It is with great pleasure to welcome you all to the 7th EFDN Conference.

Firstly, I would like to show our appreciation and thanks to Glasgow Rangers Football Club who will be our conference Hosts over the next two days and the support you have provided to our EFDN team leading up to conference has been warm and extremely helpful in coordinating this conference.

As a network, one our biggest challenges for the conference is being able to stimulate and provide a platform to learn and share good practice for our Network Members and guests over the two days, after reviewing this years programme I am extremely delighted that EFDN will achieve this goal!

Today we have the honour of welcoming the Minister for Public Health and Sport, Aileen Campbell MSP to commence proceedings and over the next couple of days we are extremely delighted to welcome representatives of UEFA, ECA, Supporters Direct and European Healthy Stadia Network as well our very own EFDN network members, we are excited in welcoming new clubs to conference such as Juventus, AC and Legia Warsawa to just name a few.

As chair of EFDN it has been humbling to see a number of new EFDN programmes launch such as, One Goal for Education, European Legends and the EPMIMT project. I have seen at hand the impact of our EFDN Exchange programmes being delivered across Europe 6th EFDN Conference bringing our young people together and staff which have involved 16 EFDN Network Member clubs over 7 Countries. PHILIPS STADIUM, MARCH 2016 It is evident from the activity being carried out is testament to the efforts of the EFDN operational team which is shaped and guided by our members, so I thank you all for all your positive feedback during our evaluations of our programming and organisational processes.

Finally, I look forward to seeing you over the next couple of days and EFDN wish you a safe journey home after the conference.

Aileen Campbell MSP Caj Sohal Minister for Public Health and Sport

Our second host for this conference is Pat Nevin. Pat enjoyed a 20-year career in football playing for Clyde, Chelsea, Everton, Tranmere Rovers, Kilmarnock and Motherwell as a winger. He also won 28 caps for Scotland, scattered across a ten-year international career.

Since retiring as a player, Pat has worked as a chief executive of Motherwell and as a football writer and broadcaster. Pat is still a fans’ favourite at Chelsea where he played in the 1980s and appears regularly on Chelsea TV, the BBC and other broadcasters.

1 The Stadium as a classroom Danny Evertse NAC BREDA

Danny Evertse is the Nacademy Manager, with has 38 years of experience as a teacher and project management within the Dutch education system specialising in the secondary education system. He is key founder of the community department of NAC Breda in 2005.

Over this period of time Danny has been involved in multiple football based education and employability projects including No One Outside the Game, Lunch Room de BEA, NOAD in the Class, Playing for Success and working to develop the NAC Breda Intern Programme. EFDN Network Dating NAC Breda’s Playing for Success programme for hard to reach students that are 16-23 years old. They are students who are not performing to their potential due to not being motivated in their current environment or have a low self-esteem.

Playing for Success is delivered in the NACADEMY; one of the most innovative and Following feedback from network members EFDN is introducing this icebreaker inspiring study support centres in Europe. The centre has 4 different ‘classrooms’, activity to provide delegates the opportunity to meet and introduce each other a sound and video editing studio and a games room situated in over 660m2. through a fun and relaxed activity during the conference. The programme is intended to inspire and motivate students. Every week 5 groups with a total of 50 students attend the 8-week programme. Our hosts will explain the process prior to start however the key objectives of the session are simple, for delegates to meet each other over a small period of time, share business contact information and to understand what each others responsibilities are before you move on to meet someone new!

An-Gaëlle Benedic An-Gaëlle Benedic is the Development manager of Paris Saint-Germain Foundation. She is in charge of developing new projects and raising awareness about the Foundation’s commitment.

Paris Saint-Germain Foundation has for the last 16 years been running initiatives to provide support for children and young people. To date, more than 180,000 children have participated in its educational and sporting programmes. The Foundation’s main goals are : integrating young people socially and professionally, helping children from disadvantaged neighbourhoods, and bringing comfort to sick children.

1 Recovery with Rangers

In partnership with NHS Health Improvement, the Rangers Charity Foundation delivers a football coaching and health behaviour change programme for people recovering from addiction. This programme is free to men and women in recovery who are members of Glasgow South Sector funded recovery groups. The sessions take place at the Stadium and Study Support Centre. The programme consists of Fitness Testing, Football Coaching and workshops on Smoking Cessation, Self Esteem, Healthy Eating, Stress Awareness as well as presentations from education, training and employability providers. Participants completing the programme will be awarded the SFA Level 1.1 ‘Development Activities’ (Youth & Adult) Coaching qualification; the first step on the sports context. It has been designed to support Level 2 Curriculum for Excellence Literacy coach education pathway. and English and Technology experiences and outcomes in innovative and exciting ways. The 6 week course focuses on the following themes: the nature of journalism; newspaper article reporting; writing and producing a match report; experiencing match commentating; researching and interviewing a player/former player. In the spirit of interdisciplinary 2 Get Started with Rangers learning, this is a course that should complement work within the classroom and reflects the need for learners to be able to communicate effectively both face-to-face and in writing through an increasing range of media. In partnership with The Princes Trust, the engagement programme will target young people aged 16-25 years who like football but are currently out of work. Nicky Reid Nicky Reid has worked in professional football for almost 10 years. Her experience includes sales and marketing at a club level plus club community programme delivery across a range of delivery areas including lone parents, disengaged youths and ex-offenders. She was also instrumental on the creation of Falkirk Football Community Foundation, one of the earliest charities set up at a professional Scottish club. Their employability programmes were award winning and Nicky trained Chelsea FC, Everton FC, Sunderland FC and Portsmouth FC before they embarked on their into Work programmes. In 2013 she joined the SPFL Trust and took over as General Manager in the spring of 2015.

EFDN NEW PROJECTS HUBERT ROVERS EUROPEAN FOOTBALL FOR DEVELoPMENT NETWORK

As part of the planning and preparation of EFDN delivery strategies and through a desire to continue to provide services which are member focussed, this workshop aims to bring members together to provide feedback on existing programmes but more importantly to discuss a way forward by mind mapping new innovative ideas and programmes which can be developed for future EFDN activity.

To start the proceedings we have invited Jake Naish to showcase an innovate project idea from Fulham FC called FanActive. 2 The Benefits of EFDN

European Football for Development Network (EFDN) has grown to a network of 31 clubs from 16 European countries. The EFDN is open for all professional football clubs that want to become more community engaged. This breakout session has been individually designed for non-network members and guests to the conference.

This workshop is aimed at providing further information on the EFDN network and to facilitate a Q&A session for the EFDN guests to understand more about objectives of the network.

The workshop will present the benefits of the network and provide case studies for the workshop, your host for the workshop will be Hubert Rovers CEO.

Hubert will be inviting Network Members to join in these discussions in order for guests to interact with our Network Members.
