Monday July 29 — Qualifying Tuesday July 30 — Qualifying Wednesday July 31 — Registration Closes at NOON for all contestants in the men's or seniors' Division. Anyone entered must be in the program of qualifying at 9:00 P.M. Extra entry fees will be paid for those qualifying as follows: Class "A" $10.00, Class "B", $5.00, Class "C" and Seniors $1.00. All entry fees must be paid before 10 P.M. Wednesday, July 31, 1963. Seniors must use their option at this time as to whether they will pitch in Seniors or in one of the other classes. Thursday Morning, August 1 — NHPA Convention. Noon, N.H.P.A. Banquet. Evening, at 5:30 P.M. Opening Ceremonies and starting rounds for 36 men in Championship Class. Friday Morning, August 2 — Class C (4 groups of six men each) and Seniors start. Friday Afternoon, August 2 — Class "B" (three groups of twelve men each). Friday Evening, August 2 — 36 man Championship rounds. Saturday Morning, August 3 — Class "C", 8 man playoff and Seniors. Saturday Afternoon. August 3 — Class "B" Sunday Evening, August 3 — 36 man Championship round. Sunday Morning, August 4 — 1963, NOTHING SCHEDULED, ATTEND CHURCH OF YOUR CHOICE. Sunday Afternoon, August 4 Class "B" Sunday Evening, August 4 — 36 man Championship Round. Monday, August 5, at 11:00 A.M. — Ladies and Juniors entries must be in. A 100 shoe qualifying: round will be held on Saturday, June 29 with round robin finals to be played the following- day. Players living on or east of US 31 and on or south of US 36 are eligible. It will be a .sanctioned event directed by officers of the Connersville club and Earle Wilmore, Secretary of the Indiana State Association. THE HORSESHOE PITCHER'S NEWS DIGEST 11th Annual Northwest Open Tournament, July 27-28 By John Yernberg WHEN: July 27-28, 1963. Sponsors — St. Paul, Ramsey County Horseshoe Club. WHERE: Ramsey County Courts, White Bear Avenue at Frost, St. Paul, Minn. ENTRY FEE: $1.50 for the first 100 shoes pitched. $1.00 for each additional 100 shoes (limit of 3). Twin City entries are urged to qualify by Friday July 26. Out of town entries before 12 noon on Saturday, July 27. No St. Paul entries may qualify on Saturday. No qualifications may begin after 12 noon on Saturday. FINALS: Finalists pay $2.00 additional entry fee. Top 11 qualifiers plus de- fending champion John Paxton of Ottumwa, Iowa, make up Champion- ship Division. The top 12 men will make up the championship flight. There will be 5 more classes with 8 men in each division. TROPHIES: 1st 4 places — Champion ship Division and A-l Division. 1st 3 places — Balance of remaining division. STARTING TIMES: 1:30 July 27 — Divisions A-3, B-l, B-2, B-3 will play all seven games. 7:00 p.m. July 27 — Championship Division and A-l Division will play four games. 11:00 a.m. July 28 — Championship Division, A-l and A-2 will play seven games. Dean Chiddister won the Goshen event with an average of 64.3. Noah Adams placed 2nd and Ishmael Rookstool 3rd. Others in Class "A" were Irv Detweiler, Collen Alwine, Rodney Strang, Ivan Detweiler and Lora Over- hosier. Jim Wark captured Class "B" with Dean Trindle and Ed Pauley plac- ing 2nd and 3rd. Pauley averaged 50 percent ringers. At Kokomo Bill Hobbs Earl Van Natter and Harold Walker finished in a three way tie for top honors, all three averaging over 66 percent ringers. Rain prevented a playoff. Others in the top class were Lloyd Neal, Neil Farr and Bill Dunn. Class "B" was won by Charlie Hanson with Ralph Feller plac- ing 2nd. Chet Reel took Class "C". Kenneth Day won the Muncie tourney in a playoff from Bob Boyar with 57.8 percent. Others in the top class were Chet Craig, Russ Stone, Ben Shores and Lonnie Mullins. Bob Bock won Class "B" from Ben Royer, Jasper Pine took Class "C" with Orville Stewert placing 2nd. Ray Howell downed Dick Shafer in the playoff for Class D. Indiana Association President, Don Owens qualified for Class "A" but withdrew (to direct the tourney. Harold McFatridge took honors at Connersville, averaging 63.3. Marv. Chrisman and Ray Wood tied for 2nd. Others in Class "A" were Paul Van Sickle, Harold Holland and Ray Pitcher. Morris Gillespie edged Richard Pitcher for the Class "B" title. The 31 entries in the Cayuga tournament included a number of Illinois players and was topped by Floyd Fowler of Greencastle, Ind. who averaged 77.3 percent. Gil Bancroft of Illinois placed 2nd and Virgil Taylor took 3rd by virtue of a higher ringer percentage than was posted by Gary Farnsworth and Merle Tirey.
