Presents Palmer Street Singers Palmer Street Singers is a group of entertainers which is quite active in the local community.

The Palmer Street Singers a cappella group has recently welcomed three young medical students into their ranks; the average age in this choir has immediately plummeted. All singers shared the excitement of Caroline, Sonya and Amy in their initial performance with the group; for ‘WestWords’ Welcome Evening of poetry conducted by the Outback Writers Centre on May 9 at the WPCC. A beautifully attentive audience added to the pleasure of the a'cappella singing on this occasion, as they took their listeners around the world in their music. Musical Director Di Clifford considered this to be one of the most musically and socially satisfying performances, ever. Palmer Street is now preparing another program of entertainment for 'Christmas in July'. Community organisations wishing to have a piece of this 'action' are urged to contact Di on 6882 0498, as Friday 18 July – 8pm bookings are starting to fill up. Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre www.drtcc.com.au BROADWAY, BIG BAND AND BEYOND. According to Irving Berlin There's no business like show business and as the month of June is upon us at DRTCC, never a truer tune has been written. The sixth month of the year brings to us the full dynamism of the Eisteddfod, the eclectic mix of artworks in the Fresh Arts Exhibition 2014 and among our shows one that sees the biggest line up of performers DRTCC has ever hosted. A combination of international and local artists will hit our stage in the rousing production of Broadway, Big Band and Beyond. However behind the scenes there is a tinge of sadness as the show is the final and farewell concert produced by the man who has been at the helm of the DRTCC since its inception, Manager Alan Youngson. During his five-year tenure at DRTCC, Alan has brought to the city a multitude of shows ranging from popular and classical music concerts, dance, drama, children’s theatre, opera and comedy. Each year he has taken on the task to create a program that caters to a wide audience so everyone in Dubbo and surrounds can share the magic of DRTCC. Sammy Davis Jr. once said....”Part of show business is magic. You don’t know how it happens”…. Alan Youngson has made it his business to know how to make the magic happen and although Broadway, Big Band and Beyond may not end with a fat lady singing, it will be Alan’s swan song. Don’t miss out – book early!

The line-up of Broadway, Big Band and Beyond, reads like Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace, which is quite apt given the theme of the DRTCC 2014 season – Love, Peace and War. To make for easier reading than Tolstoy’s 1400+ page epic, the show features Dubbo’s own Kellie Dickerson, Phantom of the Opera star Danielle Everett, Gabrielle Dunn, James Eddy, Allyn Smith, Laura Field, Jo Gibb, Great Western Plains 32-piece Big Band under the baton of Paul Dunn, Australia’s Got Talent 2013 Grand Finalists, Oscar and Joshua Han, Harmony Singers Inc and dancers from Rikki Slacksmith’s Stepping Out Dance Factory. That is probably as succinct as it gets with such show stopping guests. A who’s who of theatre, the calibre of entertainers who perform at DRTCC is consistently high. Dubbo-born Kellie Dickerson was musical director of the Australian premieres of Wicked, Dr Zhivago and Legally Blonde and was named the DREAM Artist of the Year in 2012. Kellie will be guest conductor and also play piano, accompanying the talented Danielle Everett. The Han brothers impressed patrons at the 2014 Season Launch last year, and with the addition of seasoned local musicians, singers and dancers, it is a bonanza of brilliance. Audiences can expect a cornucopia of music favourites including: Mack the Knife, Feeling Good, Blame it on the Boogie, They can’t take that away from me; instrumentals from the Big Band and String Ensemble such as Chariots of Fire, and hit songs from musicals, Guys and Dolls, Hello Dolly, Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray and Shout. It is a production with a lot of heart, and no doubt Alan Youngson’s love of theatre and especially DRTCC will see him leaving a piece of his heart behind in Dubbo as he returns to Brisbane and his family.
