SNOWBOARD – AMERICA’S NAVY

America’s Navy Big Air – 10 Riders For Aspen 2014, the Big Air course is approximately 300 feet and made up of a single 80-foot step up jump. The competition features 10 snowboarders who each attempt a single trick off the feature in a jam session format. In Round One, athletes are placed into two heats of five riders and have 15 minutes to complete as many runs as possible. Athletes will be scored immediately after each run. The top three athletes from each heat in Round One advance to the Final. In the Final, the jam session is extended to 18 minutes with the two best scores per rider counting toward their final ranking.

America’s Navy Big Air is judged on aggressive execution of maneuvers, degree of difficulty, variety of tricks, originality and style.

SNOWBOARD – SLOPESTYLE

Slopestyle – 16 Men, 8 Women The Slopestyle course is approximately 1,700 feet long with seven features and a vertical drop of 290 feet. Snowboarders will attempt multiple tricks throughout their run on specially designed jumps, rails, boxes and other obstacles. The Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle contest consists of two rounds. In the Elimination round, each of the 16 competitors will take two runs down the course with the best run counting. The top eight advance to the Final. The Final round is a best-of-three run format. The eight women will compete in a Final-only competition, following the same format as the men’s Final.

Snowboard Slopestyle is judged on creativity, trick completion and style.

SPORT DESCRIPTION SNOWBOARD - SNOWBOARDER X

Snowboarder X – 28 Men, 16 Women The X Course is approximately 2,900 feet long with an average slope of 15 percent and vertical drop of 475 feet. The X Course includes step ups, step downs, a roller section, banked turns, berms, flat and steep sections and ends with a 55-foot jump. Athletes start simultaneously from a starting gate positioned on an incline and race side-by-side to the finish line.

In the Men’s competition, the top 18 snowboarders from the Qualifying Run automatically advance to the Quarterfinal. A second Qualifying Run with the remaining 10 snowboarders determines who will advance to the final six spots in the Quarterfinal brackets. In each of the four Quarterfinal heats, the top three racers advance to the Semifinal. In the Semifinal, the top three racers from each heat advance to the final and the bottom three go to the Consolation Round. In the Final, the first racer in the single six-person heat to cross the finish line takes gold.

The scoring is the same for the women. The 16 women take one Qualifying Run, with the top eight advancing to the Semifinal. A second Qualifying Round with the remaining eight snowboarders determines who will advance to the final four spots in the Semifinal brackets. The top three from each Semifinal heat advance to the final and the bottom three move to the Consolation Round. In the Final, the first racer in the single six-person heat to cross the finish line takes gold.

SuperPipe – 16 Men, 8 Women The Snowboard SuperPipe event at the X Games represents the progression of the sport and showcases the best pipe riders in the world. The SuperPipe course consists of a large halfpipe structure with vertical walls. The course is approximately 567 feet long and 66 feet wide, with 22- foot walls. Men’s Snowboard SuperPipe is divided into two rounds. In the Elimination round, each snowboarder will take two runs and will be ranked based on their best score. The top eight athletes advance to the Final. In the Final, each snowboarder takes three runs and the rider with the single best score wins. Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe features eight athletes and follows the same format as the Men’s Final.

Snowboard SuperPipe is judged on amplitude, execution, difficulty, landings and use of the course.
