Gare du Nord 1861-1866, Paris Jacques-Ignace Hittorff Emplacement de la maquette dans la galerie d’architecture moderne et contemporaine La Maquette La maquette est située à la table 3 dédiée sur la grande portée et à la gran- de hauteur. Fabriquée en bois, métal et plexiglas, elle reproduit à l’échelle 1/175e le bâtiment de la gare du Nord. Elle permet donc d’observer une façade en pierre traitée dans un style classique. Les pilastres cannelés, les chapiteaux ioniques et les personnifications féminines des villes en témoignent. Des verrières comblent également les ouvertures. Le volume qui abrite les quais reprend la forme d’un hangar industriel. Il s’agit d’un plan basilical à trois nefs qui comprend une vaste ossature métallique. Les fermes métalliques ont une portée de 35m environ. Elles sont soutenues par des colonnes en fonte. Après sa formation chez un maître maçon-charpentier, il fournit des plans pour des maisons bourgeoises de sa ville natale de Co- logne. Elève de Boulanger, architecte des rois Louis-Philippe et Charles X au début de sa carrière puis proche de Napoléon III en- suite, il est aussi archéologue, historien et urbaniste. -

Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris — Renaissance wing of the Louvre , by Pierre Lescot. Palais Garnier — by Charles Garnier. Remains of a Roman wall beneath the square in front of Notre-Dame de Paris. Very little architecture remains from the ancient town of Lutetia , founded by a Celtic tribe known as the Parisii in about the 3rd century BC. The center of Roman administration was on the island; the Roman governor's palace stood where the Palais de Justice is located today. The right bank was largely undeveloped. The Roman forum was on the summit of the hill, under the present Rue Soufflot, between the boulevard Saint-Michel and rue Saint-Jacques, [1]. The Roman town had three large baths near the forum, supplied with water by a kilometer-long aqueduct. It was the largest of the three baths, one hundred meters by sixty-five meters, and was built at the end of the 2nd century or beginning of the 3rd century BC, at the height of the town's grandeur. Though the population of the town was probably no more than 5—6 thousand persons, the amphitheater measured meters by meters, and could seat fifteen thousand persons. Fifteen tiers of seats remain from the original thirty-five.
