Alpha is coming! Coming Fall 2018

ALPHA It’s in Catholic Churches all over the world!

Why Alpha? Alpha is a chance for people to grow in their relationship with God. It’s a place to learn, to ask questions and share viewpoints about life and faith. About 100 of us will gather for 8 weeks for a free meal, followed by a video to spark discussion, followed by round-table talk. It’s for anyone—old, young, in-between; churchgoer or not; just beginning the faith journey or further along on the road. It’s about taking the next step and making a difference in your life.

Where does it come from? It was started in London by Father Nicky Gumbel, an Anglican priest who has an amazing story of how he journeyed from atheist to priest! From there it has spread like wildfire throughout the world to all kinds of churches, including the Roman Catholic Church. It has been promoted by many Catholic bishops and cardinals, including the Pope’s own preacher. See below for their testimonies (including one from a guy you might know), and you can see more video testimonies on the Alpha Catholic website: https://alphausa.org/catholic/ endorsements. “Many parishes in the Arch- diocese of Detroit have found Alpha a great tool for helping men and women hear the initial proclamation of the Gospel. I am pleased that our use of Alpha with the Archdiocesan staff has invited a recommitment to the basic truths of the Gospel.”

The Beautiful Hands of a Priest

We need them in life's early morning, we need them again at its close;

We feel their warm clasp of true friendship, we seek it while tasting life's woes. When we come to this world we are sinful, the greatest as well as the least.

And the hands that make us pure as angels are the beautiful hands of a priest.

At the altar each day we behold them, And the hands of a king on his throne

Are not equal to them in their greatness their dignity stands all alone.

For there in the stillness of morning the sun has emerged from the east,

There God rests between the pure fingers of the beautiful hands of a priest.

When we are tempted and wander to pathways of shame and sin

'Tis the hand of a priest that absolve us. Not once but again and again.

And when we are taking life's partner other hands may prepare us a feast

But the hands that will bless and unite us, are the beautiful hands of a priest.

God bless them and keep them all holy, for the Host which their fingers caress,

What can a poor sinner do better than to ask Him who chose them to bless

When the hour of death comes upon us may our courage and strength be increased.

By seeing raised over us in anointing the beautiful hands of a priest!

Remember and pray for all the wonderful men and woman serving in our Military especially those who are away from their homes so that we can enjoy peace and freedom. God bless all of them and comfort those who have suffered sickness or injury.

Focus on Religious Freedom from Catholics for Freedom of Religion CFFR www.cffor.org 'Tis the Season for GRADUATIONS! And, YES… Student Speakers May Pray!

Colorado Mesa University has reversed its requirement that graduation speeches must be devoid of religious references after Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) contacted them on behalf of a student who was told she needed to keep comments about Christ out of her planned speech.

"It is ... well established law (U.S. Supreme Court) that university officials cannot silence speech simply because it expresses a particular viewpoint, including a religious one," wrote an ADF attorney. (coloradomesa.edu; adflegal.org,5/10/18; christiannews.net,5/11/18; frc.org,5/14/18)

"I share the concern and frustration that many Americans feel about situations where the protections accorded by the First Amendment are not recognized or understood. This problem has manifested itself in our Nation's public schools." President Bill Clinton, 1995, Memorandum on Religious Expression in Public Schools
