Thanks to an “Arts Meets Activism” grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women, a new after-school program is being offered to girls at Nativity Academy at St. Boniface. Carol Nord Carrie Neumayer, an experienced local art teacher, is Executive Director facilitating a new program called “GirlPress”, designed to engage girls in exploring depictions of females in the media. The work will address misconceptions and Development News stereotypes, promote creative participation in local media, and encourage girls in the group to find ways to make their own voices heard in our community. During the program, the girls will make their own “zines”, and help create a website to voice their opinions about women and girls in media. “GirlPress” sessions will be co-facilitated by Erin Fitzgerald from Beargrass Media Club, who will bring audio and video components to the project. This is a fabulous, empowering new opportunity for our female students!
