UK MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENTS AND PROPOSALS 7 August 2008 CURRENT SCHEMES Cabot Circus, Bristol The Cabot Circus mixed-use development opens on 25 September 2008. The retail element will be anchored by Size: 92,000m² House of Fraser and Harvey Nichols department stores and Completion: September 2008 will provide approximately 150 retail units, including 15 Developers: Hammerson 50% flagship stores, cafés, bars and restaurants. The scheme Land Securities 50% includes 250 residential units with 24 affordable units, a Anchor stores: House of Fraser, Harvey Nichols 6,800 m² cinema, 150 bed hotel, 280 units of student Architects: Chapman Taylor, Stanton Williams, accommodation, two new public squares, three Alex French pedestrianised shopping streets, and 2,600 parking spaces. Highcross, Leicester Hammerson, and its joint venture partner, Hermes, are developing a mixed-use extension to The Shires, to be Size: 61,000m² extension renamed Highcross, Leicester’s principal city centre shopping Completion: September 2008 destination. The scheme will more than double the size of the Developers: Hammerson 60% existing shopping centre to over 100,000m². In addition to Hermes 40% John Lewis, which will anchor the scheme, the development Anchor store: John Lewis will create 30,000m² of retail accommodation including five Architects: Chapman Taylor, Foreign Office additional stores, 40 retail units, a 7,000m² cinema, 6,000m² of cafés and restaurants, 143 residential units, a 2,000 space car park and two new public squares. The extension opens on 4 September 2008. Union Square, Aberdeen Hammerson is currently developing a nine-hectare site adjacent to Aberdeen’s central railway station, to provide a Size: 49,000m² combination of traditional mall shopping and retail park.
