As we celebrate this momentous anniversary, we’ve CAC HOURS taken a look back to see how far we’ve come. SERIES In May, we launched a new invite-only forum for business and design leaders called “What’s Next?” that explores how they can unite to make great cities. The topic of the first forum was “Designing the Future City.” An incredible panel of thought leaders discussed the enormous opportunities for our city to unleash growth through new technologies, urban policies and sustainable practices. DEAR MEMBERS CONTENTS It’s our first summer at the Center and there is so much to share. AT THE CENTER This is the best time of year to get outside and see the city on foot. Our new Elevated Architecture: North Side Art tour has been a success since 08 What's new on the it launched in May. Magnificent Architecture of the Magnificent Mile, another Riverwalk new tour heading north from the CAC, is a “must-do” activity to enjoy Michigan 10 Featured programs Avenue in the summertime. Other tour highlights include several exciting bus tours that give a great overview of the city’s architecture; a new Razzle Dazzle EDUCATION tour that celebrates Year of Chicago Theatre; and some recently refreshed neighborhood tours. 12 Student voices Our flagship tour, the Chicago Architecture Foundation Center River Cruise aboard Chicago’s First Lady, was in the spotlight in May when the Riverwalk East expansion TOURS was unveiled. IN EVERY ISSUE While there’s plenty of fun waiting for you in the sun, the CAC is sure to be 16 Calendars: buzzing with activity all summer long. We’ll be keeping young Chicagoans busy June, July and August with summer camps and our themed family programming. We’re also excited to host adult programs with WTTW’s Geoffrey Baer; the principal photographer for 22 Current projects the City of Chicago; the dean of the Illinois Institute of Technology’s College of 23 Then & Now Architecture; and more. GET OUTSIDE AND ENJOY THE RIVER The Chicago Riverwalk is undergoing some major changes. New landscaping, seating, play areas and walkways are all coming to the city’s “second shoreline.” See the changes firsthand with the CAC! Explore the linear park on the Riverwalk West tour or learn about the River’s past and plans for the future during a Riverwalk Talk. See page 8 for more details about Riverwalk updates and events. The Riverwalk isn’t the only thing undergoing a major transformation this summer. Explore new developments along the river like Vista Tower and Wolf Point East on the Chicago Architecture Foundation Center River Cruise aboard Chicago’s First Lady.
