The 11th of August 1253 marked the end of the earthly pilgrimage of St Clare of Assisi, disciple of St Francis and foundress of your Order, known as the Poor Sisters or Poor Clares, that today counts, in its various branches, around 900 monasteries scattered over the five continents. Seven hundred and fifty years from her death, the commemoration of this great Saint continues to be keenly felt in the hearts of the faithful; I am pleased on this occasion to send to your religious Family a cordial thought and an affectionate greeting.On such an important jubilee commeration, St Clare urges all to understand in a much deeper way the value of the vocation, which is a gift given from God, intended to bear fruit. Concerning this, she wrote in her Testament: "Among the other gifts that we have received and do daily receive from our benefactor, the Father of mercies, and for which we must express the deepest thanks to the glorious Father of Christ, there is our vocation, for which, all the more by the way of its being more perfect and greater, do we owe the greatest thanks to Him. Therefore, the Apostle [writes]: "Know your vocation'" (2-4).2. Born in Assisi between the years 1193-1194 of the noble family Di Favarone of Offreduccio, St Clare received, especially from her mother Ortolana, a solid Christian education. Illuminated by divine grace, she let herself be drawn to the new form of evangelical life initiated by St Francis and his companions, and decided, in her turn, to embark on a more radical following of Christ.

VOCATIONS is a card game where all of the cards are shuffled and are laid face down on a surface in orderly rows and columns, like so: All of the cards have a mate. Each turn, two cards are flipped over. If the cards do not match, they are both turned back face down. If the cards match, they are left face up and the person who made the match receives a point. With a VOCATIONS deck of cards there are 2 types of winning play: 1. the pair is considered the card with the picture and name of the religious order and the mission and founding of the religious order. 2. the pair is considered the card with the picture and name of the religious order and the picture and name of the religious order. 1, 2, 3 or 4 people can play VOCATIONS.     Saints Related to Young People Thomas Aquinas—Academics Thomas was a gentle teacher who believed faith and reason when used wisely would enable all humanity to know and love God as the angels. He studied in Paris from 1245-1248 under Saint Albert the Great, then accompanied Albertus to Cologne. Here he received the nickname “dumb ox,” though he is now considered a Doctor of the Church, and one of the most intelligent philosophers of all time. Vitus—Against Oversleeping For obscure reasons, some 16th century Germans believed they could obtain a year's good health by dancing before the statue of Saint Vitus on his feast day. This dancing developed almost into a mania, and was confused with chorea, the nervous condition later known as Saint Vitus' Dance, the saint being invoked against it. Francis of Assisi—Animals, Catholic Action It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching. Son of a rich cloth merchant. Misspent youth. Street brawler and some-time soldier. During an imprisonment in Perugia, he had a conversion experience, including a reported message from Christ calling him to leave this worldly life. Sixty- one chapter fathers participated, 19 ex officio and 42 elected by the nine territories of the congregation and the centers of Rome. 2. This Extraordinary General Chapter marks the end of the journey of in-depth revision that the congregation has travelled since the apostolic visitation, which took place during 2009- 2010, and the naming of a Pontifical Delegate in the summer of 2010. Our principal tasks in the Chapter, as Pope Benedict XVI1 indicated and as Pope Francis confirmed2, were to revise the Constitutions and to elect a new central government for the congregation. 3. In the first days, in light of the reports that the Pontifical Delegate and the pro-General Director submitted, we focused on analyzing the life of the Congregation since the ordinary General Chapter that took place in 2005. One of the outcomes of the intense exchange of ideas that took place in those days was the communiqué that the Chapter approved on January 20th, 2014, about the journey of renewal of the Congregation.     Don Bosco’s Devotion to Mary Help of Christians Mamma Margaret and Francis Bosco instilled into their children a strong devotion to Mary, praying the rosary together daily as a family. John made this devotion his and would make the recitation of the rosary one of the cornerstones of his Preventive System. John was devoted to Mary under any title though at various times of his life there was greater emphasis placed on one or the other. Growing up, the primary devotion was to the Immaculate, as the Woman who remained free from the stain of sin, always doing God’s Will. In Chieri, during his first vocation crisis at the end of high school in 1835, John made a novena to know the Lord’s Will, as regarded that vocation, to Our Lady of Grace for it was her painting that adorned one of the altars in the Duomo there. Upon moving to Torino, Our Lady of Consolation was most frequently appealed to since her church was but a stone’s throw from the Oratory and there was an ancient devotion to her in that city. It was before her image that Don Bosco knelt and to her that he entrusted himself, asking her to now “be his mother” upon Mamma Margaret’s death in 1856. Then, revolutionary fever escalated in Italy (or, better, in the many individual kingdoms in what would become Italy in 1870). Rebels began to ask for the unification of Italy, whether peacefully or by force. Kings could give up their smaller kingdoms peacefully in favor of a unified Italy or they would be taken by force, if necessary.
