Instead, she takes him to see a magician, the Amazing Marco. During audience participation, the Amazing Marco hypnotizes Pete's mom into thinking she's a pirate. But then he gets called away for the impending birth of his Pirate Mom, leaving Pete to have to drag his pirate mom home. The hypnotism is supposed to wear off, but it doesn't, This goofy little story is actually pretty funny. The hypnotism is supposed to wear off, but it doesn't, and Pete has to deal with a bellicose pirate who's always trying to steal people's loot. What's Pirate Mom boy to do? I'm not surprised I enjoyed this one as much as I did, since I've liked some of Deborah Underwood's other books. The illustrations work well with the text, too, providing the perfect illustration of the silly pirate mom and her shenanigans. The book ends with a bit of a twist that's somewhat predictable, but that kids will probably like. Overall, it's a strong book for early readers that'll have pirate lovers cracking a smile or two. Quotable moment: Pirate Mom stood Pirate Mom the yard. She wore an eye patch and Pirate Mom pirate head scarf. Pete's parrot sat on her shoulder. Pirate Mom swished Pirate Mom wooden spoon at the mailman. Jun 13, Pirate Mom Jr. Funny and weird. Aug 02, Angie rated it liked it Shelves: beginning-readers. My Review: This was such a fun and silly book to read with Munchkin. We both had some Pirate Mom watching the mom act like a pirate. Munchkin loved that she used a wooden spoon for a sword. It is a good level 3 book for those readers who have gained a lot of confidence and who have a little bit longer of an attention span. The illustrations in this one also added to the quirky and funny story, it will definitely keep young readers interest. Mar 24, Melissa Namba rated Pirate Mom it was amazing Shelves: Pirate Mom. A super fun book about a mom who is hypnotized into thinking she is a a pirate. Its always fun when kids have to be the adult in Pirate Mom situation and this book was able to do that with finesse. No serious consequences were necessary, but it was fun. Mar Pirate Mom, Anthony Dedrick Jr. Entertaining and funny My daughter really enjoyed it as a bedtime story. She enjoyed Pirate Mom humor. I liked that it was broken into chapters. Jun 06, Good Genius rated it it was ok Shelves: removed-from-my-library. Too many complicated subjects for a grade kid to understand hypnosis, PTA, maternity ward and vocab too advanced. Just because it Pirate Mom few words does not make it an easy reader. Sep 10, James rated it Pirate Mom was ok Shelves: picture-books. Cute idea, but not executed very well IMO. Great read for kids. An upper level easy reader about a boy who loves pirates but his mom never wants to play at being one so when a magician offers to make her one the boy readily accepts. Is a pirate mom better than a regular mom? Nov 25, Nicola Mansfield rated it really liked it Recommends it for: beginning readers. Having never heard of author or illustrator I had no high expectations of this easy reader beginning chapter book. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to find a fun, imaginative story with a message for both the child and the parent. The art is also humorous and of the cartoon show quality. Pirate Mom Pete wishes his mom would play pirates with him he gets way more than he expected after she is hypnotized into believing she is one. Pete comes out realizing he'd better be careful what he wishes for an Having never heard of author or illustrator I had no high expectations of this easy reader beginning chapter book. Pete comes out realizing he'd better be careful what he wishes for and thankful for the mum he does have, not the one Pirate Mom wishes for. Parents themselves can take note to remember that of course you must play with your children Pirate Mom remember to be their parent, not their friend. If the messages don't hit you, it's still a funny story seeing mom getting into pirate escapades that she is going to have a lot of explaining to do for tomorrow! Sep 28, Leslie rated it it was ok Shelves: early-readers. This book was read and tossed aside by my 7 year Pirate Mom a few months ago. I actually agree with it's "Step 3" level assignment. There Pirate Mom a few chapters but no Table of Contents. There are plenty of colorful, fun illustrations and the paragraphs are kept Pirate Mom about a 2 sentence length and one per page so beginner readers won't get lost or overwhelmed. My son thought it was okay and wanted Pirate Mom read it again. I recommend this book for the average 2nd grade reader. Feb 09, Sherry rated it really liked it Shelves: j-pb-er-middle-grade-ya-fict-and-nf. A very amusing tale involving a hypnotist, a boy, and his poor, unsuspecting mom. When mom thinks she's a pirate, all sorts of crazy things can happen, and Pirate Mom up to her son to make things right - before it's too late! Great read aloud to agesPirate Mom a good learn-to-read title. Pirate Mom 19, Tam rated it it was ok Shelves: early-reader. As a parent, I thought it was Pirate Mom that the people who came to the PTA meeting were all dad's and the nurse at the hospital was also a man. Feb 22, Deanna rated it really liked it. Two thumbs up for The Fabulous Pirate Mom Pirate Mom (Step into Reading) | I would like to assume as parents we strive Pirate Mom provide our children with the best of things. But I came across a funny topic that parents can go on and on, back and forth, and continue to ponder on this subject — diapers. For some, it may be as simple as what is the cheapest and you can kind of deal with it, especially being new parents. Luckily for you all, Pirate Mom is here to add some sunshine to this dark and deepening dilemma. Deciding what type of diapers you want to use for your child is the first hump to get over. Think about it and go through this list of questions. Take those into consideration, and you should be able to come to a means of understanding. Go ahead and try out the regular disposable diapers. Do keep in mind with cloth diapers some may be better for day Pirate Mom and some may be more fit for night time. Others require you to purchase inserts separately, and some brands even grow with your child, saving you, even more, money in the long run. From my research try one of these top brands and see which one Pirate Mom your fancy. If your precious baby has sensitive skin and or some allergies Pirate Mom a certain thing you might want to steer away from regular diapers that can contain harmful contaminants. These three brands have been the most buzzed about eco-friendly, organic diapers around. Now that you have a few to choose from parents do your due diligence. Take it slow and purchase a little to see how you and your child likes the diapers first. Now dog diapers are a lot Pirate Mom to figure out, let me tell you! But Pirate Mom buy doggy diapers when you can hire a pet service company to pick up the mess for you? If only we could do the same with our offspring, huh? Thank you to all my followers, and I hope some of the information here has brought you much clarity. Pirate Mom, out! Have I got your attention yet? I have my own child as well and her name is Alexiis. I see people criticize our young people and it absolutely disgusts me. That feeling you got when I wrote that about your offspring, is what I feel when I witness things like that.

TRAVEL AS A STRUGGLE FOR RECOGNITION AND EMPLACEMENT Recommended Citation Gąsiorowska, Halina. “Homeless Blogs as Travelogues. Travel as A Struggle for Recognition and Emplacement”. Metacritic Journal for Comparative Studies and Theory 3.1 (2017): https://doi.org/10.24193/mjcst.2017.3.01 Abstract: Applying Clifford’s broad concept of travel, I discuss American homeless blogs as autobiographical travel writing serving the struggle for recognition of the street people. The analysed travelogues are hitchhiker Ruth Rader’s Ruthie in the Sky blog and self-made woman Brianna Karp’s Girl’s Guide to Homelessness – a memoir published on the basis of the blog bearing the same title. In the travelogues I analyse the characteristic features of a personal travel writing: travel of the self, advice for future travellers, geographic information and portrayal of society in which the travel is undertaken. I claim that homeless bloggers recounting their stories of otherness and displacement in the US contribute to (re)constructing American cultural identity their personal Self, just like many other American travellers before. Additionally, homeless blogging about homelessness is shown as the process of emplacement (Casey) – the bloggers’ attempt of making themselves at home in the world. Key words: homeless blog, autobiographical travelogue, struggle for recognition, emplacement tramp, self-made (wo)man Homeless blogs – the personal blogs written by the homeless about their experiences of homelessness – started to appear as early as in the 1990s, but it was not before the economic crises of 2007 when the bloggers became media sensations in 5 METACRITIC JOURNAL FOR COMPARATIVE STUDIES AND THEORY 3.1 the US.

The Pennsylvania State University The Graduate School College of Communications THE “NEW TEEN MOMISM”: 16 AND PREGNANT AND THE NEW “TEEN MOM” IDENTITY A Thesis in Media Studies by Jacqueline N. Dunfee © 2012 Jacqueline N. Dunfee Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts August 2012 ii The thesis of Jacqueline N. Dunfee was reviewed and approved* by the following: Michelle Rodino-Colocino Assistant Professor of Communications Thesis Advisor Matthew McAllister Professor of Communications Marie Hardin Associate Dean of Graduate Education College of Communications *Signatures are on file in the Graduate School iii ABSTRACT Teenage pregnancy in the U.S. has been represented in popular culture in quite contradictory ways: as a serious social problem and an enviable, even glamorous youth identity. One important case in point is the television franchise 16 and Pregnant, a show that, together with its spin-off series, demonize and glamorize teen pregnancy. Above all else, 16 and Pregnant produces the spectacle of the pregnant teen as a new identity for reality television. The purpose of this thesis is to show how the content of the series 16 and Pregnant reflects and array of historical, cultural, and political-economic factors. I adopt a feminist perspective in my political-economic and textual analysis of the show and related media. The following analysis draws on Douglas and Michaels’ (2004) conception of “new momism” and Murphy’s (2012) conception of “teen momism” and applies these terms to 16 and Pregnant to explain how teen moms are constructed as both morally reprehensible yet also desirable figures that echo neoliberal and postfeminist ideologies.
