The 2013 cricket season at Ipplepen Cricket Club will see the launch of a new senior ‘3 rd XI’ playing in the Devon Cricket League, as well as the creation of several new junior teams including for the first time ever an all-girls team playing in the Under 13s division of the South Devon Youth Cricket League. It is probable that our junior membership will be over 100 players for the coming year. More teams mean more coaches and team managers, and over the past two winters Ipplepen CC have funded the development of 5 extra Level 1 and Level 2 coaches including 2 ladies and 2 coaches aged Under 18. We have also continued to forge closer links within the local community, with Ipplepen CC coaches helping to promote cricket in Ipplepen, Denbury and Broadhempston Primary Schools over the past 12 months. As with many sports, village clubs find fund-raising a never-ending struggle. At Ipplepen Cricket Club, we have managed to improve our facilities over the last 15 years, but there is always something else that needs money spent on it. The list below gives you an idea of our expenditure plans for the coming season: • New ‘gang mowers’ for cutting the outfield £3,000 • Replacement netting for practice nets £1,000 • Replacement tops for wicket covers damaged in gales £1,100 • Updating coaching equipment for junior training £1,000 • Playing kits for junior teams x 2 £500 • Provision of ground equipment for 3 rd XI £500 • Purchase of match balls for senior and junior teams £1500 To help fund these and other requirements, we are asking whether you or your business would please become a club sponsor for the 2013 season. You could receive recognition in many ways, including – website link, local press, match day hospitality and/or a sponsors board (8 foot by 3 foot) in the main entrance to the ground. Bearing in mind we have 4 senior teams, 7 junior teams and approximately 150 playing members attending practice and matches at the ground each week the exposure to your business would be significant. If you are able to help the club financially, either through specific involvement with one of the projects listed above or simply as a general sponsor we would be delighted to receive your support. BSS/21/01 Farms Estate Committee 22 February 2021 The County Farms Estate Management and Restructuring Report of the Head of Digital Transformation and Business Support Please note that the following recommendations are subject to consideration and determination by the Committee before taking effect. Recommendation(s): That the Committee approves the recommendations as set out in the opening paragraph of sections 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of this report. 1.0 Part Higher Henland Farm, Kentisbeare 1.1 It is recommended that Part Higher Henland Farm Kentisbeare, amounting to 9.89 hectares (24.45 acres) or thereabouts of bare land be again let to the tenant of Higher Henland Farm, Kentisbeare on a Farm Business Tenancy agreement commencing 25 March 2022 and terminating 25 March 2024, subject to terms being agreed. 1.2 The Kentisbeare Estate comprises: - Higher Henland Farm – 41.91 hectares (103.58 acres) - Lower Henland Farm – 73.31 hectares (181.07 acres) - Total – 115.22 hectares (284.65 acres) 1.3 Higher Henland Farm is let to the tenant in two separate agreements. The tenancy of the main holding is a 1986 Agricultural Holdings Act ‘retirement’ tenancy. With the legislative amendments made by the Agriculture Act 2020, the earliest date on which the landlord could take back possession of the holding under the Agricultural Holdings Act 1986 Case A provisions is now 25 March 2024. The tenant occupies the remaining 24.45 acres of bare land under a Farm Business Tenancy which commenced on 25 March 2003 and expires 25 March 2022. 1.4 Granting the tenant of Higher Henland Farm a new Farm Business Tenancy of the 24.45 acres of bare land for a further term of 2 years will afford the potential for both agreements to co-terminate.

  • Well Here We Go Again and Another Season of Football with What We Now Call the EXETER & DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE Sponsored by Red Post Media Solutions
EXETER & DISTRICT YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE 1 EXETER & DISTRICT YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE Well here we go again and another season of Football with what we now call THE EXETER & DISTRICT YOUTH LEAGUE sponsored by Red Post Media Solutions. Towards the end of the 2007/08 season we were approached by what seemed to be an overwhelming majority of our Under-12 clubs who asked if we would provide football for them the following year at under-13 and as a result of the ‘demand’, we agreed. Much has been made of this move and it is only fair to have recorded that we, as a League, and certainly yours truly as Chairman, have never enforced any decision upon the members clubs. Indeed the Management mission is to assist and arrange the provision of what the majority of member clubs wish for. We now offer mini soccer for the age groups under-8, 9 and 10 and then it’s competitive football for the under 11, 12 and 13 age groups. We have, this year, complied with the Football Associations wishes and dispensed with a Cup competition for the under-8s and so our finals day in 2009 will not involve that age group. During the summer we welcomed aboard, as new sponsors Red Post, and they are the driving force behind our fabulous website which keeps everybody up to date with everything that they need to know or indeed find out about. It will not have escaped anybody with half an eye on the media that in the world of professional football there is a serious drive to improve the behaviour of players on the pitch - and I would like to ask ALL our member clubs to ensure that they ‘do their bit’ to help with a campaign of greater RESPECT for both the officials and indeed everybody else connected with the game.

  • Denbury in the Great
Men of Denbury 1914-1918 Denbury Place and People the Great War Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, (Totnes Image Bank) Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you planned: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray, Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that I once had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad. Christina Rossetti The county of Devon was unusual, but not unique, in that not a single village survived the Great War without loss. Denbury deaths as a percentage of its population were amongst the highest in the land. My thanks go to the many Regiments, Museums, organisation, websites and private records that you have allowed me to research, copy and quote. Based on research carried out by Mick Sutherland-Cook 1 Men of Denbury 1914-1918 (IWM) Information supplied here is as accurate and complete as possible from the records available. Unfortunately, 70/80% of all WW1 service records were destroyed in the Blitz of WW2. If you have additional information on any of the men listed or any I may have omitted please let me know via [email protected] Introduction This publication is produced from the information gathered during my research into Denbury's contribution during the Great War 1914 – 1918 (and to 1922 when most Memorials were dedicated).

  • HOUSES and FAMILIES
THE ABBOTSKERSWELL VILLAGE HISTORY SERIES, 2 HOUSES and FAMILIES An AbbPast Publication Introduction elcome to our second volume in the Abbotskerswell Village History Series, we hope you have read the first one and are eagerly awaiting this one on village housing. It tells a long story ofW continuity and change related to industry and the village’s inhabitants, both the important ones and the hardworking ones. A number of issues confronted us in telling this story, one being road names; do you use the official ones or the colloquial ones, the historic ones or the modern ones. As before the answer has to be to use all of them to give the flavour of the story, so Buckpitt’s Hill is the road that leads to Stoneman’s Hill, Priory Road was Nunnery Lane until quite recently, Slade Lane possibly went all the way through the village at one time but now Odle Hill (and is that one word or two) is the top part, unless you use Mallands Lane at the very top. Our older residents will tell you Slade Lane actually passes in front of the Butchers Arms, passes Ladywell and becomes the bridle path alongside the Court Grange Copse. This leaves Oak Hill going up past Brooklands, and have you ever noticed the signpost at the top of that hill, called Great Oak? 2. Houses & Families tells the story of a village’s homes and some of the more significant villagers. We were particularly keen to tell the story from long ago right up to today and then place it in its historical context because that is vital.
