Scope and Content of Collection This collection is comprised of 103 posters collected by Daisy Zamora, Nicaraguan Vice-Minister of Culture and the Executive Director of the Institute of Economic and Social Research of Nicaragua after the Sandinista revolution. They were produced from 1979 through the late 1980s, covering the period of the Nicaraguan Revolution (1978-1979) against the dictatorship of President Anastasio (Debayle) Somoza and the subsequent national reconstruction by the Sandinista government. They represent a wide range of themes, including literacy campaigns, commemorations of revolutionary events and heroes (Sandino, Ernesto Cardenal, Rubén Darío, Carlos Fonseca), book releases, land reform, and cultural events. The Nicaraguan agencies and organizations that created these posters include the Asociación de Mujeres Nicaraguenses Luisa Amanda Espinosa (AMNLAE, Association of Nicaraguan Women), the Asociación Sandinista de Trabajadores de la Cultura (ASTC, Association of Nicaraguan Cultural Workers), the Central Sandinista de Trabajadores (CST, Sandinista Workers' Federation), the Ministerio de Cultura (Ministry of Culture), and the Cruzada Nacional de Alfabetización (National Literacy Crusade). Others were issued by Nicaraguan presses as well as art workshops such as Editorial Nueva Nicaragua and the Taller Experimental de Grafica. A small number are from international solidarity groups and collaborative foreign agencies.
