All EN Rev. Eakle P. Allen Jr., 80, of Inola died Oct. 9, 2007. Barbara Willidene Allen, 74, his wife, predeceased him, on June 28, 2007. Eakle was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Florence, Colo., to Eakle P. and Olive F. Thompson Allen. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Prior to becoming a pastor, he was a teacher and basketball coach, and he worked for Boeing Aircraft for 18 years. He was active in the Lions Club, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and Scouting. He was an amateur ham radio operator. He was a Scoutmaster at Rose Hill Methodist Church in Brahman, and he established a Scout troop at Inola. Barbara was born July 27, 1932, in Oologah, to Albert Denver and Grace Elizabeth Speck Castleberry. As a young adult, she moved to Kansas, where the couple met. Eakle Allen Jr. married Barbara W. Castleberry on Aug. 8, 1948, in Atlanta, Kan. The Allens moved to Oklahoma in 1958. Rev. Allen was ordained as an elder in 1985. He served churches in Oklahoma from 1974 to 1992, when he retired. He was pastor at Inola, Perkins, Coyle, Hollis, Waynoka, Wakita, Tyrone, Yale, and Jay. The couple moved to Inola in 1994. Barbara Allen was the district president of United Methodist Women at the time of her death. She also was a former local UMW president. Their survivors include six sons, Michael, Kenneth, Robert, Roger, Jack, and Steven; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. They were predeceased by a daughter, Venice. Service for Barbara Allen was held July 1 at Inola United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Service for Rev. Allen was held Oct. 13, also at the Inola church. RIC hard C. Bush JR. Rev. Dr. Richard C. Bush Jr., 84, of Denton, Texas, died Feb. 28, 2008. He was a retired missionary, educator, pastor, and author. “Dick” Bush was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Waco, Texas. He earned degrees at Southern Methodist University and Perkins School of Theology, then continued study at the University of Chicago. He received his doctorate in 1960. He was ordained as an elder in 1948. In 1950, the Church commissioned Bush and his wife, Mary, as missionaries serving in the Philippines. For five years, he was Protestant chaplain at the University of the Philippines. In 1955, he joined the Perkins faculty. From 1960 to ’65, he directed the Christian Study Center of Chinese Religion and Culture in Hong Kong. Dr. and Mrs. Bush served as missionaries in Taiwan, at Tunghai University, 1966-1971. Then they returned to the United States, where he served on the faculty of Oklahoma State University. A decade later, he became founding dean of Wimberly School of Religion at Oklahoma City University. Bush also was pastor at OKC-Billy Hooten UMC, a congregation of the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference (OIMC). He retired from OCU in 1989. He returned to Asia, serving with the United Methodist Board of Higher Education & Ministry, and he taught at Phillips Theological Seminary. His books include “Religion in Communist China” (1970), “Religion in China” (1977), and “The Religious World: Communities of Faith” (general editor, 1993 edition). Survivors include his wife, Mary Ethlyn Ball Bush; four children, Richard C. Bush III of Fairfax, Va., Nancy Ellen Frenkel of Denton, Susan Thompson of Norman, and Paul Eisenbach-Bush of Wester Groves, Mo.; and seven grandchildren. Service was held March 4 at Denton-First United Methodist Church. Record of Remembrance 343 DON ald R. Cal VE R T Rev. Donald Rea Calvert, 73, of Hooker died Dec. 7, 2007. At the time of his death, he was serving as the pastor at Hardesty/Union Center churches. “Bucky” was born Aug. 2, 1934, near Optima, to Preston and Naoma Wheeler Calvert. He married Marie Bray on March 24, 1987, at Optima. He graduated from Panhandle State University, Goodwell, and Northwestern University, Alva. He earned the Master of Divinity degree at Iliff University, Denver, Colo. Rev. Calvert began serving as a pastor in 1952. He was ordained as an elder in 1968. He officially retired in 1997. The Oklahoma churches he served include Marella, Capron, Gage, Altus-Highland Heights, Bixby, Tipton, Minco, Heavener, Hinton, Cherokee, and Hardesty/Union Center. Survivors include his wife, Marie, who lives at their ranch near Guymon; three daughters, Kathy Graves and Carol Christian, both of Bixby, and Christy Lee of Tom Bean, Texas; two sons, Mike Calvert of Bixby and Eddie Stearns of Creighton, Mo.; and eight grandchildren. Service was Dec. 11 at the Hardesty High School Auditorium. Charl E S R. COO L E Y Rev. Charles Raymond Cooley, 87, died Feb. 6, 2008, in Tulsa. He served churches in Oklahoma, beginning in 1944, and retired in 1985. He was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Denison, Texas. He graduated from East Central University, Ada, in 1947, and then from Perkins School of Theology. He was ordained as an elder in 1950. Rev. Cooley was pastor at Centrahoma, Roff, Durant, Caddo, Tulsa-Sheridan Avenue, Westville-Watts, Eufaula, Enid-St. Luke’s, Heavener, Hodgen, Dewey, Oklahoma City- Britton, Claremore, Okmulgee-First, Miami, Alva-First, and Blackwell. He was active in the Blackwell Chamber of Commerce, Blackwell Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and Kiwanis Club. He was predeceased by two sons, Leonard and Lewis, and two wives, Mildred and Doris. Survivors include Thelma Beatrice Reed Cooley, his wife, of San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Rachel Tarantola of Tulsa, Ramona Rosson of Bethany, and Ruth Hicks of Weatherford; sons, Mike Cooley of Houston and Ed Cooley of Orlando, Fla.; two stepchildren, John Reed of Seattle, Wash., and Lila Roberts of San Antonio; and nine grandchildren. Service was held Feb. 11 at Blackwell-First United Methodist Church. KENNET H D. KI ll ION Rev. Kenneth D. Killion, 82, of Salem, Mo., died Feb. 17, 2008. Kenneth was born April 5, 1925. He was ordained as an elder in 1956. Rev. Killion served churches in Oklahoma from 1952 until 1963. He was pastor at Fargo, Wayne, Granite, and Cheyenne churches, and he served as a chaplain at Oklahoma Methodist Home at Tahlequah. Survivors include his wife, Helen Berneice Killion, of the home; daughters Kenna Jackson of Blackwell and Leanna Tijerina of Canyon, Texas; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were private. JE ss IE L. LEON ard Rev. Jessie Lourine Leonard, 80, of Luther died Sept. 25, 2007. She was a retired local pastor. Jessie Lourine was born March 15, 1927, in Grainola to Lloyd and Fleeta Herrold Weaver. She married Freeman Leonard on Nov. 3, 1948, in Sapulpa. Her ministry began in churches of the Evangelical United Brethren denomination. Beginning in 1980, Rev. Leonard served United Methodist churches at Apache, Verden, Spencer, Spavinaw, and Bowlegs. She retired in 1989. 344 Record of Remembrance She was predeceased by two children, Kenneth and Pamela. Survivors include her husband, Freeman Leonard; a daughter, Loretta Adams of Luther; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Service was held Sept. 28 at Luther United Methodist Church. CL INT G. LIVIN gs TON Judge Clint G. Livingston, 89, of Norman died on July 1, 2007. From 1978 to 1982, he was the full-time local pastor at Duncan-Wesley United Methodist Church. He was born May 1, 1918, at Burneyville to A.B. and Ollie Jo Livingston. He married Bette Milor on Jan. 24, 1942. She died in 1981. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Law School and was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar in 1948. Beginning in Love County, he had an extensive legal career as an attorney and judge. He served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, and he was elected Speaker of the House in 1959 and 1960. He retired in 1988 in Norman, where he was a member of McFarlin United Methodist Church and the Summit Sunday School Class. He also was predeceased by a son, Gary. Survivors include a son, B. Brent Livingston of Fort Worth, Texas; a former wife, Flora; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Service was held July 5 at Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta. NOE L A. MA NN Rev. Noel Aaron Mann, 81, of Ardmore died Jan. 16, 2008. Noel was born May 10, 1926, at Tulsa to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mann. He graduated from Tulsa University and, in 1964, from Perkins School of Theology. He married Glenda Huneke in 1963 at Claremore. She died in 1997.
