THE INTERNATIONAL MARCÉ SOCIETY FOR PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH

You are very welcome to the first International Marcé Society Conference to be held in Wales. We hope you will feel at home and be stimulated and inspired during the next 3 days by the eclectic mix of science, research and development. We have 16 Ambassadors on hand to help you with any questions you may have. They are all PhD students, so will be efficient and knowledgeable!! Please feel free to make use of the café facilities around the campus. The beach is across the road, so if we have good weather you might like to take a swim. The park is situated at the rear of the Taliesin. Please find the map with all the facilities on campus, enclosed in this pack.

Events On Wednesday night, ‘The Stranger In Me’ film will be shown in the Taliesin Theatre. The Conference Gala Dinner will be held in Fulton House on Thursday evening. On Friday night, The Closing Ceremony will be held in Taliesin Theatre and those who have booked excursions will visit Rhossili Bay or Oystermouth Castle afterwards.

Here are a few Welsh phrases for you to practice:

 ‘Bore da’ (pronounced - buray daaa) – “Good morning!”  ‘Diolch’ (pronounced - deeolchhh!) – “Thank you”  ‘Shymae?’ (pronounced - shoemeye) – “How are you?”  ‘Os gwelwch yn dda’ (pronounced - oss gwellwooch un thaaa) – “Please”

If you have any specific questions please contact, in the first instance, an Ambassador or Conference Organiser (identified by t-shirts!)

“Croeso I Gymru” Welcome to Wales!

With my very best wishes, Jane Hanley President of the International Marcé Society

Dr. Suomi earned his B.A. in psychology at Stanford University in 1968, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1969 and 1971, respectively. He then joined the Psychology faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he attained the rank of Professor before moving to the NICHD in 1983. Dr. Suomi’s present research at the NICHD focuses on 3 general issues: the interaction between genetic andenvironmental factors in shaping individual developmental trajectories, the issue of continuity vs. change and the relative stability of individual differences at multiple levels of analysis throughout development, and the degree to which findings from monkeys studied in captivity generalize not only to monkeys living in the wild but also to humans living in different cultures. Throughout his professional career Dr. Suomi has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, the most recent of which include the Donald O. Hebb Award and a Presidential Citation from the American Psychological Association, the Distinguished Primatologist Award from the American Society of Primatologists, and the Arnold Pffeffer Prize from the International Society of Neuropsychoanalysis. To date, he has authored or co-authored over 450 articles published in scientific journals and chapters in edited volumes.

Housekeeping

Laundrette There are two laundrettes on campus - one in Kilvey Residence and the other in Cefn Bryn Residence. The laundrette in Kilvey is open 24 hours a day. The Cefn Bryn laundrette is open from 6am until approximately 8pm. They both have coin-operated washing machines and tumble dryers – £2.00 per wash and £1 per dry. Please note you will need to supply your own washing powder. For access issues, please report to Preseli Reception desk. Any faults should be reported by using the free phone number displayed in the laundrette

Smoking Policy & Naked Flames In accordance with the National Assembly for Wales’ Smoke-free premises etc. (Wales) regulations 2007, smoking is not permitted in any enclosed or substantially enclosed public space. Smoking is not permitted in any University building, at building entrances, along the Mall or within 5 metres of any building. (The Mall begins at the west end of the Faraday Building and ends at the Abbey Building). This policy applies to staff, students and visitors. Incense, candles, or any open/naked flames are not permitted within the accommodation or anywhere on campus.

Emergency Procedures

Emergency Calls The University emergency telephone number is 333. This number is used for all emergencies on University property. Monday- Friday, 09.00-17.30, your call will be answered by the Switchboard who will contact the Emergency Services and connect your call to them, monitor your call and assist if necessary. At all other times, your call will be answered by Security in Fulton House, who will contact the appropriate Emergency Service. When you call 333, be prepared to supply information about your location and details of the emergency e.g. building, floor number, room number, fire. When you call 333, whoever answers the call will also carry out other duties to manage the emergency, such as phoning the main gate to inform staff where to direct the emergency services and contacting Occupational Health Unit. Calling 999 will mean that the University is not alerted of the emergency and therefore cannot make the necessary calls to the main gate. For this reason, we ask that you call 333 wherever possible. If this is not possible and you call 999, please ensure that a further phone call is made to Security (01792 205678) as soon as possible, to report the emergency.

Emergency Fire Procedure a) During an evacuation Fire Wardens will, without putting themselves at risk, ensure that the areas under their control have been cleared. b) Porters/security staff will attend a fire call to assist with evacuation and building security. c) A role call will be carried out by staff for the Campus Halls at night. d) Anybody who has important information regarding the fire or persons injured or trapped must report to the fire brigade on arrival. e) Building occupants may only re-enter when given permission by the fire service or the most senior University representative present. Silencing of the alarm is not an indication that building occupants are allowed to return.

39

A University Fire Action Sign is located by every manual alarm call point

IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE 1. Raise the alarm at once by breaking the glass of the nearest fire alarm call point. 2. Send the first available person to telephone 333 and give the location of the fire. 3. If appropriate, call for assistance and attack the fire with the correct extinguisher. 4. If the fire should get out of control, or your escape is threatened, leave the building at once, closing doors and windows as you go. IF YOU HEAR THE FIRE ALARM 1. Leave the building immediately, closing all doors behind you. 2. When clear of the building proceed at once to the assembly area: USE NEAREST AVAILABLE EXIT DO NOT STOP TO COLLECT PERSONAL BELONGINGS DO NOT USE LIFTS DO NOT RE-ENTER THE BUILDING
