We also include an introductory discussion on a key notion from quantum information: the quantum bit or “qubit”. Readers with a background that includes a good course in real or complex analysis can move swiftly through this chapter, whereas those coming to the text from di↵erent fields should carefully work through the material. This is accomplished at a most basic level through metrics. Definition 1.1.
