The year before I had listened with excitement to the launch of our local commercial station, Liverpool's Radio City, and wanted to find out what other stations I might be able to pick up. In those days the Guide covered TV as well as radio, which could only manage to fill two pages – but then there were only 19 “ILR” stations.

ntt-aktuell März 2007 (1. Ausgabe) Dr. Hj. Biener, Neulichtenhofstr.

Audiences are listening both to a wider range of stations and for longer in total than they were five years ago. Radio is also at the cutting edge of convergence. Audiences listen to radio not just over conventional sets but, increasingly, via digital television, mobile phones and the internet; and there is a growing range of data and multi-media services available over digital radio sets. Since Ofcom inherited regulation of commercial radio from the Radio Authority, we have taken a number of specific steps to help the industry develop and increase choice for audiences.

  • Muxco North Yorkshire Limited
MuxCo North Yorkshire Limited An application to Ofcom for the North Yorkshire local DAB digital radio multiplex Part A – Public Section September 2007 Executive summary Please provide a summary of your application, of no more than four pages in length. Our Beliefs 1. Radio is in the second phase of development of DAB. In phase one, the larger heritage operators colonised the DAB landscape, simulcasting popular analogue stations and introducing some new digital only services. In the second phase, smaller and new radio operators have entered the market to create new audio and data services and to drive the industry forward with new ideas and business models. 2. MuxCo North Yorkshire Ltd (‘MuxCo Yorks’) believes that digital radio broadcasting should be available to as many organisations as possible. In addition, a multiplex should offer a wide range of broadcast options, such as bit rates, hours of broadcast etc, making DAB as economical as possible to service providers, and thereby helping to maximise the take-up of digital radio. 3. We believe that with launch of more national services over the next 12 months, it is financially prudent to encourage a range of local operators to broadcast. Local (and regional) services have the ability to attract a mixture of local and national revenue, giving them multiple opportunities to support their businesses. The North Yorkshire Marketplace 4. The first dedicated commercial radio service in North Yorkshire launched in 1992 - Minster FM. Whilst other local services, as well as regional and national radio, have launched over the last 15 years, the current choice of commercial radio in the county remains relatively poor.

  • European Medium Wave Guide Caught on Well, and Thanks to Some Renowned Dxers and DX Clubs, the Publication Became More and More Professional
Compiled by Herman Boel & James Niven EMWG homepage: www.emwg.info © 1998-2005 Preface & Copyright Welcome to the Euro-African Medium Wave Guide What lies in front of you or what you see on your computer screen is the result of a lot of hard work and love. In the mid-1990s I was becoming more and more interested in medium wave, in particular the European medium wave. I noticed that the sources I used to consult, the WRTH and Sender&Frequenzen, mostly contained concise frequency lists with nothing more than the frequency, station name and power output. This lead to a continuous browsing between pages to get as much information as possible and make DXing easier. Just like many other DXers I started to make my own list with the information I could find. That information came especially from various club bulletins, but also from messages in the DXAntwerp Bulletin Board System. This was the internet's predecessor and meant a true revolution for DXers who could now exchange information through their computer. At the time the EMWG was still called the Long and Medium Wave Guide for Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East and was initially drawn up in the Flemish language. As non-Flemish speaking DXers also became interested I switched to English and uploaded the list at regular intervals onto the DXA Bulletin Board. Initially a modest attempt to help myself with the hobby, the list soon turned out to be a hole in the market. The later renamed European Medium Wave Guide caught on well, and thanks to some renowned DXers and DX clubs, the publication became more and more professional.
