Developer contributions How is Section 106 money used? When new housing is agreed within an area there are often obligations attached to the agreement, known as Section 106 agreements. Many of these include payments of financial contributions but can also be non-financial, such as provision of land for open space or affordable housing. This money often has restrictions attached and can only be used for specific locations and be relevant to the area where new development will be located – for example including funds for traffic calming, school places and flood mitigation.
