WHY SHOULD I WANT IT? The C43 AMG does a lovely job of straddling the gap between regular C-Class models and the C63 AMG high-performance version. It’s got all the main boxes ticked: gruff exhaust note from the quad pipes, suede sports steering wheel, sports seats and a sub-5.0- second 0-62mph acceleration through a 3.0-litre V6 engine that was recently upgraded to 390hp. WHY CAN’T I HAVE IT? The emissions are well over 200g/km, which isn’t great, even if that is allowing for the rises under the latest WLTP testing regime. It’s also pricier than the Audi S4 or BMW 340i, both of which are more efficient. ARGUMENTS TO USE ON THE FLEET MANAGER MORE FLEETY ALTERNATIVE It does a great job of being a car you could easily live with While the regular C-Class models don’t offer a similar level of driving day-to-day, compared to the harder-riding and generally enjoyment to the AMG, the fine-handling BMW 330d only adds 0.9 more hardcore C63. It’s also a lot more subtle, with the seconds to the 0-62mph time, but gets emissions down to 146g/km. uneducated unlikely to spot that they’re looking at However, in M-Sport trim it’s still over £41,000, so running costs are something crafted by the legendary AMG division. lower but it’s still far from a budget option.
