Today’s fathers are far different than those of yesteryear. Today, they change diapers, feed their children, read to them, play with them, bathe them, and hug and kiss more.

I see all this with my grandson and my great- granddaughter and it gives me a great deal of plea- sure. And it definitely shows in her smile and happiness.

Mothering can be tedious, however, fathering is not an easy task either. So let’s applaud our young fathers of today who are working, coming home, changing the baby while mommy cooks, etc., etc.

The combination of both parents each doing what is necessary makes for a more cohesive relationship with their child. Father’s rock!!

DW: Michael, thank you.

Schneider Or a bird on the wing Land of the free, “We’re jumping off.” Because of the brave, Course, loud, abrupt. Mal wrote of moms and dads They risked their lives, And children at play Our land they’d save. Climbed out the holes, And from this cry, Gentle words of kindness Dug deeply in To take this hill, Loving in every way Holes in the ground. Young men would die. Mal wrote of his home The rocks and mud Our country safe. You could tell from the start They sadly found. Our freedom kept. Like all the poems he wrote They hunkered down. Random thoughts go through my mind I still can see my father,

As Mother’s Day draws near, His stature, style and grace. Some I wish I could forget … The tender way he held my hand, Some that are oh, so dear! The smile that lit up his face. The warning of a silent stare, I hear the hearty way he laughed And then the gentle touch, When I told him something funny. The twinkling eyes, the hair of white, That certain stride as he walked along, A smile that meant so much. When I was sick and lay in bed And the way he called me, “Honey.” There’d be a mustard plaster I never heard my dad complain With burning, itching, piercing smells I never saw him cry.

To make me heal much faster. When a silent stare was his only word

Up and down the stairs she’d climb, I never questioned “why?” 10, 15 times a day Respected as a businessman, To bring me tea or chicken soup He worked hard all his life, To take the hurt away. But the things he cherished most dearly For 97 years she was Were his children and his wife. The thread that held us tight, His manner, soft and gentle, The warm rolls in the morning, The lullabys at night. Never turbulent or wild, “Don’t worry, it’ll be all right,” He taught me well the golden rules … She often used to say I was proud to be his child.

And when she said it, I believed Father’s Day brings special thoughts

That all would be okay. I remember … and I’m glad

When all is said and done, I’d say As I picture him with smiles of love, She raised us very well. My Father … My Pop … My Dad! What will our children say of us? Only time will tell!
