Standard Dress Diving Course 2019 PROFESSIONAL DIVING SERVICES 14 Townsend Street, Portland Vic 3305 NAUI Instructor: Frank Zeigler Assistant Instructor: Steve Taylor Administrator: Tel: 0355236 392 Email: [email protected] COURSE INFORMATION Professional Diving Services have the following three (3) helmet diver speciality courses approved by N.A.U.I.: Standard Dress Experience, Standard Dress Diver and Advanced Standard Dress Diver. The course being offered for June 2019 is the NAUI Standard Dress Diver Course to all certified divers of any level. Family members are welcome to come along and observe. Please indicate numbers for catering purposes. The course will be conducted on the Queen’s Birthday holiday weekend; 8th, 9th and 10th of June 2019. *Monday the 10th is a half day to enable course participants to travel back home as the case may be. The cost of the course is $475.00 for current HDS Aus-Pac members. For non-HDS members the course cost is $525, which includes a one-year HDS membership joining fee. Please see http://www.classicdiver.org for more information about this organisation. All standard dress equipment will be provided to participants during the course. You may be required to provide your diving qualification as acceptance to this course is for qualified divers of any level. A completed Application Form with a non-refundable deposit of $250.00 must be submitted to Professional Diving Services to confirm your booking before 1st May 2019. Places are limited. Full payment of the course is due and payable on Friday 17th May 2019. Any cancellations after 24th May 2019 will not be entitled to any partial refund. TENTATIVE SCHEDULE Friday 7th June 530pm – 700pm Casual meet and greet mixer at Professional Diving Services. Saturday 8th June 8am – 5pm Class room instruction and dry diving. Saturday 8th June 700pm Group booking for tea at local pub (your own expense). Sunday 9th June Standard Dress Diving from Jetty Landing and Professional Diving Services’ 8am – 5pm ‘Black Pearl’ barge. Sunday 9th June Group BBQ tea at Professional Diving Services; BYO Drinks. Family and 6pm friends are welcome for a cost of $10.00 adult; $5.00 child. Monday 10th June Standard Dress Diving from Professional Diving Services’ ‘Black Pearl’ barge 8am – 12pm (where required). Standard Dress Diving Course 2019 Participants will learn the skills and knowledge to carry out the duties of a standard dress diver, diving tender and supervisor. Safety divers will be in attendance at all times whilst participants are diving. A training booklet and checklists will be provided to all participants. The booklet contains information on how to obtain, maintain and dive standard dress diving equipment so that participants can safely put their own standard dress equipment together. Participants should book accommodation as early as possible (see suggested accom. list below) as it is a holiday weekend; please plan to arrive in Portland on Friday June 7th, our ‘meet and greet’ social starts at 5:30pm until 7:00pm. Formal Classroom instruction will begin Saturday morning at 8am and we aim to be completed no later than 12pm on Monday June 10th. Please bring lots of warm clothes such as thermals, hats, gloves, scarves, coats, flannels etc. Portland’s weather at this time of the year can be cold, windy and rainy. The course is not weather dependent as we dive in the shelter of the harbour. Divers may bring photography equipment for personal pictures on the surface and underwater. N.A.U.I. certification cards and certificates are issued after participants successful completion of the course. The certifications will be mailed to you. Portland is in a very scenic area of Victoria, with historical locations nearby and walking tracks. It is a great place to visit anytime. It is located on the south-west coast, approximately four hours drive from Melbourne.     Commercial Diving Physical Examination To the Applicant / Student: Attached are the forms and instructions for a commercial diving physical examination. One of the most important requirements for acceptance as a student in the Professional Certificate in Marine Technology at National University and to become a commercial diver is a thorough physical examination in accordance with Association of Diving Contractors International standards. As a commercial diver, it is a personal responsibility to always have a current physical exam. A current physical exam must have been completed within the last year and there must be no physical maladies which would preclude you from diving or making hyperbaric exposures. Although the commercial diving physical examination can be done by any licensed physician; it is always best to have the physical examination done by a physician who is trained in diving medicine or hyperbaric medicine. Attached is a list of physicians in Los Angeles and San Diego who are approved to conduct diving examinations. You must have the physical examination completed including the laboratory testing (which can take several weeks) prior to the beginning of the program. The cost of the examination can vary and supporting laboratory fees can range from $275 to $600 dollars or more depending on if the physician finds the need to run additional tests. You are personally required to provide the following forms completed and signed by the doctor: The attached National University Polytechnic Institute letter stating that you have passed the physical examination and are cleared for work as a diver and for hyperbaric exposures. The attached ADCI form (Medical History and Physical Examination) completed and signed by yourself and the physician.

If you care about comfort while diving, you want to dive longer and deeper, primarily derive from unlimited pleasure of being under water – bet on the drysuit. Drysuits have become increasingly popular among divers. Technical divers that often do wreck or technical diving, long and in colder waters know this perfectly well. Those who dive less often, they prefer the shorter diving in warmer waters are also increasingly inclined to opt for drysuits. Why? Because they give amazing comfort under water - we are dry, warm and comfortable. There are more benefits of their use. Drysuit insulates virtually 100% the diver’s body from the water.
