Text Through Steven Peters Caraballo’s works, classic themes such as the portrait, the still life and the vanitas are again given a chance to distinguish themselves through the magnificence of their simplicity. The act, once again, as contemporary symbols for a lost gaze, an attempt at looking at the surround realist that is affected by an agonising transience and a disoriented attention in the way it is observed.

Caraballo’s painted authenticity refers to the fundamental force that is contained in the complexity and beauty of tradition and the too-often almost ineffable merits of the painterly craft.

Confronted with his seemingly enticing paintings, a haunting alienation simultaneously permeates our current conditioned habit of unfocused looking. A quiet, different kind of emotional overpowering that can be found only in its materialized form in pertinent painting.
