Contact Ingrid 9744 6623, [email protected] PL Women’s Group – Auburn Botanical Gardens – Page 2 of 4 Visit to Japanese Gardens – 25 August 2011 Auburn Botanical Garden The Auburn Botanic Gardens was opened in 1977 and since then has become a popular attraction for local residents and visitors alike. The gardens are set on 9.2 hectares of lush parklands and feature a Japanese Garden with traditional style Japanese landscaping that include a waterfall, decorative bridges and ornamental trees set around a large lake. There is also a Japanese Bonsai Garden but this is temporarily closed. Other highlights of the botanical garden are: All areas of the gardens are wheel-chair accessible Fauna Reserve with native animals such as kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and emus Sunken Rose Garden with roses flowering throughout October and November. Scented Garden with an undercover wedding pavilion Australian Native and Rainforest gardens with many native plants and trees set around a shady billabong Peacocks, swans and native birds wander freely around the garden and provide great photographic opportunities PL Women’s Group – Auburn Botanical Gardens – Page 3 of 4 Visit to Japanese Gardens – 25 August 2011 Tree lined reflection pool Equal Access play ground with a large interactive play structure, a maze and a Liberty swing that can be used by children in a wheelchair Plenty of picnic areas Because of its picturesque settings, the Auburn Botanical Gardens are also very popular for wedding receptions. Such events are welcome but bookings are essential to ensure availability on the day that you want. If you are interested, call the Council's Booking Officer on 02 9735 1222. The Auburn Botanical Gardens are open everyday (except Christmas Day) from 9am to 5pm. They have extended opening hours during summer - 9am to 7pm on weekends and 9am to 7pm everyday during the summer school holidays. Admission is free for Auburn residents but non-residents pay $3 per person. The Botanical Gardens is located at the corner of Chisholm and Chiswick Roads, Auburn. There's plenty of free parking but if coming by train; drop at Auburn station and catch the 909 bus to the gardens.
