WILLIAMSBURG NORTHSIDE FALL 2021 AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM 1 Fall 2021 Program Schedule and Calendar Grade K-8th Fall Session September 12, 2021 to December 16, 2021 Williamsburg Northside After School is held at 299 North 7th Street K-8 Campus, Monday through Friday from 3:00PM - 5:30 PM. Our formal enrichment programs run from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM with an additional optional hour of Extended Care from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM of supervised play and homework time. All students will receive a healthy snack at the start of programming. As per the 2021 school calendar, there will be NO After School on the dates below. December 16th is the last physical day. Program fee will be prorated accordingly. September 16th: Yom Kippur October 11th Indigenous People’s Day November 11th Veterans Day, 18th Parent teacher conferences 24th-26th Thanksgiving Recess December 16th Last day of Afterschool Enrollment and Payment Each registration requires the selection of a day and a specific class. Registrations without a class selection are incomplete. A confirmation email with a registration profile will be sent after the payment is submitted. Payment is due online at the time of registration. Enrollments will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Late Policy After School concludes promptly at 4:30 PM at the K-8 Campus. Extended Day option goes until 5:30 PM. All students MUST be picked up on time. If a student is picked up late from After School more than 2 times, without extenuating circumstances, his/her enrollment in future After School will be in jeopardy. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Refund/Cancellation Policy Up to 14 days before the session start date, you will receive a full refund (minus the non 2 refundable registration fee of $15.00). Seven days prior to the start date you will receive a 50% refund (minus the non refundable registration fee of $15.00). 24 hours prior to the start date there is NO refund given. Fall 2021 Program Descriptions K to 8th Grade (in order by day of the week and grade) Monday Gr K-2 Arts and Crafts with Gainna King-Hyatt Students will explore art materials and learn new ways to use more familiar ones. They will begin to learn about line and color by drawing and painting; about shape by cutting or folding paper; about texture by making collages with fabric and yarn. While having fun and being creative. Monday Gr K-2 Money Matters with Spark Business Academy Earn, save, spend, donate! Let's learn about money! This innovative program provides a solid foundation on financial literacy for kids in a fun setting. Games and hands-on activities help campers internalize key concepts (like money, budgeting and saving) in an engaging and supportive environment fostering teamwork. Monday Gr 2-3 Study Buddies with Michael Nelson Get extra help with Mr Michael Nelson. Study Buddies club is a place for students to work on their homework, reading and other projects in a casual setting. Students can work collaboratively and quietly discuss their work. They'll be able to seek support from their peers and the teacher. Monday Gr 2-3 Young Scientists Club with Raoul Seroy Ever look around you and wonder what something is? How something changes? How something is made? If you've ever wondered about something, whether that something is a plant, animal, planet, star, or anything at all, the Young Scientists Club is for you! Come explore the world around you and learn how it operates, changes, and adapts! Monday Gr 2-4 Narnia Drama with Child's Play NY Step through the magical wardrobe and join a land of enchantment with talking fauns, evil queens and majestic lions. What does Turkish Delight make you do? How do you free the statues in the palace garden without being caught? What powers do you use to fight alongside Aslan? As you release Narnia from the grips of everlasting winter and the White 3 Witch, discover your unique bravery and special skills. In this class, kids use scripted text from stage plays of The Chronicles of Narnia, and devise their own material through improvisation and games. The session culminates in a magical movie of their work to share with parents. Monday Gr 3,4 and 5 Fabric Art with Tiffany Navarro Students will learn to create different types of creative objects with fabric. Students will make pillows, hanging textiles, little quilts and other projects. They will learn to create their own patterns to make a product and they will learn about different types of fabrics. Monday Gr 5-8 Video Gaming Club William Reynolds The WNS Gaming Club provides students a chance to compete in their favorite games. Students will be able to play some of the most popular games available, such as Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and Rocket League. Playing individually or in teams, they will have the chance to build vital skills needed both in and out of school, such as teamwork, strategizing, and performing under pressure, while also having a great time with friends! Rocket League- Rocket League is a vehicular soccer video game developed and published by Psyonix. Described as "soccer, but with rocket-powered cars," Rocket League involves two teams of three choosing from a variety of high-flying vehicles equipped with huge rocket boosters to score aerial goals and pull-off game-changing saves. Mario Kart 8- A cartoon style racing game with your favorite Nintendo characters. This is a kart-racing game in which players compete with characters from the Mario universe. As players race against other drivers, they can use “cartoony” power-ups (e.g., bombs, turtle shells, fire balls) to impede opponents' progress. Some attacks result in vehicles spinning out, flipping into the air; comical yelps and colorful explosions accompany the action. Super Smash Bros Ultimate- A one-on-one fighting game with all your favorite Nintendo characters. Gaming icons clash in Super Smash Bros: Ultimate. Featuring characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong, and other favorites, competitive players face off in a 1-on-1 fighting match. To achieve victory, players must use their character’s specific abilities to weaken their opponents and knock them out of the arena. ______________________________________________________________________ Tuesday Gr K-1 Inventors Workshop with Engineering for Kids We have opened up the workshop for a fun and creative approach in learning about engineering concepts! Students will invent new machines and create different engineering designs. As we go through the steps of the Engineering Design Process, students will explore different fields of engineering disciplines. This includes aerospace, chemical, civil, marine, and mechanical engineering. Students will be able to take home any projects they make during each class. Tuesday Gr K-1 Mythology Magic with Child's Play NY Strap wings to your shoes and come soar up to Mt. Olympus and beyond! Invent your own 4 language for Cerberus and Bastet, tame Medusa’s snakes and ride a Pegasus. Become a mythology expert as you act out classic stories, invent your own characters and embark on quests. Improvisation, games, dance and scripted scenes are filmed throughout the session to share with parents at the end. Tuesday Gr K-1 Let's DANCE! With WR: Arts With dance being for all, WR Arts shares the love of all movement types by introducing the basics in a combination class format. Our dedicated Teaching Artist will teach two modes of movement (Creative Ballet & Rhythmic Dance: tap without tap shoes) within the 12-week session. Each class will include age appropriate dance warm ups & combinations with time and space given for collaborative, student-led activities centered around and including dance. The first half of the session will cover one modality (i.e. Creative Ballet) with the latter half focused on the secondary movement choice (i.e. Rhythmic Dance). The session will culminate in a parent observation featuring both movement types, be it in person or virtually. Tuesday Gr K-3 Mixed Martial Arts with Acosta Martial Arts is a holistic wellness practice for people of all ages, teaching kids mental, emotional, and physical skills they’ll use for a lifetime. Each high energy class centers fun, personalized instruction for students of all ages, abilities, and experience. Kick it with us this Fall, and earn your next belt rank! Tuesday Gr K-3 Culinary Explorers with Rad Salad Lab Rad Salad Lab (formerly Allergic to Salad) is pleased to offer our CULINARY EXPLORERS curriculum. Through cooking, we'll take a voyage around the world exploring International cuisines, ingredients, and dishes from a variety of cultures-- from korma to homemade tortillas, and sweet potato gnocchi to kimchi. Designed for kindergarten through fifth grade, students will gain an understanding of culinary techniques, tools, and kitchen safety. Students will use their 5 senses to strengthen fine motor and receptive language skills, while being encouraged to be adventurous eaters. Everyone receives our Culinary Passport, fact and activity book, and more. NOTE: We are following current CDC guidelines for class. Students will be masked during the cooking process and will maintain distance guidelines while eating. Tuesday Gr K-3 Budding Entrepreneurs with Spark Business Academy If you like “Shark Tank,” this program is for you! Join other intrepid kids and learn what it takes to launch your own business. Students build self-confidence while developing business skills in strategy, marketing and finance. Students select a business idea, learn to develop a 5 business plan and make a pitch presentation on the last day. They even create a real website and design their own business cards! Tuesday Gr 4-8 The Coding Space The Coding Space is an after-school program where students learn to tackle challenges independently through learning to code.
