PRESS RELEASE The sell-out West End hit show THE SIMON AND GARFUNKEL STORY comes to New Brighton as part of a UK Tour Following its WEST END success at London’s Leicester Square Theatre in February 2015, The Simon and Garfunkel Story is currently the No 1 touring theatre show celebrating the lives and career of this folk/rock duo sensation. Starring Dean Elliot (Paul Simon) and David Tudor (Art Garfunkel), and directed by David Beck, The Simon and Garfunkel Story comes to New Brighton’s Floral Pavilion Theatre on Thursday 3 rd September 2015. The Simon and Garfunkel Story tells the fascinating tale of how two young boys from Queens, New York went on to become the world’s most successful music duo of all time. Starting from their humble beginnings as 50’s Rock n Roll duo ‘Tom & Jerry’, the show takes you through all the songs and stories that shaped them, the dramatic split, their individual solo careers and ending with a stunning recreation of the legendary 1981 Central Park reunion concert. LIPA trained actor and musician Dean Elliott rose to fame in the lead role as Buddy Holly in the West End, Olivier Award nominated musical Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story . In this role he had the honour of opening the 2008 West End Revival at the Duchess Theatre, London and in Buddy’s hometown of Lubbock, Texas before taking the role around Europe and Canada. Other notable theatre work includes Over The Rainbow – The Eva Cassidy Story (UK No1 Tour), Release The Beat (Arcola Theatre, London) and the multi award winning Ed – The Musical (Edinburgh Festival). -

Com a certeira produção de Steve Lillywhite, que tratou de valorizar uma sonoridade encorpada e mais consistente em relação ao que se fazia na época dentro da seara do “pós-punk-pop”, todo o repertório acabou se valorizando ainda mais. Não tinha como não se entusiasmar com as audições de pequenas maravilhas “I Will Follow”, “The Electric Co.”, “Twilight” e a dobradinha “An Cat Dubh”/”Into the Heart”, todas com refrãos maravilhosos e que grudavam imediatamente no cérebro. Por um lado, ficaram receosos em soltar por aqui um disco diferente do anterior, em que a banda deixou de lado os refrãos fáceis e elaborou um repertório mais “difícil”, que exigia muito mais do ouvinte. A canção que mais de aproximava do que estávamos acostumados é “Gloria”, que até ganhou videoclipe por causa disso. É um disco com menor intensidade sônica, como comprovam os violões e piano em “I Fall Down”, a introspecção de “Scarlet” e da faixa-título. -

Ciaran Gribbin
Ciaran Gribbin Ciaran Gribbin is a Grammy nominated songwriter and performer who, in addition to working with word class artists such as Madonna, U2, Paul McCartney, Snow Patrol and Al Pacino, has toured the world as the singer of INXS. Ciaran was born in war-torn Northern Ireland growing up in ‘The Troubles’. As a young musician he cut his teeth doing gig after gig in the tough bars of Belfast and Derry. During this turbulent time in a divided society, Ciaran witnessed and experienced the bombs and bullets of sectarian abuse and paramilitary attacks. Ciaran’s first big break came in 2010 when he received a Grammy nomination for Madonna’s worldwide hit single ‘Celebration’, which he co-wrote with Madonna and Oakenfold. Since then, in addition to performing at many music festivals including Brazil’s ‘Rock in Rio’, Ciaran has opened shows for Paul McCartney, Crowded House, The Script and Gotye. Ciaran has worked extensively as a songwriter for acts such as Groove Armada and Dead Mau5. He has also worked on multiple movie soundtracks including writing all of the original songs for the U2 supported movie ‘Killing Bono’. This movie was released through Paramount Pictures with a Sony Music soundtrack album. In 2011 Ciaran became the singer of the legendary Australian band INXS. Guggenheim, who directed the 2007 global-warming doc An Inconvenient Truth, wanted to stay away from typical rock-documentary tactics. It Might Get Loud has no rock critics, no ex-girlfriends, and no narration. Instead Guggenheim focuses on why these three write and play the way they do and how they developed their personal styles. Guggenheim wanted the three to open up — and they did. Jimmy Page plays air guitar while listening to music that influenced him as a kid, Jack White writes an original song on camera, and The Edge talks about how he drives everyone crazy trying to get the music in his head to come out of the amps. The movie brings the three together on a soundstage to share stories, show one another their songs, and play. Nerve spoke with Guggenheim about the men behind the legends. — Emily Wilson You won an Oscar for An Inconvenient Truth. After that, why did you choose to do a movie about the electric guitar? May 3rd – June 3r, 2012 the San Francisco Bay Area conceived stop-motion animation festival will travel to the Netherlands, Germany and Croatia for the world premiere of Stop & Go 3-D. The Stop & Go program was developed in 2008 and showcases animations that use stop-motion techniques to explore visual language, tell stories and make social commentaries. Stop & Go 3-D features a new series of stop-motion animations by 27 contemporary visual artists and filmmakers from around the world. The program dramatically plays with our visual senses through the artist’s use of stobing effects, afterimages, anaglyphic experiments, optical elements and three- dimensional spoofs. The animations in this program were chosen from a world- wide open call for submissions and by invitation. Five of the animations in the program require the audience to wear red/cyan-colored glasses to fully engage with the work. In Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Berlin and Zagreb Stop & Go 3-D will screen alongside Doppler Stop an exhibition of optically and perceptually challenging artworks. Pairing the screening alongside an exhibition is designed to illuminate a deeper connection between the artists’ primary practices of painting, drawing and sculpture and the processes used in their animations. The Stop & Go 3-D screening program is curated by Sarah Klein, an artist, educator, and curator whose own practice includes animation, and the Doppler Stop exhibition is curated by Mel Prest, an artist and educator. -

Myth is from the Greek word, “mythos” — which means “word of mouth” — oral stories shared from person to person. Myths have helped people from different cultures to make sense of the natural world, before scientific discoveries guided our understanding. Myths explained the reason for an erupting volcano, or thunder and lightning, or even night following day. Many myths feature gods, goddesses or humans with supernatural powers. Kids may be familiar with Zeus, the king of all gods in Greek mythology, who could throw lightning bolts from the sky down to Earth. Myths often include a lesson, suggesting how humans should act. A legend is a traditional story about a real place and time in the past. Legends are rooted in the truth, but have changed over time and retelling and taken on fictional elements. The heroes are human (not gods and goddesses) but they often have adventures that are larger-than-life. The tales of Odysseus from Ancient Greece and King Arthur from Medieval England are two examples of legends. Myths and legends can be found throughout the world. Many of these traditional stories feature similar subjects, but express the unique culture and history of the regions where they are from. There are flood myths from India, aboriginal legends from Australia, Taino creation stories from Puerto Rico, the legend of the Chinese zodiac, Norse myths, and many more. -
