2018-07-03 RYE HOUSE ROCKETS 2016 LEAGUE FINISHED 9th OF 13 TEAMS, K.O.CUP LOST TO NEWCASTLE IN THE SEMI FINALS MATCH REPORTS REPRODUCED WITH KIND PERMISSION OF THE SPEEDWAY STAR Special Thanks to Pete Hill and Ken Burnett for their help with this file Data Source - Speedway Star / Programmes / Speedway Researcher VENUE RYE HOUSE STADIUM COMPETITION LEAGUE CUP RYE HOUSE 50.0 40.0 PLYMOUTH DATE: 19/03/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE The new era at Rye House started on a high note as the BMR Rockets overcame a stubborn Devils outfit. Ironically though it was a glimpse of the past that ultimately separated the two teams with Stuart Robson rolling back the clock to Hoddesdon’s glory years with a 15 point maximum. Robson received solid support from skipper Eddie Kennett while both Cameron Heeps and Leigh Lanham made impressive debuts. It wasn’t until Heat 5 that the visitors provided a heat winner Charlie Gjedde holding off Lanham to make sure Plymouth didn’t fall further than six points behind. The Devils did narrow the gap in Heat 8 thanks to Simota and Nielsen but the Rockets immediately struck back in the next race as Heeps and Lanham outpaced Newman. With Jack Holder overcoming a sluggish start it looked as if we might be in for a tight finish but Kennett and Robson had other ideas. The Rockets skipper taking Gjedde wide on the first bend allowing Robson to execute a perfect cut back up the inside of the Dane in Heat 13.
