Portia Mamolemele Tolo a cheerful , optimistic, affectionate hardworking, Photogenic and a self-driven 19 years old young female who studies Human Resources Management N5 at Nkangala TVET college. She has profound affection and determination for modelling, She Says she is a firm believer of the quote that says ''Nothing is impossible " hence she believes one of the good days she will be one of the South African's Top Models.

Things that mostly interest her are music, dancing & modelling; whenever she plays music she either dances or put on her heels and start her Catwalk.

Her Journey in modelling started by watching fashion shows, she gained interest and started applying for agencies and got approved, she was invited for a Model assessment when she got there they told her that she does not look like a model, her skin tone doesn't allow her to be a model, she should try something else perhaps acting, although her heart was broken she responded: “thank you very much” with a big smile on my face, after that model assessment she started questioning herself: “why did I even think of modelling out of all things.” But because she is self-motivated she told herself that she was destined for greatness and she care less of what people think of her and here she is today living up to that. She started entering beauty pageants, she has not won. she entered this online beauty contest "Empress South Africa " also known as Miss Eagle South Africa , She made it up to the semi-finals and she is working on moving to the next level by means of completing tasks and asking people to vote for her by sending an SMS: Portia To: 35334

Poem

*Is this how life is* Electricity black-outs scrapping lives of little ones Siblings becoming mothers and fathers at an early age will someone please respond to my question *Is this how life is* Our brothers and sisters are busy fighting for a slice of bread on top of their table, they are busy killing each other for inheritance We are playing sports they are using drugs peer pressure they commit suicide Scientists are busy inventing pills and medicines on the other hand our doctors and nurses are busy selling them just to satisfy their bellies Will someone please respond to my question *Is this how life is* Our parents are busy fighting, insulting and killing each other in front of their children They go to school to read book then boom! Boom! .. Boom! .. Out of the blue pregnancy booms at schools *Is this how life is* Poet: Lebo Mokgele Email: [email protected] Facebook: Lebo Mokgele Mokgele_poet Phone/WhatsApp: 063 417 6384

Artist Profile

UNI-BOYZ This is a story about unity, brotherhood, about four brothers who joined forces to fight against a painful reality that faces the youth in South African townships where unemployment, poverty and hopelessness are thriving. In that environment, you find them seeking change, knocking on doors for opportunities, and doing things that will make life more bearable. It's true that two brains are better than one, and in this case, four is better than two. Unity is strong because they encourage and motivate each other when things get tough. Meet Uni-Boyz SA, four highly motivated musicians from Grasmere in the Vaal. Namely, Lawrence Matewela, Christopher Fulepu, Unamandla Ngogodo and Baxolele Ndilele. The group was formed in 2012 when they had no idea what to expect. They stayed true to themselves across the years, constantly pushing themselves to do better every day. As a group they have unparalleled music skills that undeniably make them the next big thing since skinny jeans or Rooiboos tea. They‟re determined to make music that will make DJs across the world play because the crowd demands it. Uni-Boyz SA international reach is evident in the kind of deals they‟ve managed to scoop themselves. A distribution deal with Azucar Entertainment In, a New York based music publishing company, in 2015. And Soulful Horizons Inc, also based in NY. Uni-Boyz‟ versatility and ability to capture different crowds is also evident in the catalogue of people they've worked with. From far as Botswana, Zimbabwe, Northen Cape, and Cape Town. The likes of Juju Vine(BOTSWANA) on Dansa, Bernedette M(ZIMBABWE) –Famba, Fistoz Moya (CAPE TOWN) – Sundiqela,Lady Thato (NORTHEN CAPE) Amazing, MP Unit .Dumisani Shongwe(JOBURG)–Fanding Sounds, M.P Units & Uni-boyz feat. Seshaba – Change and to back home with Diller on a song titled Dirty Games by Uni-Boyz.

They have shared the stage with many established musicians such ad MPUMI the hit maker of Wena, Bozza SA, Congolis Boyz ,Drametic Boyz, DJ Thakzin, Durban Nyt, Jay Tomson ,Vukani the Hit Maker of Zulu Love Letter, Smalls the hitmaker of Money Maker, Mr Luu & MsK, Dosline(Mabala Noise), DJ Soweto, Rethabile Khumalo, De Mogul, Buffalo Souljah, Glen Lewis, Mono T and Many more. The boys have performed at numerous events and they're sure to keep the momentum going with their breath taking stage presence and kasi dance moves. SAUMA Awards (South African Upcoming Music Awards) 4th Annual 2017 experienced a blast when Uni-Boyz SA took to stage. Also catch them perform on popular new SABC 1 Drama Tjovitjo soon. They're music is inspired by real life situations, take the example of latest single Dirty Games which about a girlfriend that cheated with all your friends, a heartbreaking, yet soothing house dance song. The music has influences of Kwaito music, something they all grew up listening to. Legends like Mandla Spikiri, Skhokho and the late Brown Dash are people they look up to because they're about to resurrect kwaito music. In 2018 they join they Own record label call UNI BOYZ PTY LTD, they Became first (Artist) of they own Recoding labels 2018. They Then Release They New Single Track Titled Babakhe produced by them (Uni-boyz SA).

Ladies have your say in our next issue!

Before Africa was colonised it had one fashion – Traditional. This fashion focused on covering the vagina and the penis, leaving the breast and butt uncovered. As Someone who worked at one of the leading Café‟s in Africa I have seen a lot of women barely dressed in Sandton and it is something I got used to but I would get shocked if I saw a barely dressed woman anywhere else besides the at the club in Sandton. As a Photographer I got used to Nudity so much that some models Question my sexuality, I am a professional and I have my women who I love dearly, I am comfortable shooting nudes females, males and couple,

To all women please share your comment with us, it will be in our next issue whatsApp Monate: 0749023257

Model focus: Lisa

Elizabeth Mapule Matjila, known as Lisa, is 22 years of age (Birthday) 13 August 1996

She was born at Baragwanath hospital, grew up in Diepkloof Soweto almost all my life, at some point in my life she stayed in Hammanskraal Marokolong for two years and then came back to carry on with she studies this side.

She has also been interested in writing, whether it is poems or life experiences. She was not always a great singer but she still wrote, 2013 was the year she started writing songs.

Lisa talks about her Modelling Career: What inspired me to do modelling? When I was young I used to attend at Barona child care centre where they'd always involve children in activity, for most my years there, when other kids took part in Beauty pageant I was either I too young or weight too much to take part so they wouldn't let me. I found things to keep me busy, I was involved in traditional dancing but I wasn't much of a dancer, I also tried singing. I graduated and left. I started playing netball and it became my favourite sport till now. I played netball all my school years and paused when I was busy with my matric. When I finished school in 2015 I saw an article on a newspaper where they held an audition for people wanting to take part in beauty pageants. I went and Mr Fisher welcomed me and told me when to come for a walk and pose practice. When we were practicing with Mr Fisher, he taught us that we are team and we need to stand for one another. We also learned about women being independent and able to take care of themselves, the importance of hygiene and being well mannered. We competed with other nations (it was international) Out of all their competitions I went home the third princess (as for their winning prices they were amazing) As time went I started to see that there was more than just a beauty pageant, I got engaged in fashion shows. I attended one in Eldorado where I met new happy souls and got more and more opportunities, met fashion designers who did super cool clothing. I attended Victoria yards every first Sunday of the month Runway show, we advertised our clothes and showed that we are proudly African in our traditional clothing, tourists took pictures of us and every Sunday we got to wear 1 item of a different designer‟s clothing. Because of the modelling career I was called to take part in the Amanda black ft Lasauce‟s music video I was also in: The Maphanda Lava Gusheshe music video. The Lwazzy Mbala dance music video.

I did acting too:

She was invited to be in a music video where she met Dash the artist, with everything that they were busy with, she saw a dedicated hardworking team that she want to involve herself with, she made time to show Dash her written songs which he liked and wanted a collaboration with her, they worked on a song, during that time she meet PMT a house beatmaker who wanted to work with them.

PMT make beats for her then she writes ,so far they have worked on two songs in which they'll be ready for public soon, she believe and they are still going to work on more songs, so stay tuned. Lisa‟s Plans for this year is to work on many tracks as possible and to send out a message to the people about her life experiences.

Who is Ofentse? Ofentse Fefe Pitso is a young lady from Soweto and a proud Sowetan. She is a Conquer, She empowers, She is Fearless and She Inspires. She is a founder of a Non-profit organisation that helps girls with self-confidence, self- esteem, self-image and self-love.

When and how did you start modelling? I fell in love with Modelling when I used to accompany my sister to her Modelling classes. She introduced me to Modelling at the age of 7 years but was never exposed much to the industry because my parents didn't understand it. When I was in grade 8, I started checking out castings on newspapers to see agencies looking for models. I got in the industry when I was in grade 9, when I did my first photoshoot , I was now a normal child and could smile again. I grew up having funny teeth and that contributed to me being rejected and also growing with low self-esteem.

What do you think about beauty pageants? I honestly think beauty pageants have helped many girls to grow up into being confident leaders. I love how they transform one's personality. I also love the fact that they now focusing on the inner being of a person and not only the outer being, I mean they now focusing on different attributes of a person and not only their beauty. Beauty pageants are now about building community leaders and not only building a person to being beautiful and not bringing change to the community. Beauty queens contribute a lot of change to the communities. They help groom young girls on how to behave and they also prepare people for the real world.

We always hear about human trafficking, do you know anyone who went missing? I do not know anyone who went missing due to human trafficking. What other jobs does modelling prepare you for? In your own opinion [06/30, 21:27] My Number: They prepare one not to be shy, meaning that you are always ready for any interview you come to. Modelling prepares one to be business orientated.

Can anyone become a model? If yes what should they have? Yes, anyone can be a model. There are different types of models needed in the industry. You just have to appreciate who you are and how you to make it in the industry. Modelling is not about being pretty, being petite, having a flat tummy and also looking beautiful, it actually caters for different things. She is passionate about community outreaches and helping people, doesn't do it for recognition but from the goodness of her heart. Ofentse is a leader, public relations student & a model. I am a girl with many hidden talents.

For women who want to be a model but don’t know where to start, can you give them advise? There are different Modelling Agencies in SA and they all want different things and have different requirements. Just do proper researches and ask around about the agency you are about to sign in. Camera should be your friend, it will prepare you to being comfortable to taking pictures. Use different photographers to get comfortable to being taken pictures by different people.
