WE MEET THE 4TH TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH! Our President and VP in Vegas! More August Luncheon Pictures—Page 8 and 9 Page 2 BEYOND 2020 By: Niger Innis, Guest Columnist Over one hundred and sixty years ago Charles Dickens first line of the classic, A Tale of two cities, Dickens when writing about the state of western civilization asserts that, It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair. This could very well describe the state of American led western civilization today. It is indeed the best of times. No country in history has any country gone through, what my father and immediate past chairman of CORE (Roy Innis) asserted was the greatest, relatively peaceful, yet rapid social transfor- mation then the United States. What he was speaking about of course is the civil rights movement of the 1960s and 70s. Just in my lifetime, there were large segment of our country where Michelle and Barack Obama could not get a cup of coffee at a lunch counter, and some 50 years later we (regardless of political affiliation) can celebrate the election and re-election of our first black President, just a few years ago. America, and to a great extent our neighbors to the north have the largest most successful interracial democracy’s in history. Some of our biggest stars that we project on the world stage are as Lin Manuel Miranda, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Ellen Degeneris, Taylor Swift, Kanye and Kim, LeBron James, Patrick Mahomes, etc. Article continues on the SHRW website; click here: READ MORE FOUNDATION ASSISTING SENIORS - SILENT AUCTION AT THE SEPTEMBER SHRW LUNCHEON! To all SHRW members, the Foundation Assisting Seniors is reaching out for your support. As the Covid19 has affected all our lives, it has forced cancellation of six important fundraisers for the Foundation this year. The cancellations have impacted us financially as we rely on them to continue free services of 30,000+ assists yearly to all seniors and veterans. The SHRW Board has graciously agreed to host the Foundation’s Silent Auction at the September SHRW luncheon. We invite you to participate in this fundraiser as all of us, or a friend, may someday need our services which include the lending of wheelchairs-scooters-hospital beds and more, daily wellness check, daily medication reminder, limited handy man services and transportation to the doctor or the grocery store. Come to the September luncheon prepared to purchase some awesome baskets, golf packages, wine, Fleming’s dinner certificate, Cili’s lunch for two certificate, M Resort Staycation and more! Cash, checks and credit cards accepted. With your participation inthis Silent Auction, we look forward to assisting more seniors and veterans in the Las Vegas Valley.
