SRL Seminary - Seminario Reformado Latinoamericano Equipping Nationals to Proclaim the Gospel of Grace SRL Seminary - Seminario Reformado Latinoamericano Equipping Nationals to Proclaim the Gospel of Grace June 3, 2021 EIGHTEEN DISTINGUISHED THEOLOGIANS GATHER TO FAN THE NEW REFORMATION FIRE For logistical reasons, we changed the dates for the SRL Annual Latin American Reformed Theological Convention. It will take place from September 13 to 18, 2021. The theme is The Person and Ministry of The Holy Spirit. We are grateful to God for sending us some of the most powerful reformers of this century. Kindly see the line-up on the back of this page. This convention will be broadcasted entirely in English or in Spanish without simultaneous translation. The hunger for the Reformed doctrines in Latin America is so great that thousands are willing to watch and listen to three speakers per night, for 35 minutes each. They are already calling it “The Most Significant Super Event of the Latin American Reformation.” WHY SO FEW REFORMED SPANISH SPEAKING CHURCHES IN THE UNITED STATES? The Answer: Because most Spanish pastors do not have access to theological education in current Reformed seminaries. It is exceedingly difficult to compete when one is not fluent in English. Thus, SRL began a campaign to provide education in Spanish in several larger cities within the United States. Students may attend courses in person or through Zoom where they can interact with their professors and other students. They can also take courses in Spanish or English online with opportunities for direct communication with professors and assistant professors. How can you help? By sharing this information with Spanish speaking churches, with Hispanics in your congregation, or with friends who may want to study at SRL. They can communicate in Spanish or English with Mrs. Ana Davis, Admissions Representative, at 321-262-5049 or [email protected], or by web at www.srlusa.org. A copy of the letter that we are mailing to the Spanish churches can be found online at this link: bit.ly/cartaespanol2021. DR. JOE FITZPATRICK, AFTER TEACHING IN SRL CHILE, WROTE: “Every time I think about my time together with seminarians, I smile. I may teach the same core content of a course several times; but what makes or breaks the course is the feedback, communication, dialogue, etc. The level of participation was wonderful. I met some very humble and hungry students. Sometimes it seems that 20% of the students do 80% of the talking. Not this time, however. It seemed most of the students actively participated via sharing their questions, concerns, comments, excitement, etc. I still think about this group and continue to pray for them. I have been very impressed with what I have experienced with/through SRL that I would like to dedicate the majority of my time to teaching in many SRL centers.” Pray earnestly for the expansion of the Kingdom and please support SRL as it labors to fulfill this mission. Sincerely in Christ, Dr. Del Belcher, SRL Executive Administrator PO Box 741034, Orange City, FL 32774 | Tel: 386-275-3560 | E-mail: [email protected] | Web: srlseminary.org SRL ANNUAL REFORMED THEOLOGICAL CONVENTION – SEPTEMBER 13 TO 18, 2021 Dr. Thomas Ascol: Ministry and the Holy Dr. David Barceló: Filling of the Holy Spirit. A Pastoral Note About My Doctoral Project I am glad you are interested in reading my dissertation. Given that it took a fair amount of effort and my passion for the subject matter, I am happy to share it with church members and friends. Please allow me to introduce you to the project by saying just a few things. If you ask someone what Covenant Theology is and if it is a good or bad thing, you will likely hear lots of different answers. It is fairly common for evangelicals to respond by either saying they do not know what Covenant Theology is or by describing it as something unbiblical and relating to a particular view regarding millennialism, baptism, or Israel. There are three major problems with such responses. First, classic Covenant Theology is essentially concerned with matters of sin and salvation, not something else. Second, the biblical support for such things as the federal headship of Adam and Jesus is strong (federal being from the Latin foedus meaning covenant). Third, when Covenant Theology is rejected, justification by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone is at best in serious jeopardy. My dissertation is a promotion and defense of classic Covenant Theology. I have written out of a pastoral passion to help people understand human history federally/covenantally just as the Apostle Paul did as he wrote inspired Scripture (see Romans 5:12-21). Likewise, I have written in order to demonstrate the vital connection between Covenant Theology and justification by faith alone, the doctrine that is so commonly compromised by rejecters of the federal perspective.

The Origins of the OPC The OPC traces its origins ultimately back through the Reformation to the apostolic church, but most immediately it emerged out of the controversies that engulfed the mainline denomination in the North, the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. (PCUSA), in the 1930s. The controversies actually had been brewing for many years by then, triggered by the growing prominence of theological liberalism in the early decades of the twentieth century. One dramatic event—of decisive importance for WSC’s history—was the General Assembly’s decision in 1929 to reorganize the board of Princeton Seminary, which for more than a century had been a stalwart proponent of historic Reformed Christianity. The reorganization put control of Princeton Seminary The Reformed community in North America will be celebrating the 75th in the hands of liberals (or at least anniversary of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) in 2011. • By Augusto Del Noce ______By Carl Trueman
what is man? Ordained Servant November 2017 Ordained Servant Online A Journal for Church Officers E-ISSN 1931-7115 CURRENT ISSUE: WHAT IS MAN? November 2017 From the Editor The doctrine of man is central to the modern debate about sexual identity. The rejection of transcendent reality by the modern mind sets people free to seek to redefine the human. In my editorial essay, “Diminishing Humanity: How the Modern World Is Dehumanizing Us,” I explore the theme of dehumanization in modernity. Carl Trueman reviews the work of a relatively unknown twentieth-century Italian political and cultural philosopher in his review of Augusto Del Noce, The Crisis of Modernity. His exploration of the disenchantment of modern life in terms of an assumed materialism is profound. The human quest for rest without God leads to the exhaustion of hope. God has designed it that way, so that we may not find rest outside of resting in him. The Sabbath trajectory of human life is meant to drive us to our Creator, in whom true rest may only be found. I explore this theme in George Herbert’s poem “The Pulley.” John Muether continues the celebration of Reformation 500 as he explores the confessional development of the Reformation with “Reformed Confessions: Canons of the Synod of Dort (1619).” This demonstrates the doctrinal consistency of biblically based ecclesiastical symbols forged in the ecumenical spirit of a truly ecumenical endeavor. In another area of historical exploration, Danny Olinger gives us chapter 10 of his Vos biography, “Geerhardus Vos: Grace and Glory,” in which he explores the sermonic production of Vos.
