This study is initiated by measuring horizontal to vertical spectral ratio (H/V) to sites in Bengkulu City using microtremor. The inversion analysis is performed to generate shear wave velocity profile. Hundreds of sites are investigated in this study. The results show that observed H/V is consistent with the theoretical H/V. National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program code is adopted to classify the site class. The results also exhibit that Bengkulu City is dominated by Site Classes C and D. In general, this study could lead local government to consider seismic hazard mitigation for spatial plan. • 2015 Seluma Regency Disaster Risk
This profile summarises the Natural, Built, Social SELUMA REGENCY and Cultural, and Economic environments DISASTER RISK of Seluma Regency and their susceptibility REDUCTION to natural hazards. The Disaster Risk Reduction PROFILE initiatives of the local government are also described. 2015 Rice fields and palm plantations dominate the Seluma coastal plain NATURAL ENVIRONMENT Seluma Regency is located on the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, and has a land area of 2400 km2. Mountainous, forested terrain forms the western part of the district, while a broad plain exists along the 70 km of coastline adjacent the Indian Ocean. Hazards and Risks Seluma is prone to sizeable tsunami, large earthquake, annual flooding and landslides. The district is also susceptible to forest fire, drought and coastal erosion, and global warming may exacerbate these hazards. Seluma has a BNPB Disaster Risk Index score of 191 (high) and it is ranked 73rd out of 496 districts assessed (BNPB 2013). Natural Environment Vulnerability The Seluma coastline is vulnerable to erosion and aggradation and potential loss of mangroves, a key ecology for fisheries. Groundwater and land in low-lying areas are susceptible to salt water contamination from tsunami inundation. River drainage patterns may change in the event of an earthquake, affecting land-use. Forest and crop cover will change with climate extremes related to global warming. Deforestation, illegal logging and conversion of forests to plantations modifies catchments, increases and concentrates run-off and thereby increases landslide, erosion and flood potential and potentially exacerbatess the fire hazard. Table 1. Assessment of risk from hazards for Seluma (Disaster Risk Index– 2013).

Diversity of soil organic carbon and water characteristics under different vegetation types in northern Bengkulu, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 1793-1799. Organic carbon and water characteristics are important soil properties that can easily degrade following the conversion of forest to cultivation land, but their levels of degradation depend on successive vegetation types after deforestation. The research aimed to evaluate the spatial diversity of soil organic carbon (SOC) and water characteristics on sites with annual and cash crops, as well as natural vegetation types. Forty-two undisturbed and disturbed soil samples were collected at 0-10 and 10-20 cm depths from plantation areas (rubber and oil palm), rice fields, shrub land, and grassland in Mukomuko, North Bengkulu, and Central Bengkulu Regencies of Bengkulu Province, Indonesia. Vegetation types were observed, and soil water characteristics were determined using a pressure plate apparatus unit from undisturbed soil samples, while SOC and particle-size distribution were analyzed from disturbed soil samples.

Iron is a very essential mineral needed by the body to help make hemoglobin, process cell division, stimulate brain cell growth, build muscle cells, and strengthen the immune system. Iron deficiency in primary school children has a significant impact on their immune system, cognitive skills, and learning achievement. The objective of this study was to analyze serum iron levels of primary school children in malaria-endemic regions in Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province. The research design was a cross-sectional study. The research population was primary school children aged 9-11 years old in Seluma Regency Bengkulu Province collected from five sub- districts. The sample size was seventy-nine children collected by using a simple random sampling technique. The research data of this study were obtained from questionnaires (data for characteristics of parents and children), blood tests (data for hemoglobin, TIBC, saturated transferrin, and malaria), and fecal examinations (data for helminthiasis). The data were then analyzed in univariate and bivariate using SPSS.
