Prince of Wales=s S. at Royal Ascot in June, is in good form in advance of the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. on July 24. The Coolmore partners runner claimed the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas, G1 Investec Oaks, and G1 Yorkshire Oaks in a three-for- three campaign in 2020. AThe plan at the moment is that we=re looking at running Love in the King George,@ trainer Aidan O=Brien said from The Curragh. AMogul (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) and Broome (Ire) (Australia {GB}) are also there, but Love is the most likely to run. Something else could run but I=m not sure just yet. Everything has gone well with her since Ascot.@ Another Coolmore partners-owned dual Classic winner, St Mark=s Basilica (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) is a possible starter in for the G1 Juddmonte International S. at York on Aug. 18 and the G1 Irish Champion S. at Leopardstown on Sept. 11. Cont. p7 Order of Australia and his winning connections| Racingfotos.com IN TDN AMERICA TODAY Enjoying a step back to seven furlongs for the first time, MANDALOUN ‘SOUND, HAPPY’ AFTER HASKELL Ballydoyle=s GI Breeders= Cup Mile hero Order of Australia (Ire) Mandaloun (Into Mischief) was reported to be ‘sound, happy’ (Australia {GB}) made all to get back on track in Sunday=s G2 after his win in the GI Haskell S.. Click or tap here to go straight Romanised Minstrel S. at The Curragh. to TDN America. Eighth on his return in Royal Ascot=s G1 Queen Anne S. June 15, the 2-1 favourite was always comfortable using his stride in front and Ryan Moore=s body language told all as he easily held off Njord (Ire) (Roderic O=Connor {Ire}) to score by 1 1/4 lengths. AHis first run this year at Ascot was just a bit of a mess, as they jumped out and they hacked. It was the first time we decided to sit him in, being his first run of the year,@ Aidan O=Brien commented. AHe has plenty of speed and he=s able to quicken. He is very straightforward. He=s made like a sprinter/miler and at halfway he really started to turn it on. He=s a horse that takes his racing well, so we were thinking of coming here and then going for the [July 28 G1] Sussex S. [at Goodwood]. He=s a horse to look forward to and can go to America later in the year and maybe races after that as well.@ Campaigned over middle distances until his visit to Keeneland, Order of Australia took a highly unusual path to the Breeders= Cup Mile having won conditions events over 10 1/2 furlongs and 12 furlongs on Dundalk=s Polytrack and this venue respectively in September. • FRANKEL – a Freak of Nature Or Man-Made Success Story?
FRANKEL – a freak of nature or man-made success story? Why was Frankel such a successful racehorse? A truly unique specimen or an extremely talented individual produced, trained and campaigned perfectly (to hide all imperfection)? And will he enjoy the same amount of success as a breeding stallion? Looking into his pedigree, there is no doubt that he is produced from the crem de la crem of thoroughbred bloodlines. By the great sire, Galileo; who himself was a brilliant racehorse as a winner of the Epsom Derby in 2001. Out of Kind by Danehill. Kind was also successful on a number of occasions over six furlongs. Frankel is line bred in the 3rd and 4th generation to Northern Dancer, a persistent winner in the USA, including of the Kentucky Derby. However, good bloodlines do not necessarily mean a good horse. There are many more ingredients needed to make a horse successful. Namely soundness, attitude, and experienced training, plus lady luck being on your side! Looking at pictures of Northern Dancer, Frankel is of a similar stamp and possesses a number of his traits. In the thoroughbred breeding world, horses are line bred (a form of controlled in-breeding) in order to enhance the wanted traits of a particular bloodline, such as speed or stamina. By adding more of the same blood, you are more likely to achieve a similar animal, so the theory goes. However, you may not achieve the wanted traits, and in fact get unwanted traits such as wind unsoundness or conformational defects. As far as we know, Frankel does not have any unsoundness issues.
