Some private American medical insurance companies will pay for expenses abroad, but most require that the patient pay the bill first, then file for reimbursement. Hospitals and health care providers will expect payment if you are not covered by the Spanish health care system. The United States Embassy does not have funding to help cover medical expenses of American citizens in Spain. Anuario de Estudios Atlánticos, nº 63: 063-019. http://anuariosatlanticos. casadecolon.com/index.php/aea/article/view/9925 Resumen: El cultivo de la caña de azúcar en las Islas Canarias y la consiguiente industria para la obtención del azúcar tuvo su florecimiento en los siglos XVI y XVII, y con ello el nacimiento y la implantación de un vocabu- lario específico relacionado con esos dos procesos. La caída de esas actividades hasta su total desaparición fue paralela a la caída y casi total olvido de ese vocabulario en el habla popular de las islas. Pero muchas de aquellas palabras perdidas quedan en la toponimia como testimonio de aquella actividad y de los lugares en que se ubicaron los ingenios. Palabras clave: léxico, azúcar, toponimia, Islas Canarias Abstract: The cultivation of sugar cane in the Canary Islands and the consequent industry for the production of sugar had its flowering in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and thus the birth and implementation of a specific vocabulary related to these two processes. The fall of these activities until their total disappearance was parallel to the decline and almost total neglect of that vocabulary in popular speech of the islands.

Las razones de semejante deficiencia son ciertamente diversas: el tradicional régimen señorial de la isla, su crónica penuria económica y la escasa población que ha tenido siempre este trozo de tierra insular a lo largo de todos los tiempos.
