Of 4 Funeral of the Former Prime Minister and Leader of the Labo Funeral of the former Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party Mr Dom Mintoff Thursday 23rd August 1515 hrs Hearse to leave Mater Dei Hospital to Xintill Str Tarxien. 1530 hrs The coffin will be placed in family Mintoff’s private residence in Xintill Str Tarxien where the family convenes. 1600 hrs The coffin of the late Mr. Dom Mintoff will be carried from his residence to the hearse. The hearse leaves towards Tarxien Parish Church, where the Mayor Mr. Paul Farrugia, the Local Council members and PL committee will pay tribute. Thereafter, the funeral proceeds to Senglea. 1630 hrs Arrival of the hearse in front of Senglea Parish Church where Mayor of Senglea Mr. Justin Camilleri, the Local Council Members, PL Senglea Committee and Band La Vincitrice will lead the funeral cortege, through Victory street next to Senglea Band Club. 1650 hrs The hearse, leaves through Victory Street to Triq ix-Xatt, towards il-Macina, proceeding to Vittoriosa Xatt ir-Risq. 1705 hrs Arrival of the hearse in front of Freedom Monument Vittoriosa where, Mary Spiteri pays tribute, by singing Tema’ 79. Page 1 of 4 1710 hrs Cortege accompanied by Vittoriosa Mayor Mr. John Boxall and the Local Council members, Vittoriosa PL Committee and St. Lawrence Band, where it proceeds to Victory Square. 1725 hrs Cortege proceeds from Victory Square to Maingate Street, accompanied by the Prince of Wales Own Band. 1740 hrs The hearse leaves from Vittoriosa to Cospicua, accompanied by Kalkara Mayor Mr. Michael Cohen, local council members, Kalkara PL committee and Kalkara band clubs i.e. Circolo San Giuseppe Filarmonika Sagra Familja and Ghaqda Muzikali San Guzepp. 1755 hrs Arrival of the hearse in front of PL Club in Cospicua. The Archpriest Rev. Joe Mifsud, Cospicua Mayor Mr. Joe Scerri, local council members, Cospicua PL committee, and St. George’s Band, lead the funeral cortege towards Cospicua Parish Church. 1805 hrs White doves signifying peace will be released in front of St. George’s Band Club. The coffin rests for a short pause in front of St. George’s Band Club, where the late Mr. Mintoff served as President of the same band club for more than fifty years. 1815 hrs The Archpriest Rev. Joe Mifsud will lead the funeral congregation to the Immaculate Conception Collegiate Church Cospicua, accompanied by the Collegiate Church Chapter and Clergy, Parish Priest Gordon Refalo and Fr. Mark Montebello. 1830 hrs The coffin will be carried on shoulders from the Collegiate Church to the hearse, and leaves Cospicua to Marsa. Page 2 of 4 1845 hrs Arrival of the hearse in Balbi Street Marsa, where the Mayor Mr. Chris Spiteri, Local Counsil Members, Marsa PL committee, and Mass Band consisting of representatives of Ghaqda Muzikali Marija Regina and Banda Trinita Qaddisa. It then proceeds towards Marsa Holy Trinity Church, and thereafter the hearse leaves to Blata l-Bajda Hamrun. 1905 hrs Arrival of the hearse in St. Joseph High Street Hamrun in front of ex-Radio City entrance where, Hamrun Mayor Mr. Vince Bonello, local council members, Hamrun PL committee, representatives of Ghaqda tal-Muzika San Gejtanu Band Club and Ghaqda Muzikali San Guzepp Band Club, will pay tribute. 1910 hrs The funeral cortege accompanied by Banda tal-Partit Laburista proceeds to Schembri Street and Milend Street, to Labour Party Head Quarters. 1920 hrs Arrival of the hearse in front of the Labour Party Headquarters. The coffin will be lifted and carried on shoulders, where the Labour Party Leadership, Administration, National Executive Council, Parliamentary Group and Local Committees will pay tribute. 1925 hrs Soprano Claire Caruana to pay tribute by singing Aria from Rock Opera Gensna. 1930 hrs Hearse proceeds to Valletta Palace. Page 3 of 4 1945 hrs Arrival of the Hearse at City Gate Valletta, where Valletta Mayor Dr. Alexei Dingli, local council members, Valletta PL committee, and Socjeta` Filarmonica Nazzionale La Vallette Band, and King’s Own Ban will accompany the funeral cortege through Republic Street to the Presidential Palace. 2030 hrs The cortege arrives in front of the Presidential Palace where the coffin will be laid in the main entrance. Structural Business Statistics: 2019 Cut-off date: In 2019, the non-financial business economy in Malta incorporating Industry, Construction, Wholesale and retail 30 June 2021 trade and Services activities generated €3,882.1 million in GOS (or profits) and paid out €3,328.1 million in Personnel costs to its employees. SMEs registered an increase in these two variables of 13.0 and 10.3 per cent respectively, when compared to 2018. Large enterprises earned €1,218.3 million in GOS and when compared to the other three size categories of SMEs independently, they contributed to the highest values of Turnover, Production and Personnel costs. The largest share (31.4 per cent) of Persons employed in Malta were employed with micro enterprises (Table 2). Chart 1.     1 PRIESTS AND POLITICIANS: ARCHBISHOP MICHAEL GONZI, DOM MINTOFF, AND THE END OF EMPIRE IN MALTA SIMON C. SMITH University of Hull The political contest in Malta at the end of empire involved not merely the British colonial authorities and emerging nationalists, but also the powerful Catholic Church. Under Archbishop Gonzi’s leadership, the Church took an overtly political stance over the leading issues of the day including integration with the United Kingdom, the declaration of an emergency in 1958, and Malta’s progress towards independence. Invariably, Gonzi and the Church found themselves at loggerheads with the Dom Mintoff and his Malta Labour Party. Despite his uncompromising image, Gonzi in fact demonstrated a flexible turn of mind, not least on the central issue of Maltese independence. Rather than seeking to stand in the way of Malta’s move towards constitutional separation from Britain, the Archbishop set about co-operating with the Nationalist Party of Giorgio Borg Olivier in the interests of securing the position of the Church within an independent Malta. For their part, the British came to accept by the early 1960s the desirability of Maltese self-determination and did not try to use the Church to impede progress towards independence. In the short-term, Gonzi succeeded in protecting the Church during the period of decolonization, but in the longer-term the papacy’s softening of its line on socialism, coupled with the return to power of Mintoff in 1971, saw a sharp decline in the fortunes of the Church and Archbishop Gonzi. Although less overt than the Orthodox Church in Cyprus, the power and influence of the Catholic Church in Malta was an inescapable factor in Maltese life at the end of empire.

Abstract This question is discussed in the light of new approaches to prehistoric studies and making use of the latest available data. A clear-cut separation between the two periods had been proposed by Themistocles Zammit as soon as he investigated the site of the Tarxien Temples in 1915-17. There he identified a sterile layer which, in his view, clearly separated the stratum representing the Temple Culture (<<Neolithic») from the following one. that representing the re-use of the same megalithic structures as a cremation cemetery by a Bronze Age people carrying a totally different culture. The latter were technologically more advanced - they carried bronze tools and weapons - but artistically less endowed than their predecessors. The possibility of some sort of continuity. despite the apparent complete break in material culture and in the religious ideology, has been suspected and expressed on several occasions by John Evans since the 1950s. The evidence of the possibility of such continuity comes from imported objects which seem to overlap the two strata, as well as from direct contacts with overlapping contemporary cultures in Sicily. New data from current excavations on the island of Gozo, which still need to be properly processed, are taken into consideration. Weighing all the evidence one does not fmd as yet sufficient reason to change the conclusion reached by Zammit in 1930, namely, that the Temple people were in fact replaced by a new people around 2000 B.c.

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY TO MALTA PROPERTY REPORT. Appendix I indicates that affordable residential property in the Maltese Islands with a capital growth rate of 7.1%pa over the past 20 year period has doubled in price every 10years, with plots doubling in value every 5 years over the same period. Table 6 shows that the housing affordability index HAI has improved from 74 in 1992 up to 77 in 2002, after having dipped to 65 in 1997 for a 3-bed/r affordable apartment. The same may be said for a 2-bed/r apartment with an HAI of 111 increasing to 116 over the period 1992 to 2002, after having dipped to 92 in 1997. Measures taken over the immediate 5-year period appear to have stabilized the growth of the affordable property market. However, looking into the growth rate for the period 2001-2002 standing at 5.4%, whilst for 2002-2003 presently standing at 12.3%, this may indicate that the property market is again to be subjected to a price hike unless measures taken, outlined in this report are taken with immediate effect. Table 1 of Appendix II dealing in commercial property indicates that warehousing rental values stand at 66.66% of the European average, office rentals at 27% of the European average, with retail outlets rentals standing at 8 ¼% of the European average. The low rental value of Maltese retail outlets as compared is understandable due to the limited turnover of outlets is understandable, as also is the comparable warehouse rentals being at 2/3’s of the European average should be of no cause for concern.
