyzoidea, its exact relationships with other acalyptrate Diptera are poorly understood (see for example Winkler et al. 2010). Two subfamilies are recognised within the leaf-mining flies: Agromyzinae and Phytomyzinae. Both are now recognised as natural groups (Dempewolf 2005, Scheffer et al. 2007). In this article a new European Neoplatyura from Finland is described. The new species, Neoplatyura noorae Salmela, sp. n. is a dark brown species with tibial bristles arranged in rows. The new species is here reported from seven localities in Finnish Lapland. Based on available data, the new species occurs in mires, especially in calcareous rich fens. Altogether, 245 species are recorded including four species of Bolitophilidae, three species of Diadocidiidae, two species of Ditomyiidae, 34 species of Keroplatidae and 202 species of Mycet- ophilidae. 230 and 188 species are recorded from Georgia and the whole of Transcaucasia for the first time, respectively. Three new species –Sciophila georgei sp. nov., Leia katae sp. nov. and Anatella metae sp. nov. – are described including detailed illustrations of the male terminalia. Photographs are provided for an additional 38 species to highlight a variability of their general facies. Combined with earlier pub- lished data, the number of fungus gnat species in Georgia is set at 246. The estimated diversity of fungus gnats in Georgia is calculated using non-parametric methods and discussed with respect to other Western Palaearctic regions. -

Taber Biology Department, Saginaw Valley State University, 7400 Bay Road, University Center, MI 48710 Abstract. A new species of Docosia Winnertz fungus gnat was discovered in western Michigan. Males and females were collected in mid-spring in a Malaise trap in a paper birch-red maple-black cherry woods adjacent to a black ash swamp and cattail marsh. Docosia walpurga Taber resembles Docosia dichroa Loew but male terminalia and female coloration indicate a specific difference instead.
