These fruity extracts, glycerin, Red 40s and outside agents provide you -- for a fleeting moment -- the taste of something that isn't actually there. Still, you can feel it melting on your tongue. It tastes real. A significant subsection of our contemporary pop music sphere is fittingly known affectionately as "bubblegum," mimicking the illusion of artificial taste made into a distinct, gummy sound. Candy is a staple in pop music, from The Strangeloves' 1965 hit "I Want Candy" to the unforgettable chorus "I'm craving for you / I'm missing you like candy" of Mandy Moore's 1999 smash hit "Candy." Glistening hooks and earworm choruses about the perils of love are infectious, even toxic.

ASIASANAT: graafinen suunnittelu, hardcore-musiikki, indie, musiikki, punk-musiikki, ulkoasu, underground, vinyyli BACHELOR´S THESIS | ABSTRACT TURKU UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES Degree programme of design | Product design 2013 | 51 Maarit Mikkonen Pirkka Nikulainen GRAPHICS FOR AN UPCOMING COMPILATION ALBUM – TAKE ME BACK – A HARDCORE COMPILATION The aim of this thesis was to design a graphic appearance to an upcoming compilation album. The goal was to create graphics faithful to the hardcore genre and design merchandise to back it up. As the commissioner, it was a part of the project to choose a name and select the bands for the record that represented the genre in 2013. Releases from the 80's and the 90's that had an impact on the scene, were studied using picture analysis as the study method.
