t is my pleasure to present this report on the 2017 activities of the Bryce Harlow Foundation. For thirty-six years, the Foundation has promoted integrity in the Iprofessions of lobbying and government relations. The heart of our work is education and, thanks to your generous support, the Foundation made notable strides.

Highlights include:

l Offering fellowships to 23 talented graduate students working in lobbying, communications and other forms of government advocacy; l Delivering top tier speakers at dozens of seminars and workshops in the Washington, D.C., area. Through these presentations, the Foundation educates a wide range of audiences about the value of government relations. l Setting yet another new fund-raising record at our annual dinner, which honored Senator Lamar Alexander and former Congressman Dave McCurdy. l Continuing to execute on new initiatives under the leadership of Barbara Faculjak, the foundation President, including our new quarterly newsletter, a “Meet the Fellows” reception, an alumni advisory board and other programs designed to more fully engage board members, sponsors, and fellowship alumni.

The Bryce Harlow Foundation has supported the education and professional growth of more than 320 young professionals with financial assistance for graduate school tuition, valuable mentorships with board members, and seminars on issues confronting the profession. Bryce Harlow Fellows have gone on to distinguish themselves as respected government advocates, trade association leaders, corporate executives, legislative aides and executive branch officials.

All of this was made possible by your generous support. Your contributions helped fulfill the goal of Bryce Harlow: the creation of sound public policy through the ethical practice of lobbying.

Thank you for your partnership!

Sincerely,

Craig Purser Chairman

We were pleased to honor both Senator Alexander and Mr. McCurdy this year for their proven dedication to advocacy and business-government relations. In the words of former Bryce Harlow Fellow Katelynn Eckert, “The dinner was an incredible experience. While I hope to make it back with a table of my own some day, I don’t think anything will compare to attending as a fellow. The awards dinner really drove home to me what an important legacy the foundation is carrying forward.”

ach year the Bryce Harlow Fellows are paired with mentors to help them throughout their fellowship. “The mentorship is a powerful and impactful part of the fellowship eprogram,” Board Chairman Craig Purser said. “Fellows select their own mentors, usually from among our past and present board members. They benefit from the personal guidance, practical advice, and networking to help them manage their careers.” Most fellows cite the mentorship program as one of the highest value components of the fellowship. “My mentors were outstanding—available, experienced, and insightful,” two-time Fellow Christian Ficara said. “I benefitted so much from their wise counsel about my career, and know I would not have had these opportunities without the Bryce Harlow Fellowship.”
