Notice of Election Preferential Primary Nonpartisan Judicial General & Countywide Special Election Tuesday, May 22, 2012 NOTICE OF ELECTION PREFERENTIAL PRIMARY NONPARTISAN JUDICIAL GENERAL & COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION TUESDAY, MAY 22, 2012 The Board of Election Commissioners of Washington County, Arkansas, pursuant to Arkansas election law 7-5- 202, does hereby proclaim that a Preferential Primary and Nonpartisan Judicial General and Countywide Special Election will be held in Washington County, Arkansas, on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. To check your voter registration status and find your polling place go to www.voterview.org. If your voter registration has changed and if you have questions concerning your eligibility to vote, or don’t have access to the internet, please call the County Clerk’s office at 444-1711 prior to Election Day. EARLY VOTING: County Clerk’s office, 3rd Floor, Washington County Courthouse, Fayetteville, AR, beginning May 7, 2012 until May 21, 2012. Hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. M – F, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays (May 12th and May 19th) and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 21st, before the election. Here are excerpts from a story published yesterday by Mike Wickline of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette about the Legislative Leadership elections: The Arkansas Senate Republican caucus voted Tuesday to nominate Sen. Jim Hendren of Sulphur Springs over Sen. Jimmy Hickey of Texarkana to be the next president pro tempore, Hendren said Tuesday afternoon. Some senators and Capitol insiders had been privately speculating that there would be a close vote in the 23-member caucus for the upper chamber’s next leader. But Hendren said he doesn’t know what the vote count was for the post, and the ballots were destroyed. “We don’t disclose the vote counts,” said Hendren, who now serves as the majority leader. The Senate will formally choose a president pro tempore-elect on the last day of this year’s fiscal session and then vote to confirm him on the first day of the 2019 regular session. Since the Senate now includes 23 Republicans, nine Democrats and three vacant seats, the caucus’s decision to nominate Hendren as the Senate’s next leader is tantamount to his election for the post.
