Big Dance kicks off on the 20 May with the Big Dance Pledge and the launch of the Big Dance Bus Tour. The Festival Week takes place from 2-10 July 2016. Find out more at london.gov.uk/bigdance Welcome to the Wandsworth Arts Fringe 2016 Programme In May this year Wandsworth’s nooks and crannies are going to be filled with some of the most exciting and dynamic live arts events. You could find yourself in a Russian summer house in The Bedford pub, watching a medieval puppet show in Heathbrook Park or on a Midnight Run through Nine Elms. Whether you enjoy street performances, family workshops, exhibitions, music or dance, there is something for everyone. This brochure and the wandsworthfringe.com website offer an easy way to see what is on, when and where it’s on, and includes info and links to book tickets. You’ll find many of the events are free to attend although booking is advised. New and often experimental work is shown in a huge variety of indoor and outdoor venues during the Fringe - it’s a special time to get out and try something new. Many of the events are drop in and accessible. We are particularly proud to have BSL interpreted performances this year. We encourage you to choose an event or performance you haven’t heard of before in a new venue you haven’t visited. Experience energetic, contemporary creativity in places you wouldn’t expect.     Introduction to Ecovenue Ecovenue is a signifi cant theatre-specifi c environmental project being run by The Theatres Trust. It aims to improve the environmental performance of forty-eight London theatres and raise awareness of how to make theatres greener. Ecovenue is promoting the sustainability of theatres and the reduction of carbon emissions through the provision of free theatre-specifi c, environmental advice. The project started in 2009 and runs until 2012. Forty-eight venues each undergo an Environmental Audit, and receive a Display Energy Certifi cate (DEC) and Advisory Report. They track their energy use through SMEasure. Each venue receives a second DEC a year after their fi rst to measure progress. Ecovenue includes a ‘DEC Pool’ of performing arts venues across the UK that have obtained DECs. The DEC Pool helps us to evaluate the project and share best practice and information, establish meaningful benchmarks, and provide a better understanding of energy use of theatres. Any theatre can join the DEC Pool. The Trust’s Theatres Magazine provides quarterly reports on the participants and the work of the Ecovenue project. The Theatres Trust Ecovenue project receives fi nancial support from the European Regional Development Fund. They aren’t the same as the things they represent.” Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Nanking massacre, as well as the first production at the Finborough Theatre building in its 150th anniversary year, the European premiere of Into the Numbers by multi-award-winning American playwright Christopher Chen opens at the Finborough Theatre for a four week limited season on Tuesday, 2 January 2018 (Press Nights: Thursday 4 and Friday 5 January 2018 at 7.30pm). In December 1937, in Nanking, then capital of China, occurred one of the worst atrocities of the 20th century – the rape, torture and murder of 300,000 Chinese civilians and the systematic mass execution of soldiers by the Japanese army. In 2004, Iris Chang, famed author of The Rape of Nanking, a chronicle of the massacre that brought it back into public consciousness, committed suicide at the age of 36. What begins as a standard lecture and interview with the celebrated author, soon descends into a surreal nightmare. As ghosts from her research appear, she tries desperately to find order in the midst of mental chaos. Into the Numbers by the Obie Award and Dramatist Guild’s Lanford Wilson Award winning playwright Christopher Chen, is a thrillingly innovative theatrical exploration of the philosophical and psychological implications of researching genocide, as well as the toll media saturation plays in the process.

NYMT’S 2021 SEASON Established in 1976 by Jeremy James Taylor, NYMT’s productions have been seen throughout the UK and abroad. From its first show, The Ballad of Salomon Pavey, at the Edinburgh Fringe (subsequently part of Her Majesty’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in London) the company’s work has toured to Canada, Greece, Hong Kong, Japan, Norway, Taiwan and the United States winning numerous accolades and awards. The company featured prominently at the Edinburgh Festival in the mid-1980s, premièring shows such as Richard Stilgoe’s Bodywork, highlighting NYMT’s commitment to developing new work. This has continued to this day with premières of The Kissing Dance and the dreaming by Howard Goodall and Charles Hart, Orvin by Alan Ayckbourn and Creation by Richard Taylor. In 2009 the NYMT were the first to produce a musical at Hull Truck’s brand new theatre with Melvyn Bragg’s and Howard Goodall’s The Hired Man. 2010 began with Jeremy James Taylor being awarded an OBE in recognition of his many years’ service to young people and the theatre. Then, to mark Sondheim’s 80th birthday, NYMT took his thriller, Sweeney Todd, out of the theatre and into a converted Victorian warehouse in London’s East End.
