Deconstructing the western worldview: toward the repatriation and indigenization of wellness Item Type Thesis Authors Rahm, Jacqueline Marie Download date 23/09/2021 13:22:54 Link to Item http://hdl.handle.net/11122/4821 DECONSTRUCTING THE WESTERN WORLDVIEW: TOWARD THE REPATRIATION AND INDIGENIZATION OF WELLNESS A THESIS Presented to the Faculty of the University of Alaska Fairbanks in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY By Jacqueline Marie Rahm, B.A., M.A. Fairbanks, Alaska December 2014 Abstract As Indigenous peoples and scholars advance Native histories, cultures, and languages, there is a critical need to support these efforts by deconstructing the western worldview in a concerted effort to learn from indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing for humanity’s future wellbeing. Toward that imperative, this research brings together and examines pieces of the western story as they intersect with Indigenous peoples of the lands that now comprise the United States of America. Through indigenous frameworks and methodologies, it explores a forgotten epistemology of the pre-Socratic and Pythagorean Archaic and Classical Greek eras that is far more similar to indigenous worldviews than it is to the western paradigm today. It traces how the West left behind this timeless wisdom for the “new learning” and the European colonial settlers arrived in the old “New World” with a fragmented, materialistic, and dualistic worldview that was the antithesis to those of Indigenous peoples. An imbalanced and privileged worldview not only justified an unacknowledged genocide in world history, it is characteristic of a psycho-spiritual disease that plays out across our global society. -

The Truth About Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming... and What Astral Experience Can Do for You, Today!
Ultimate Astral Experience Book I The Truth About Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming... And What Astral Experience Can Do For You, Today! by William Ember Ultimate Astral Experience Book I - The Truth About Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming... And What Astral Experience Can Do For You, Today! Introduction Part I - Basic Questions 1. What is Astral Projection? 2. What is Lucid Dreaming? 3. What about OOBE's and NDE's? 4. What is the nature and function of Sleep and Dreams? 5. Is Astral Experience safe for everyone? Introduction This eBook is written in light of many books on these subjects, to which I have added my own insights. It is intended to give the essence of the more important and interesting considerations regarding Astral Experiences. I have chosen a progressive format to provide the relevant background information for later practical application. To my knowledge it is the most in-depth introduction to these subjects, covering of the most interesting philosophical points and questions about Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming. Its value is thus in preparing you by informing about Astral Experience, and so it is a necessary and integral part of the course. This knowledge is the basis from which your experiences will spring. Sometimes just reading about these subjects can trigger an experience, and I wish that good fortune upon you! (It will help to imagine what it would be like and wonder about the possibility of doing it.) Whether it does happen spontaneously or not (or perhaps it has and that's why you're reading this...), for consistently good results we still need to practice. -

These are related in the fact that only in consciousness do we know anything of the world. -

The Consciousness of Plants
The Consciousness of Plants wakeup-world.com /2015/05/26/the-consciousness-of-plants/wuw_paginate/disabled/ By Paul Lenda Guest Writer for Wake Up World Plant consciousness is evidenced by the process of bio-communication in plant cells, which means that plants are sentient life forms that feel, know, and are conscious. The scientific field of neurobiology has been effective in demonstrating plant consciousness. Consciousness exists in everything, but manifests itself in different ways. With the reality that all matter is energy vibrating at different frequencies, it is reasonable to say that all matter has consciousness in its unique way, since all matter comes from the same source and is comprised at its basics level of the same building blocks. This universal principle can be seen in DNA consciousness as well, and is true for any state of energy – be it a solid, liquid, gas or plasma – manifest as plant, animal, human, crystalline or higher-dimensional life forms. Plants communicate just through feeling. They are purely feeling beings, they do not even know what “thinking” is (except to the extent that they can get a taste of what “thinking” means when they connect with a human). You have to get in touch with your own feelings in the moment in order to communicate with a plant. You have to be there in the moment and be aware of what you are feeling right then when you are in contact with the plant. Not the feelings about what is going on yesterday and tomorrow, but the feelings of Now, in the present moment. -

Conscious Life in Global Cyberspace http://cejournal.org/GRD/Mapmaking.htm A General Introduction to Integral Theory and Comprehensive Mapmaking By Sean M. Saiter ( ©2005The Journal of Conscious Evolution) I don't believe that any human mind is capable of 100 percent error. So instead of asking which approach is right and which is wrong, we assume each approach is true but partial, and then try to figure out how to fit these partial truths together, how to integrate them--not how to pick one and get rid of the others. -Ken Wilber (from the foreword to The Eye of Spirit) Introduction While attempting to keep to the larger vision of integral studies as a whole I shall be proposing a rudimentary outline of an underlying assertion primarily based upon the works of Ken Wilber, Jean Gebser, Don Beck and Christopher Cowan (based on the work of Clare Graves), and Mark B. -
Baring the Windigo's Teeth: the Fearsome Figure in Native
Baring the Windigo’s Teeth: The Fearsome Figure in Native American Narratives Carol Edelman Warrior A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Docrtor of Philosophy University of Washington 2015 Reading Committee: 1 Brian M. Reed, Chair Dian Million Christopher Teuton Luana Ross Program Authorized to Offer Degree: Department of English © Copyright 2015 Carol Edelman Warrior University of Washington Abstract Baring the Windigo’s Teeth: Fearsome Figures in Native American Narratives Carol Edelman Warrior Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Professor Brian M. Reed Department of English Whereas non-Native American fictional fearsome figures tend to produce anxiety from their resistance to categorization, their unpredictable movement, and their Otherness, many contemporary Native American writers re-imagine fearsome figures and monstrous systems as modeled after, and emergent from settler-colonial transgressions against Indigenous values and relationships: these behaviors spread to tribal people/s through incorporation or assimilation into the “body” of the fearsome figure. Such violations can be represented by, and better understood, through an exploration of the behavioral traits of the Algonquian figure of the 2 Windigo, or wétiko, even when the text in question would not be classified as horror. In the Indigenous works of fiction that this dissertation explores, villainy is depicted as behavior that destroys balance, and disrupts the ability for life to reproduce itself without human mediation or technological intervention. In this dissertation, I develop and apply “Windigo Theory”: an Indigenous literary approach to reading Indigenous fiction, especially intended to aid recognition and comprehension of cultural critiques represented by the fearsome figures. -
