3. Write out John 10:28-30 on the lines below. God’s Promise Has Never Failed— And Never Will! Romans 9:6-13 May 3, 2015 We are okay somehow with present trials if we know that our future salvation is certain. Swing low sweet chariot coming for to carry me home This world is not my home I’m just a passin’ through Take my hand, Precious Lord, lead me home Some glad morning when my life is o’er, I’ll fly away 4. In John 10:28-30, list at least three promises that Jesus makes Give me Jesus, you can have this whole world, but give me Jesus to his own? When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there a. But, if our future salvation is in trouble because God has reneged on his promises to Israel, then maybe God will forget us too! b. c. 1. God’s promise to Abraham (Gen. 12:1-3) “It is not as though God’s word has failed.” Why not? 5. agree/disagree 2. God’s promise to His people from Abraham through Isaac “God’s faithfulness to his promises is assured since it does not “not all Israel are Israel” Salvation is by grace, not race ! depend on human beings, but on himself alone.” Not all ethnic Jews are among those who believe in Christ Not all descendants of Abraham are his ‘ children ’ (Gen. 21:12) 6. Read Romans 9:13. Is it just (right) for God to choose some “children of the flesh or “children of the promise” and reject others like the example of Jacob and Esau? This is a contrast between naturally conceived children and supernaturally conceived (God’s promise and man’s faith). How does Paul answer in Romans 9:16? Sarah was with child miraculously (Gen. 18:10 and 14) “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” (Genesis 18:14) The proof is in the baby . Isaac represented in flesh and blood God’s power to keep his promises. Isaac and Ishmael had the same father, different mother. 3. Isaac’s descendants know the same promise keeping God LifeGroup Homework Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3 and 22:17-18) Tell of a time when you kept a promise at personal cost, that is, Isaac (Genesis 26:3-4) when going back on your promise would have saved you time, Jacob (Genesis 28:14) money, personal inconvenience, or embarrassment? Jacob and Esau shared the same parents 1. Do you agree that Romans 9:6-13 is all about God’s Twin boys, same mother (Rebekah), same father (Isaac) promises? If not, suggest summary theme of your own. Equally undeserving “before birth” neither earned God’s blessing “before doing anything good or bad” Equally in need of God’s grace 2. Read Romans 4:18-25 and answer the following: “in order that God’s purpose in election might stand” In verse 18, what does it mean that Abraham “believed against God’s electing love formed His relationship to Israel all hope” (NIV) or “in hope against hope he believed” (NAS)? (Deuteronomy 4:37; 7:7; 10:15) Equally sinful “not by works” their works weren’t good anyways In verses 20-21, how does it give glory to God to believe His Esau the despiser , Jacob the deceiver promises? “but by Him who calls” (Genesis 25:23) 4. God keeps his promise either to discipline or to destroy In verses 22-23, why was Abraham’s faith in God’s promise to do the impossible “credited as righteousness?” “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” (Malachi 1:2-3) The beginning (Gen.) and end (Mal.) of God’s calling Individual calling and corporate consequences o Jacob-Israel were disciplined but lovingly preserved In verses 24-25, what impossible thing has God done to secure our salvation? o Esau-Edom were unrepentant and destroyed God will never let his chosen slip through His fingers! Nor will he let unrepentant sinners who refuse to believe escape judgment. (Genesis 12:3) .
