RYE HOUSE 50.0 40.0 PLYMOUTH DATE: 19/03/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE The new era at Rye House started on a high note as the BMR Rockets overcame a stubborn Devils outfit. Ironically though it was a glimpse of the past that ultimately separated the two teams with Stuart Robson rolling back the clock to Hoddesdon’s glory years with a 15 point maximum. Robson received solid support from skipper Eddie Kennett while both Cameron Heeps and Leigh Lanham made impressive debuts. It wasn’t until Heat 5 that the visitors provided a heat winner Charlie Gjedde holding off Lanham to make sure Plymouth didn’t fall further than six points behind. The Devils did narrow the gap in Heat 8 thanks to Simota and Nielsen but the Rockets immediately struck back in the next race as Heeps and Lanham outpaced Newman. With Jack Holder overcoming a sluggish start it looked as if we might be in for a tight finish but Kennett and Robson had other ideas. The Rockets skipper taking Gjedde wide on the first bend allowing Robson to execute a perfect cut back up the inside of the Dane in Heat 13. The pair frustrating the Devils again in the final race Kennett cutting inside Gjedde to back up his maximum bound partner

SOMERSET 49.0 40.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 25/03/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE Somerset's opening night victory was far more comfortable than the final score line might suggest. Rebels started off like the proverbial runaway train, to the extent that at the two-thirds stage of proceedings they had opened up a 20-point lead and a big win looked very much on the cards. Up until that point, the Rebels had totally dominated affaires, Josh Grajczonek looking imperious with three straight wins, while Charles Wright and Rohan Tungate had two wins to their name. With Jake Allen making a remarkable comeback from his horrendous-looking fall the previous week to post a paid 10 return, Rye House were very much reduced to the role of second fiddle. But one race, Heat 13, brought the Rockets right back into things. With the original staging of the race looking to have settled into a share of the spoils with leading the Somerset duo of Grajczonek and Tungate, Grajczonek came to grief on the pits bend, earning himself an exclusion from the re-run. And things got no better for the Rebels in the re-run with Tungate stranded on the start-line as his engine gave way on him, to leave Kennett and Stuart Robson to cruise around for an unopposed 5-0. Going into the last heat the Rebels still held a 13-point lead, and it was to provide the race of the night, though not the outcome the Somerset fans had hoped for. After Robson, Tungate and Wright had swapped the lead for fun over the opening laps, Kennett pounced on a slight mistake by Wright on the third lap to move through to third place. Then, going into the final turn, he not only made a pass on Tungate to take second spot, but cleverly made sure the Somerset new boy had no chance of repaying the compliment, the race itself being a fitting end to what had been a highly entertaining meeting.

RYE HOUSE 46.0 43.0 SOMERSET DATE: 03/04/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE If this one was anything to go by the fans in East Hertfordshire will be in for a treat this season at the revamped Hoddesdon raceway. Some excellent racing, on a well prepared surface, a home hero and a result that went right to the wire proving the recipe for an exciting afternoon. The Rockets made the perfect start Eddie Kennett on his way to a 15 point maximum proving too sharp from the gate and Kasper Lykke cutting inside Josh Grajczonek and Jake Allen to record an opening 5-1. The Rebels though recovered immediately and with Charles Wright, Rohan Tungate and Bradley Wilson-Dean looking in fine form took four of the opening five heats. With the Rockets six points adrift after Heat 7 the tide began to turn in a dramatic Heat 8. Seemingly on his way to stretching the visitors lead Allen fell on the fourth bend his machine then taking on a life of its own causing team mate Wilson-Dean to come down. Shaken but not stirred the New Zealander then clashed with Ben Morley on the third bend of the re-start the Rockets man being excluded by referee Dale Entwistle. Lykke finally brought the heat to its conclusion cutting under Wilson -Dean to trim a point off the Rebels lead. That seemed to inspire the home side as the visitors failed to take another heat advantage. A 4-2 from Stuart Robson and Peter Karger in Heat 11 brought the lead down to three but after Tungate and Grajczonek had ensured a share of the points behind the fast starting Kennett in Heat 13 it looked as if the Rockets chance may have gone. Leigh Lanham though had other ideas making up for a slow start to the meeting the evergreen 38 year old powered away from Starke in the penultimate heat, Karger shutting out the disappointing to leave the Rockets a point adrift going into the final race. Kennett and Robson making no mistake with a superbly executed first two bends to delight the home fans and earn the skipper the bumps at the pit gate.

RYE HOUSE 53.0 39.0 IPSWICH DATE: 09/04/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE The Team BMR Rockets made the perfect start to their Premier League campaign with a comfortable win over close rivals Ipswich. From the moment Eddie Kennett hit the front in Heat 1 there was really only one team in it. The Rockets skipper took his run of consecutive heat victories around his home track to nine recording his second maximum of the week in front of the jubilant fans. In contrast the Witches night was summed up by the sight of their skipper Danny King ploughing through the tapes in Heat 13. To be fair the contest was over by then with Leigh Lanham and Stuart Robson continuing to roll back the years and Cameron Heeps enjoying a meeting with his old team the home side were always too strong for disappointing opponents. The lively Nico Covatti did his best to keep the Witches in the contest only beaten by Kennett on two occasions the first when he was introduced for double points as early as Heat 6. Lanham’s victory over the chasing King with Heeps showing plenty of determination to pip Sarjeant on the line had already taken the lead into double figures by the conclusion of Heat 5. Robson’s battle with Risager in Heat 7 proved one of the highlights of the night the experienced Rocket using his in depth knowledge of the Hoddesdon circuit to finally see off the challenge of the chasing Dane. The damage for the visitors looked as if it could be worse when a 4-2 from Kennett and Robson finishing either side of Covatti in Heat 13 stretched the lead to 18 points. Lanham’s second win of the night over Risager in the next race kept the Rockets advantage until Covatti and King finally gave the visiting fans something to cheer with a 5-1 in Heat 15. That though couldn’t take the shine off an excellent evening for the Team BMR Rockets.

PLYMOUTH 41.0 51.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 15/04/2016 RESULT: AWAY WIN AGREGATE SCORE From the Plymouth viewpoint, the success story was the fact that the Devils were back on track after their temporary closure with the result of the match being of secondary importance. The lack of action for most of the Plymouth riders was soon apparent as Rye House were sharper out of the starts, and it was some consolation for the Devils that they kept the scores tight with they went into the final three heats. Visiting No.1 Edward Kennett again showed his liking for the St. Boniface Arena as he powered to a 15-point maximum, and his five heat wins helped the Rockets to dominate the first places by a margin of 11 to four. Plymouth did not have the best of luck in the third heat when Todd Kurtz and Holder were on their way to a 5-1 against Leigh Lanham and Cameron Heeps only for Kurtz to blow an engine while in the lead. It was not until Heat 11 that Rye House managed to establish a ten-point lead but Plymouth responded in the next heat, which needed three attempts to run and finished with two riders. Stefan Nielsen was excluded at the first time of asking for bringing down Peter Karger, who was then ruled out following a fall involving team- mate Heeps at the second attempt. So Plymouth ended with a 6-2 after holder, who was on a tactical ride, finished ahead of Heeps.

RYE HOUSE 42.0 48.0 PETERBOROUGH DATE: 16/04/2016 RESULT: AWAY WIN AGREGATE SCORE Twelve months ago a last heat 5-1 gave the Panthers victory over a Rockets side that had held a four point lead with four heats left. On Saturday history repeated itself after a pulsating encounter in Hoddesdon. As Rockets fans had feared Nicolaj Busk Jakobsen returned to haunt his old team by top scoring with 13 points, the fast starting Emil Grondal and the consistent Ulrich Ostergaard providing plenty of back up. The home side were left wondering how they’d let this one slip away after cancelling out the Panthers early advantage to establish a 29- 25 lead by Heat 10. It was a Heat 12 maximum from Jakobsen and Grondal that set up the Panthers victory the pair shutting out Cameron Heeps on a tight first bend to level the scores. The action was fast and furious on a track that had done well to survive the rain that had fallen in East Hertfordshire for much of the day. Ostergaard produced the perfect start to the evening lowering Eddie Kennett’s colours for the first time in 17 heats. The Rockets needed a bit of luck to stay in the contest Niklas Porsing suffering an engine failure when he was leading Robson and Morley in Heat 4. There was certainly nothing lucky about Kennett’s brilliant charge off the fourth bend to pip Jakobsen right on the line in Heat 10. At that stage with a four point lead the home fans were quietly confident of another close victory. A classic Heat 13 which saw Robson and Ostergaard exchanging places at will before Kennett swooped past the pair to take the win kept the Rockets narrowly in front. But in the end the night belonged to the Panthers as Grondal combined with the out of sorts Michael Palm Toft to shut out Lanham in the penultimate race putting the visitors back in to the lead. Needing an advantage in Heat 15 to maintain their unbeaten home record the Rockets pairing of Kennett and Robson for once came off worst in a tight first bend to leave Jakobsen and Ostergaard to sew up victory for the Panthers in front of the delighted traveling fans.

It proved to be the correct decision as the wet stuff arrived on schedule and would have made racing impossible. The meeting has been rearranged for May 19.

RYE HOUSE 45.0 45.0 WORKINGTON DATE: 02/05/2016 RESULT: DRAW AGREGATE SCORE The result may have been disappointing for the home crowd but once again there was no doubting the quality of the entertainment on show as the Rockets and Comets slugged it out to the end. The visitors proved much the sharper in the opening exchanges finding the slick surface to their liking, two maximums in the opening seven Heats giving them an eight point advantage. It took a 5-1 for Kasper Lykke and Ben Morley over the chasing Rasmus Jensen in Heat 8 to spring the home side into action. A 4-2 in the next race from Cameron Heeps and Leigh Lanham cutting the deficit to just two points. There were a few contenders for race of the afternoon but for sheer endeavour the battle between Lykke and Kenneth Hansen in Heat 10 will take some beating. The two Danes changed places at will behind the fast starting Eddie Kennett before Lykke finally edged ahead to take the Rockets into the lead for the first time in the meeting. With the crowd just getting their breath back Heat 11 proved equally as dramatic with Jensen splitting the Rockets coming out of the second bend before Robson uncharacteristically fell on the final lap gifting the visitors their third maximum of the day. There was more misery for the home fans in the next race as former Rocket burst into life joining Hansen in establishing a six point lead for the visitors with only three heats remaining. If the home side looked to be slipping to their second straight home defeat though the experienced duo of Robson and Kennett had other ideas. Kennett taking Heat 13 with ease with Robson just failing to hold back the charging Wells. After a shared penultimate race the Rockets were left needing a last heat maximum to share the spoils. Kennett once again made the gate on his way to his fourth maximum of the young season with Robson this time using all his knowledge of the Hoddesdon circuit to hold off the challenge of Wells. It was fitting in the end that both teams got the chance to do a track walk after providing the perfect advert for Premier League speedway.

IPSWICH 46.0 44.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 12/05/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE Rye House have a patchy overall record at Foxhall Stadium but they put themselves in the driving seat for an aggregate victory by taking full advantage of Ipswich inadequacies. Edward Kennett was head and shoulders above any home rider and he received enough support from the rest of his side, particularly Ben Morley, to possibly end Witches' hopes of any 2016 silverware even at this early stage of the season. Already out of the League Cup and with three hefty league losses - including a 53-39 trouncing at Hoddesdon - Ipswich are in danger of having just pride to ride for in the last five months of the campaign. It looked promising when a 5-1 from James Sarjeant and Paco Castagna in Heat 8 lead to an increase in tempo and a 10-point lead after 10 races. But the visitors rocketed out of the gate in the final two heats with only a last ditch pass by on Leigh Lanham in Heat 14 preventing the meeting ending in a draw. Sarjeant and enjoyed three wins each and Nico Covatti notched double figures, but this was negated by an off night for skipper Danny King and two home reserves being outscored by Rockets' No.7 Morley. Former Witch Cameron Heeps fell foul of the referee when he took advantage of a mistake by Kerr on the third lap of Heat 3 to take the lead, only to lock-up on the next two bends causing Kerr to fall and Risager to go to the front. The lively Kasper Lykke comfortably passed Kerr for third place on the second circuit of Heat 5 before, in the next race, King tumbled when following Sarjeant on the last lap, but had enough time to re-mount and finish ahead of the outclassed Peter Karger. Home supporters were on their feet after Heat 8 with Castagna re-passing Lykke in style after the Rye House mad had briefly taken second place behind Sarjeant on the second lap. But their joy was short-lived and the meeting ended with Rye House in charge of the tie after another disappointing Witches display.

RYE HOUSE 53.0 37.0 IPSWICH DATE: 14/05/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE 97.0 83.0 The Team BMR Rockets eased into the quarter finals with a comfortable victory over local rivals Ipswich. Arriving home with a two point deficit to make up after the first leg at Foxhall Heath the meeting still looked finely balanced but from the moment the Rockets wiped out the Witches slim advantage in Heat 1 the result of the contest was never really in doubt. Edward Kennett continued to be the ultimate thorn in the side of the visitors stretching his unbeaten run against them to 23 heats on his way to his sixth maximum of the season. The skipper was never troubled getting plenty of support from a top five who all played their part. Cameron Heeps and Leigh Lanham revelled in putting one over on their old team the former setting the fastest time of the night in Heat 7 and the latter punching the air when crossing the line in Heat 14. By then the damage had been done and Ipswich were left to reflect on a night when everything that could go wrong did. James Sarjeant’s failure to make the two minute time allowance in the opening race was a sign of what was to come. Danyon Hume ploughing through the tapes in Heat 2 before Nico Covatti’s fall in Heat 6 left Paco Castagna watching Kennett and Kasper Lykke disappear over the horizon in the re-run. Lykke had his best night of the season so far, the young Dane who had struggled in the opening weeks delighted the fans with a series of classy overtaking moves that fully justified his inclusion in Heat 15. The lively Morten Risager and the hard working Castagna apart Ipswich gave their traveling support little to get excited about, Heeps second place in Heat 12 ensuring the Rockets could look forward to a tie with Berwick in the next round.

RYE HOUSE 47.0 42.0 EDINBURGH DATE: 22/05/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE The Team BMR Rockets first home win over the Monarchs in 4 years came at a cost as they lost the experienced Leigh Lanham to concussion after an horrific Heat 14 pile up. Nine points in front at the time Lanham locked onto team mate Peter Karger as Jay Etheridge squeezed the field out from the inside gate throwing both Rockets into the air fence. Obviously shaken the home side limped over the line after that with Sam Masters and Kevin Wolbert earning Edinburgh a match point with a final heat maximum. The evening had started in controversial style with Masters and Edward Kennett clashing on the opening bend of Heat 1 the Rockets skipper being pushed to the fence and left appealing for a restart that didn’t come. A 5-1 from Cameron Heeps and Lanham over the chasing Wolbert in Heat 3 took the home side into a lead they maintained for the rest of the meeting. The Monarchs had some determined riding by Erik Riss on his first visit to Rye House and country man Wolbert to thank as they only trailed by two with five races left. What happened next nobody could predict as Peter Karger flew out of the favoured gate 4 to head the chasing Masters for four memorable laps, the young Danes first win in British speedway being greeted by Hoddesdon’s biggest cheer of the season. Ben Morley on his way to a top score of paid 11 took up where his reserve partner left off heading Heeps and Wolbert in the next race to take the home side seven up with three heats left. A 4-2 from Kennett and Robson in Heat 13 stretched the lead further before Morley won the re-start of Heat 14 to set up a last heat decider for the extra race point.

RYE HOUSE 55.0 37.0 REDCAR DATE: 30/05/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE A comfortable victory for the Team BMR Rockets although the score line wasn’t representative of an entertaining encounter in which the Bears played their full part. Both Jonas B Andersen on his first visit to Hoddesdon and David Bellego did their best to keep the visitors in the contest but in the end it was the Rockets strength in depth that secured the league points. The reserve pairings pro-provided the biggest contrast with Rob Branford making his first Premier League appearance of the season and the ever improving Ben Morley providing paid 17 points between them while Lee Payne and guest Dan Bewley could manage only four. Cameron Heeps was the pick of the home riders his perfectly timed pass of the fast starting Jacob Buckhave providing one of many high-lights. The young Australian who had made an inconsistent start to his Rockets career was only beaten in Heat 14 as the lively Andersen came from behind after a sluggish gate. By then the league points were safely in the bag for the Rockets, six points up after seven heats it was a Heat 8 5-1 from the hardworking Morley and Kasper Lykke that broke the visitors resolve. Team Man-ager Brian Havelock’s immediate reaction to send out Bellego for double points in Heat 9 meeting stubborn resistance. For once the Frenchman failed to make the gate and despite reeling in Morley he left himself too much to do to overcome Heeps. It was the Heeps, Morley pairing who combined again to put the contest beyond the Bears reach by outpacing Lee Payne after Hugh Skidmore had fallen in Heat 12. Bellego and Andersen continued to provide plenty of entertainment in the remaining heats. Bellego fighting his way round Robson in Heat 13 while Andersen finally won a terrific scrap with the same Rocket in the final race.

RYE HOUSE 45.0 45.0 BERWICK DATE: 04/06/2016 RESULT: DRAW AGREGATE SCORE The Rockets and the Bandits served up the perfect advert for Premier League speedway leaving both sets of fans with plenty of reasons to be cheerful. Never separated by more than four points the first draw between the teams in 38 years was a fitting end to a night that offered just about everything. The Bandits arrived from an impressive win at Scunthorpe and strengthened by the inclusion of track specialists Michael Palm-Toft and former Rocket it was clear that they meant business from the outset. The visitors solid display that saw six different heat winners was matched by an outstanding performance by home favourite Kasper Lykke. Dropped to a reserve berth after an uncertain start to the campaign Lykke lit up proceedings with a series of classic overtaking moves. Recovering from an early fall in Heat 2 the young Dane went from last to second in Heat 6 to back up his skipper for the first home maximum of the meeting. Lykke repeated the exercise in Heat 10 sprinting past Kevin Doolan and Matt Wethers in the space of two bends. That levelled the scores again after the fast starting Jorgensen and Bowen had outpaced Leigh Lanham in the previous race. Heat 13 looked to have turned things in the visitors favour with Kennett taking the wrong line on the first bend leaving Palm-Toft and Jorgensen in control. The Rockets though were presented with a get out of jail free card when Jorgensen’s bike shed a chain going into the last lap leaving him steaming on the centre green. Lykke produced more heroics in the penultimate race this time chasing down Bowen to leave the home side two points in front going into Heat 15. When Kennett was ridden out of contention on the opening bend the Berwick fans began dreaming of another away win but Lykke had other ideas. Overcoming Palm-Toft he was stuck to Jorgensen for two laps just failing to catch the flying Bandit by a matter of inches on the line.

RYE HOUSE 48.0 42.0 NEWCASTLE DATE: 11/06/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE The fans in East Hertfordshire have been spoilt so far this season as the redesigned Hoddesdon raceway continues to produce some excellent speedway. Both sides played their full part in another memorable night which saw the Team BMR Rockets just edge out the Diamonds thanks to a solid team performance. With nine race wins the Diamonds could be forgiven for being a little hard done by but it was their lack of support for Robert Lambert, and Matej Kus that ultimately cost them. Lambert who set the track record appearing against his current team last season meant business from the off, diving inside Edward Kennett on the final lap of Heat 1. After the teams traded 5-1’s it was an epic Heat 6 that established a home advantage that the visitors never quite managed to close. With Worrall and Kennett warned for rolling at the start followed by an exclusion for Lewis Rose after a clash with Ben Morley, the latter then failing to make the two minute allowance after appearing without his steel shoe fans were left wondering if Heat 7 would ever arrive. Before it did though Kennett made a blistering start from gate two joined by his partner Kasper Lykke to see off the challenge of Worrall. The pair repeated their success in Heat 10 opening up a six point lead. The Diamonds hit back in Heat 12 as Kus made the gate and Rose slipped inside Ben Morley to set up a tense finish. Heat 13 saw Kennett get the better of Lambert on a no holds barred first bend before Leigh Lanham produced the ride of the night in the penultimate race. Backed up by his partner Lykke the 39 year old used all his nerve and experience to see off the challenge of the charging Lindgren. Kennett rounded off proceeding with another win over Lambert in Heat 15, Worralls third place meaning that Newcastle didn’t go home empty handed.

The scores were locked together at 6-6 when the meeting was brought to an end. had won the first race, which only featured three riders when Edward Kennett failed to arrive at the tapes, Auty making the best start from gate for, with new signing Lewis Kerr in third. The second heat saw Ben Morley just get ahead of Carl Wilkinson, who although close just could not find a way past, while Josh Bailey retired at the back. The riders did appear for the third heat but were sent back to the pits before referee Jim McGregor announced that the meeting was cancelled.

SOMERSET 55.0 38.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 24/06/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE Somerset maintained their unbeaten Premier League record with a regulation win over Rye House, the Rebels being far too hot for the Rockets, Edward Kennett apart, to handle. With it being some three weeks since the Rebels last rode at home, one could forgive them if they were a little race-rusty to start with, but nothing could have been further from the truth as the home riders set about their task in determined fashion. Such was Somerset's early meeting dominance, they had Rye House reaching for the black and white helmet colour as early as Heat 5. The move was only a partial success as Kennett took the race win for the visitors, but received no support from race-partner Peter Karger, and the additional three points gained by the Rye House captain were a mere blip on Somerset's relentless march to victory. There was a nasty-looking fall for Somerset's Jake Allen in Heat 11 when he, Rohan Tungate and Kennett all arrived at the same piece of the opening turn at the same time. But he was quickly to his feet, and obviously felt no ill-effects from his 'off' as he the proceeded to win his next two outings. Cameron Heeps also made a closer than wanted inspection of the Oaktree Arena track in Heat 7 when coming to grief on the final lap while he an Leigh Lanham were trying to trying to keep Jake Allen at the back, but again, after some on-track attention, he was able to get to his feet, albeit gingerly, and walk back to the pits. Despite the apparent Somerset dominance, there was plenty of good racing, with riders passing and re-passing each other in a number of races, but it was generally the home riders who came out on top of any such tussles.

RYE HOUSE 35.0 25.0 PLYMOUTH DATE: 25/06/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE With rain in the air for most of the day the track staff did an excellent job allowing this one to start at all. The going was heavy from the off but both teams still managed to provide some entertainment for the crowd who spent much of their time looking at the gathering clouds. The Team BMR Rockets produced a solid performance in the circumstances with skipper Eddie Kennett remaining unbeaten and Cameron Heeps amazingly equalling the third fastest time of the season in Heat 9 despite the falling rain. It was a maximum from Ben Morley and Kasper Lykke in Heat 2 that took the home side into a lead they never surrendered. In fact at one stage it looked as if they might run away with the contest as a further maximum from the impressive Heeps and Leigh Lanham opened up a 10 point advantage by Heat 6. The following race provided one of the major talking points of the night as Stuart Robson and Jack Holder clashed on the second bend, Robson going down just before the air fence ran out. Much to the annoyance of the home crowd it was their man who was excluded as the race was awarded as a 5-1 for the Devils. Heat 8 saw the visitors edge even closer after Peter Karger was excluded for bringing down Stefan Nielsen at the first attempt Michael Palm Toft’s second win of the night in the restart cut the lead to just four points. Heeps sweep around Holder in Heat 9 steadied any home nerves as the sky grew ominously dark. With rain already falling it was left to Kennett and Lykke who still found enough drive to fly round Nielsen and Simota despite the deteriorating conditions to ensure the Rockets eighth home win of the sea-son.

REDCAR 0.0 0.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 30/06/2016 RESULT: RAINED OFF AGREGATE SCORE Lady Luck again deserted both Redcar and Rye House as their 'mid-summer' Premier League clash fell foul to the bleakest and wettest of weather. Soaking rain didn't begin falling until 40 minutes or so before the scheduled start but, with no indication that it would stop and worse forecast for later in the night, there was little choice to make the decision to call off proceedings before a wheel had been spun in anger. Referee Michael Breckon originally decided to delay the start 15 minutes to see if the downpour would relent but, after further consultations with both skippers, Lasse Bjerre and Edward Kennett, it was announced the meeting was off around 7.40 p, It was the fifth time that attempts to complete a meeting at the Media Prima Arena have been thwarted by rain this season, while Rye House have suffered a similar number of postponements away from home, leaving them still with just one league match completed on their travels. Few could argue with the wisdom of the decision as the clouds got darker as the waterlogged track began to take on a dull shine and it was quickly agreed that September 15 would be pencilled in as a re-staging date.

IPSWICH 48.0 45.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 07/07/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE Danny King put thoughts of Cardiff on hold to scorch to an impressive maximum that keeps alive Ipswich's season. The Witches need to win their four home meetings this month to keep in the hunt for a play-off, and the British Champion and wild card for last weekend's British Grand Prix ensured that he had tip-top equipment at Foxhall Stadium to collect three crucial league points. In contrast to when Ipswich scored a narrow Foxhall win over the Rockets in the Knockout Cup in May, Edward Kennett was far from his best, not helped by machinery problems. King managed just five points in that meeting, but he won two if the last three heats in style to deny Rye House a victory that looked possible when they closed the gap to one point with three races to go. Morten Risager's win in Heat 14 from the problematic outside gate was also important, as was James Sarjeant's three 5-1s in partnership with King. And late, late passes by Risager to win Heat 3 and Joe Jacobs to finish second in Heat 8 were also vital to the result. It was an entertaining meeting, with the visitors well served by most of their riders, but suffering from Kennett's lack of potency. Ipswich did not help themselves when Sarjeant went into the tapes in Heat 8 and, after making the start in the re-run, Jacobs went wide on turn two. And in Heat 11, was clear of Kennett when Jacobs was squeezed out and hit the deck on the third bend. In the re-run, Kennett made the break to claim six points and haul the Rockets back into the meeting.

WORKINGTON 55.0 35.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 16/07/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE On a dry and bright evening the Comets returned to Derwent Park after a gap of five weeks since their last home meeting and continued where they left off with a comfortable home victory over Rye House. For the Comets it proved to be an extremely solid all-round team performance with their eight race wins shared amongst five riders, while the remaining two Comets each had at least one paid win to their name and every team member achieved at least a paid eight return for their efforts. The key to the Comets' success was in avoiding last places and it was not until Heat 13, when Claus Vissing was pushed wide by Stuart Robson on the first turn, that the Comets had a last place on their score chart. But by then the Comets had already secured victory and the Rockets were just racing for pride. But, despite their 20-point margin of victory, the meeting was much more entertaining than the final score would suggest; with several races keenly contested right to the chequered flag. Meanwhile, the inclusion of former Comet as a guest for the Rockets injured No.1 Edward Kennett proved to be a shrewd move by the visitors. Stead went on to top score with 14 points, dropping his only point when headed home from tape to flag by Kenneth Hansen in Heat 5, while Robson and the exciting Kasper Lykke provided him with some valuable support. Having won his opening ride, Lykke was given a tactical ride in Heat 7, however an excellent ride by Adam Roynon kept him pegged at the back. But, when Lykke took to the track again in Heat 10 he produced a storming ride to eventually overcome Rickey Wells after a two-lap battle before setting off after Mason Campton and passing him on the final lap to take the race win. Lykke was again involved in a terrific four-lap battle in Heat 14, this time with Rasmus Jensen, as they passed and re-passed throughout, with Jensen getting the verdict at the chequered flag by a wheel. The final heat saw another thrilling race to end the night with, as all four riders were in close contention for just over a lap before Stead pulled away with Wells on his tail, but behind them Robson and Hansen threw everything at each other in an exciting duel as they passed and re- passed before Robson just held on to take the odd point at the finish.

GLASGOW 54.0 36.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 17/07/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE Tigers maintained their 100 per cent home record with another comprehensive victory at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium. The match followed what has become a familiar pattern at Glasgow's home matches. The away side give as good as they get in the first half of the match, before the home side exert their authority in the later heats to pull away for a comfortable victory. Rye House only provided two heat winners in the match, but the 5-1 that Robert Branford and Ben Morley got in Het 2 enabled them to restrict the Tigers to a narrow two-point lead after eight heats. An excellent ride by Fernando Garcia in Heat 8 set the Tigers on their way, as up until that point the Glasgow top four had got precious little support from their other three team-mates. The second half of the match was dominated by the Tigers. They collected six heat advantages in the closing seven races, to which the Rockets had no answer. The Tigers heat leaders were in top form. Richard Lawson breezed his way to a paid maximum, while the powerful middle order pairing of and Rene Bach only dropped one point apiece. Skipper Aaron Summers won his first four rides before dropping his first points to Stuart Robson in the final heat. Rye House packed the minor places in the first half of the match, enabling them to stop the Tigers building a decent lead. It wasn't until Heat 12 that the Rockets could use their tactical ride. Cameron Heeps was their only option and it proved to be a bit of a disaster as Heeps fell while trailing the other three riders. Glasgow will be hoping that the injured Nike Lunna returns to track action sooner rather than later, as the lack of points from reserve berths may yet prove costly/

RYE HOUSE 45.0 47.0 SOMERSET DATE: 31/07/2016 RESULT: AWAY WIN AGREGATE SCORE Rohan Tungate proved the match winner as the Rebels fought off a determined home comeback to keep their unbeaten league record intact. The Australian recovered from an exclusion in his opening ride to win both Heats 13 and 15 to delight the travelling Rebel army. Twelve points in front with six heats left, it seemed the visitors had done enough in the first part of the meeting to earn a comfortable victory. A home maximum in Heat 10 changed all that though, with Eddie Kennett introduced for double points being followed home by the inconsistent Leigh Lanham. After Josh Grajczonek had pressured the fast-starting Rob Branford into a mistake in the next race, it was a 5-0 in Heat 12 that levelled the scores. At the first time of asking, Charles Wright clipped the back of Ben Morley's machine, catapulting him into the second bend air fence. The re- start saw the Rockets on a comfortable maximum until Jake Allen fell on the final lap. With momentum behind them it looked as if the Rockets could complete an unlikely comeback until Tungate flew out of gate four in Heat 13 with Kennett and Robson in hot pursuit. It looked as if the scores would stay level until a last second burst off the fourth bend took Grajczonek ahead of Robson by the narrowest of margins on the line to open a two-point advantage. That was the second of two close calls for referee Dave Watters, who judged that the impressive Jake Allen had just pipped Branford on the line in Heat 2. Lead re-established, the Rebels held their nerve as wins by Starke and Tungate secured their seventh away victory of the season, leaving the Rockets to ponder on what might have been. They will no doubt look back on Branford's and Heeps' inability to hold off opponents after near perfect starts and sluggish opening rides for both Lanham and Lykke. In the end though, the Rebels' consistency which saw six of the team achieve at least a paid win proved the decisive factor on an afternoon of high quality entertainment for the big crowd.

EDINBURGH 45.0 44.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 05/08/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE This was one of the most over-dramatic matches ever seen at Armadale. Only when it was completed and everyone was more or less left in one piece, with a narrow home win and a deserved point for Rye House, could you look back and say it had been a night of drama and one to remember for several reasons good and bad. The first two heats were routine, Mark Riss lost a point in Heat 1 when he messed up the third bend, and the home reserves continued where they left off the previous week by taking five form a re-run Heat 2. Then the problems started. Ryan Fisher lost control on the first corner of Heat 3 and took himself and partner Erik Riss into the fence head on at high speed. A terrible looking crash but amazingly both riders rose, though their bikes were both wrecked. It was a surprise the American wasn't excluded from the re-run, but neither rider was his usual self on their other bikes. Meanwhile, the inevitable Armadale rain had started falling and we had about a 30-minute delay as it stopped and started, waiting for it to pass over. Kevin Wolbert then had a machine problem in Heat 4, hastily borrowed a bike from Sam Masters and duly stopped on that! Stuart Robson passed Dan Bewley and the gap was just two points. It was certainly looking like one of those nights for Monarchs, and Wolbert, like Riss and Fisher, was now on his second bike. Edward Kennett brilliantly came from third place to win Heat 5, forcing the slower Fisher off his line on the last corner, and while Masters was rock solid in Heat 6, his partner Mark Riss was totally at sea on the wetter, heavier track. One home man who was going well was Max Clegg and he joined Wolbert for a 5-1 in Heat 7 which allowed the fans to breathe a little more easily. Kasper Lykke won Heat 8 from the back, then former Monarch Rob Branford and Robson took the easiest 5-1 you will ever see form Fisher and Riss and we were right back in the melting pot. Clegg had the temerity to cut back and pass Kennett in Heat 11 but the Rockets' No.1 got back round the outside, and with Wolbert trailing at the back this time, the scores were level. It was a surprise that Erik Riss was allowed to take his final ride but it proved the right decision as the German snapped out of his depressing form to win easily. In the clash of the giants, Masters beat Kennett in Het 13 with Wolbert at one point close to getting into second, but as least taking an absolutely vital point form Robson. Rockets used Branford to replace Leigh Lanham rather than Ben Morley in Heat 14, and that was not an inspired decision as Morley took his third fall of the night. This ultimately cost Rye House a draw as Clegg added to the home woes by shedding a chain at the start. The score was 43-40 going into the last race, but with such committed riders as Masters, Fisher, Kennett and Robson anything was possible. Masters gated, Kennett cut back under him but Robson had picked up on the inside line and took everyone across the corner and into the fence. As with the earlier pile-up it looked pretty bad as bikes and riders bounced around, but all four were back at the start remarkably quickly. Kennett was away again but he had Masters on his tail, the Monarchs' captain pressing his opposite number rather than riding defensively for the second place he needed. It was just enough and the home fans breathed easily at last.

BERWICK 53.0 37.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 06/08/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE Berwick gave themselves a great chance of qualification for the semi-finals of the KO Cup when they beat Rye House in the quarter-final first leg tie at Shielfield on Saturday. The Bandits put their recent league form behind them to build up a healthy 16-point advantage, which they will hope to defend when they travel to Hoddesdon for the return at the end of the month. The Rockets had tow of the more dominant riders on display, in the shape of Edward Kennett and Stuart Robson, but the Bandits were the more solid unit and scored consistently throughout. Kennett, a one-time Bandit, was unbeaten in his first three outings and also picked up a paid win in Heat 15, which was damage limitation on the visitors' part, whilst Robson also won three of his five races. But Cameron Heeps was the only other Rye rider to take the chequered flag, leaving Berwick to control the meeting throughout. It was difficult to pick out any one rider, but Liam Carr had an outstanding night, dropping only one point from his four races, when he was beaten by Robson in Heat 4. Thomas Jorgensen and Matty Wethers, apart from their Heat 15 blip were consistent, as was Theo Pijper, all three finishing with double- figure returns. Kevin Doolan also chipped in with some useful points, whilst Dany Gappmaier showed his emerging talent with a fine race against Kennett in Heat 11, only to unfortunately fall on the apex of the third and fourth bend on the third lap after the former GB man managed to find a way past. New boy Dawid Stachyra also finished the meeting more strongly after a slow start. Two 5-1s in the first three races put Berwick in the driving seat at 13-5. Rye House managed to reduce the deficit with a 2-4 in six, but two more 5-1s from the home side in Heats 8 and 9, which put them 34-20 in front, saw them stamp their authority on the match. In the closing stages the sides swapped heat advantages (three for the Bandits and two for the Rockets), in a meeting which was concluded within an hour and a half. Jorgensen and Doolan took what felt like a big 4-2 over Robson and Kennett pairing in Heat 13 but in Heat 15 Kennett again produced a fine passing move off the last bend to beat Wethers in the race for the line, securing a 1-5 with Robson which will give the visitors something to cling onto for the return.

NEWCASTLE 57.0 36.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 07/08/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE The Diamonds comfortably got a win as they reached the halfway mark in their PL programme, though they are still in ninth place and a few points shy of other play-off rivals. Getting fixtures completed is now of the utmost importance so, with heavy rain forecast for later in the evening, the prematch parade was aborted and referee Dave Watters kept everyone on their toes with constant use of the two-minute warning. An opening three-race blast put Newcastle ahead 14-4, to establish superiority, though home fans knew Stuart Robson would likely pose a threat all night as he always does at Byker. Robbo was beaten Steve Worrall first time out, and after a second 5-1 from Ludvig Lindgren and Matej Kus the Diamonds were already looking home and dry at 22-8 in front. After their opening race 5-1 over Edward Kennett, Robert Lambert and Victor Palovaara probably never expected their next outing to prove such a problem, even though Robson was in the line-up. However, unbeknown to both Diamonds, Robert Branford, promoted from the ranks of National League Rye House Raiders, has a Brough Park guest appearance (for Berwick) late last year on his CV in which he notched 11+1. Branford and Robbo made a terrific start, got out in front and, thanks to an exquisite piece of team-riding by the veteran, defied everything Lambert threw at them for a shock 5-1. the Rockets' duo's amazing success unfortunately failed to inspire the rest of the side, but Branford won two more, beating Palovaara in Heat 8 despite giving the second bend fence a whack on the way, and then, best of the lot, rounded Kus in Heat 12 before speeding off. In between those victories, Branford and Robson also teamed up in Heat 9 with Robbo on a TR. It meant Lindgren, with 18 races undefeated by a visitor at Byker, was up against the last man to beat him (Robson) a month earlier. And, after another fast gate, Robbo did it again, though the Swede and Kus notched an untroubled three points after Branford hit the fourth bend fence and miraculously stayed aboard. Thereafter, the Diamonds dominated proceedings, taking five heat advantages from the last six, as Lambert reeled off three wins with great support form Worrall, Lindgren and Lewis Rose, whose maximum chances were ended by Kennett in a pulsating duel for second spot in Heat 11.

RYE HOUSE 44.0 46.0 GLASGOW DATE: 13/08/2016 RESULT: AWAY WIN AGREGATE SCORE Another pulsating match at Hoddesdon, saw Glasgow claim their second away win in 24 hours. Such was the fine margin this result was decided by a cats whiskers with Aaron Summers grabbing the referee Paul Carrington heat 13 decision. But in a match that had more talking points than Brexit, it was the Tigers who twice came from six points behind to snatch the win. It all start so well for the Rockets who took a first race 5-1 after Summers failed to get off the start line. Indeed the Rockets looked likely to repeat the 5-1 in heat two until the erratic, but spectacular Nike Lunna piled into the back of Branford entering lap two, somehow he managed to get back to his feet after an alarming looking spill. In the re-run it was 17 year old Dan Bewley who rode to victory. Lunna was quickly back on his machine as he came out for a rider replacement ride in heat 3, storming past Heeps and Lykke to victory. Bewley picked off Morley in heat four to keep the gap at four before Summers again failed in get off the start line in heat 5 as the Rockets increased the gap to six, before Kennet took a nasty fall on lap two whilst chasing Lawson, the tigers grabbing a 5-1 of their own in the re-run. Robson and Branford restored the six point gap in heat 7. The Tigers hit a fine 5-1 in heat 9, despite the efforts of Lykke to bring it back to two at 28-26. Heat ten, saw Bewley ride a brilliant pillar to post victory over the chasing Kennett with Worrall grabbing third from Lanham, to square things up. Summers gained his first points of the night with victory in heat 11 and Worrall did likewise in the 12th to keep it level, before the race of the night, if not the season. Kennet won heat thirteen from the chasing Lawson, but it was the race behind them, with Robson and Summers passing and re-passing with the Rocket appearing to snatch third on the line, but not according to referee Carrington who gave it to the Tiger. Glasgow went for the kill, with Worrall taking the R/R and Lunna coming in at reserve and they duly shot from the start with Lykke somehow managing to take Worrall in spectacular style to leave the home side requiring a 5-1 to win. Robson and Kennet duly made the start but Lawson powered his way past the Rockets down the back straight to give the visitors the victory. All in all this was another wonderful advert for Premier League speedway.

PLYMOUTH 48.0 45.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 19/08/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE Plymouth climbed a couple of places in the league table with a dramatic last gasp victory over Rye House in a keenly contested match at the St. Boniface Arena. Ben Barker, guesting for Jack Holder, and reserve Sam Simota were the trump cards for the Devils while the Rockets suffered through the absence of Edward Kennett. Ironically, Kennett missed the meeting because he was due to race for Lakeside in an match at Coventry that was rained off on Friday morning. His guest Ryan Douglas managed only three points from three rides before being replaced by reserve Robert Branford for his final race. Despite their weakened side, Rye House shook Plymouth by taking a ten-point lead in the first four heats, which they increased to 12 following Heat 9. The Devils responded in Heat 10, however, with an 8-1 from Barker, on a tactical ride, and Simota against Kasper Lykke and Leigh Lanham. It was not until Heat 14 that the Devils took the lead for the first time with a 5-1 from Todd Kurtz, his only win of the evening, and Simota against Ben Morley and Lanham. That left Plymouth with a one-point lead going into the last heat decider in which home skipper Kyle Newman inflicted the only defeated of the match on Rye House's impressive Stuart Robson while Barker held third spot from Branford. The victory completed a substantial turn-around for Plymouth, who failed to provide the winner of any of the first four heats, but had the first man home in eight of the remaining 11 races.

RYE HOUSE 54.0 36.0 BERWICK DATE: 29/08/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE 91.0 89.0 Rye House BMR Rockets progressed to the Cup semi finals in another wonderful advert for Premier League Speedway, served up by two excellent sides in Hertfordshire in front of a bumper Bank Holiday crowd. The Bandits held a sixteen point lead going into the tie, but the rampant Rockets set about their task from the off when Kasper Lykke stormed through the field to join skipper Edward Kennett up front for an opening heat 5-1. Liam Carr showed his liking for the Hoddesdon raceway with a good win in heat two, before Cameron Heeps and Leigh Lanham rode a excellent heat 3 to knock I another 5-1 for the home side. The visitors, them seemed to be in control of the situation with Jorgensen and the surprisingly Stachyra left from the tapes and was quickly joined by Doolan for a 1-5 to put the aggregate back to a dozen. Kennett then produced a masterpiece to win heat six with Lykke, just failing to catch Jorgensen for a 4-2. The home side continued to take the chequered flag in each of the next seven heats, but the Bandits still looked comfortable for a aggregate success. It was indeed two races in particular that stood out first Ben Morley’s sublime pass of Doolan and Carr in heat 11 for a 5-1 which put the home side 14 points up on the day and just two behind on aggregate and then Rob Branford's amazing burst from last to first on bends three and four in heat 12, with Heeps snatching the all important third to level the tie up at 81-81. Jorgensen, shot from the start in heat 13 and was quickly joined by Doolan, but Kennett again stormed past both of them on the back straight, with Robson edging out Doolan for third to put the Rockets in front for the first time at 85-83. The Bandits were not quite finished as Gappmaier was brought in to replace Carr and rode a great four laps to hold out the pushing Lanham and Morley doing likewise with Wethers to set up a last heat decider. Doolan made a great start, but Kennett quickly picked him off to take the lead, Robson likewise was picked off by Jorgensen, but neither of the Bandits were going to catch the Rockets skipper who stormed to victory and a 15 point maximum, to the delight of the very noisy crowd.

SHEFFIELD 56.0 37.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 01/09/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE A Stop-start meeting which underlined that seemingly annual call that speedway's rule book needs an overhaul, with common sense being up there at the top of the priority list. It was a shame that an entertaining match in front of a big crowd was spoiled by some jobsworth decisions form the referee's box, calls made at key times and which hampered the visitors' hopes of taking some reward home. Take Heat 3 for instance: Leigh Lanham took a first ride look at the track but then cut across the concreate infield curtain to get to the tapes (as have dozens of riders in the past) - and was promptly excluded for leaving the track even before the start marshal had brought the four under starter's orders. Lanham out, reserve Robert Branford in. Branford was promptly 'replaced' by Ben Morley in the fourth only to fall foul of this season's new ruling that reserves can't be swapped in that particular race. A correct call this time but nevertheless more confusion and delay. Then in Heat 11 there was a double exclusion at the same time at the start. Arthur Sissis touched them and was rightly excluded while David Bellego, with six points under his belt in his previous ride, was also chucked out on his ear because his engine had stalled at the start and he was deemed not under power when the button was pushed. Mega confusion this time, especially when Rockets didn't put out a replacement, more delays and little wonder that a lot of empty spaces had started to appear on the terraces. Most of the new fans that Sheffield had tried to encourage during the school holidays must have wondered what the heck was going on. It all undermined a good win for the Tigers in their play-off chase, Jason Garrity leading the charge with a paid maximum, including a great attempt to slow Heat 11 down to try and allow Sissis to get past Kasper Lykke (he didn't). Simon Stead's hopes of a full house ended when his motor stopped in Heat 10 while second behind Josh Bates, having just surged past Lanham. Tigers were solid throughout and never looked like relinquishing a point, especially after three successive 5-1s for starters. Stuart Robson was best for the Rockets with his never-give-up performance while newcomer Rob Branford impressed at reserve, although he was lucky not to end up on the dog track in Heat 14 after losing control while at the front.

SCUNTHORPE 51.0 39.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 09/09/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE Scunthorpe were made to work hard by Rye House to finish their home fixtures with a win. Although the home side provided 12 race winners, Scunthorpe only made sure of the win in the penultimate race. However, it was a frustrating night of sorts for the Scorpions as every time they won, the other rider finished last meaning they could not build up any kind of advantage. It was only two heat maximums in the last three races that saw them take a hard fought win. Ryan Douglas, on his birthday finished with a paid maximum, while Michael Palm Toft only dropped one point in a total of 14. A heat maximum gave the Scorpions the perfect start, which was followed up by a Rockets 4-2 which left the Scorpions with a two-point advantage. That was the way it stayed until Heat 10 after seven successive shared heats, six of which were won by Scorpions riders, although they were made to work hard in some of the races. The succession of shared heats was broken in Heat 10 in one of the races of the night. The Rockets riders gated but Palm Toft fought his way to the front, while Josh Auty was all over the back wheel of former Scorpion Leigh Lanham, finally passing him down the back straight of the final lap. Douglas kept up his hopes of a maximum in the next race, chasing down Edward Kennett all the way to the line and taking victory by half a wheel. A pivotal Heat 13 saw a 5-1 for the Scorpions as Douglas flew from the gate four but the action was behind him. Auty first passed Kennett and then Stuart Robson to give the Scorpions the much-needed 5-1, before the same score line in the final heat which was won by Palm Toft with Douglas second completed the win.

Stuart Robson, Edward Kennett and Thomas Jorgensen all had fans on the edge of their seasts with some high speed action and passing, but more than any it was new boy Tom Perry who caught the eye, coming from the back in three of his races, including one where he passed both Rockets. Rob Branford was unbeaten in his first three outings for the visitors, and this meant Rye kept the score line close in the early stages, Bandits only managed to eke out a two-point lead at 19-17 after six heats. Perry, in only his second meeting for the team, had passed Ben Morley in Heat 2, whilst Robson and Jorgensen had a real battle on the first lap of Heat 4. It was Perry who helped Berwick get the breakthrough in Heat 7 when he overhauled Leigh Lanham for a 5-1 with Jorgensen, and with Dany Gappmaier and Liam Carr repeating the dose in Heat 8, Bandits were suddenly ten in front at 29-19. Robson, as a double pointed tactical won in Heat 9 for a 1-8 with Branford and at 30-27 the meeting was still in the balance. But Berwick, still smarting from their KO Cup defeat at the hands of the Rockets, were determined to finish with a flourish and a run of four 5- 1s in the next five races took them past the winning post. The pick of the bunch was Perry's battle from the back in Heat 14 when he passed both Lanham and Branford, deservedly earning him the 'Rider of the Night@ award. Robson got the better of Jorgensen in Heat 15 to conclude events for 2016, but whilst the majority of fans left satisfied with the performance and the result, most thoughts were on the future and whether or not the Bandits will go to the tapes for their 50th season in 2017

PETERBOROUGH 46.0 43.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 12/09/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE A surprise was pretty much guaranteed regardless of the outcome of this fixture. In the end, Peterborough just about succeeded in keeping their fading play-off hopes alive by winning their final home meeting and denying rock-bottom Rye House a first away success of the season in a dramatic last-heat decider that took around half-an-hour to complete. Kenneth Bjerre and Ulrich Ostergaard arrived at the tapes for the finale with their side a point down and knowing they needed an advantage to send Peterborough back into the play-off zone. Their task became easier when both Rye House riders hit the deck on the opening lap. Stuart Robson spectacularly came to grief with partner Cameron Heeps taking instant avoiding action, although it was the young Australian who came off worst and had to leave the track in an ambulance. Therefore, with Robson excluded, Rockets boss Peter Schroeck had to send out impressive reserve Rob Branford as his sole representative in the re-run, but he couldn't live with the Panthers duo who eased to a 5-1. Rye House deserved their consolation point for a plucky display in which they briefly led on three occasions. For Peterborough, it was the usual story of late with four riders piling up 42 points between them and the remaining three only managing four, but it could be argued that Zdenek Holub's third spot in Heat 14 was as important as any they gained. The Czech rider would have had more after breezing to victory in Heat 2, only for eagle-eyed referee Dave Watters to spot he did not have a chain guard on his machine. He was excluded post-race and with partner Danny Halsey having fallen, it gifted Rye House a 5-0.

RYE HOUSE 51.0 41.0 SHEFFIELD DATE: 13/09/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE The Rockets took a big step towards avoiding the wooden spoon on a night when the date definitely proved unlucky for the visitors. Just about everything that could go wrong for the Tigers did, as machinery problems and the loss of influential skipper Simon Stead left their play off hopes in the balance. Stead the newly crowned Premier League Riders Champion was withdrawn from the meeting after losing control in his second ride sustaining an ankle injury. The fact the visitors were on a comfortable 5-1 at the time definitely adding insult to injury. Josh Bates shared his skippers frustration failing to get his machinery going properly until his fifth ride a win over the chasing Leigh Lanham proving much too little too late. The Rockets turned in a solid all round team performance despite missing injured skipper Eddie Kennett and Cameron Heeps. All six team members achieving at least a paid win with reserves Rob Branford and Ben Morley both catching the eye. It was a maximum from the classy Sam Masters and the hard working Kasper Lykke in Heat 6 that established an advantage the home side never relinquished. Up until that point with Kyle Howarth and Dimitri Berge both in fine form the Tigers looked as if they could push on to repeat last seasons success in Hoddesdon. By Heat 9 though the visitors found themselves 10 points behind after Morley and Lanham had taken advantage of Sissis two minute time exclusion forcing them to send the in form Howarth into the next race for double points. Masters though kept the Sheffield man back as Bates machinery problems continued to frustrate. A maximum for Sissis and Howarth in Heat 12 did cut the deficit back to just 6 until two sharp gates from stand in skipper Stuart Robson made sure of the league points for the Rockets.

REDCAR 41.0 49.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 15/09/2016 RESULT: AWAY WIN AGREGATE SCORE Robert Branford and Stuart Robson returned to haunt their former employers whilst helping ensure that Rye House will finish a mixed season well off the foot of the table. The Rockets got off to the perfect start when Kasper Lykke blasted between the two Bears exiting the second bend to join Edward Kennett for a 5-1 and, although quickly pegged back and even trailing for a couple of heats, once the action moved to the right hand side of the race card, there was only likely to be one winner. Branford put in his best display at the South Tees Motorsports Part since leaving while Robson, Bears skipper in 2015, was pure class when sealing the victory by team-riding with Kennett to hold off the dual charge of David Bellego and Bjerre in Heat 13. Kennett, back after missing three meetings with a knee injury, was hit of miss but finished as the visitors' third double-figured scorer, whilst Lykke and Leigh Lanham also gave solid support. But it was Branford at reserve who made the difference between the sides, netting paid 14 against the Bears Nos. 6 and 7 who managed only paid six between them. With both sides operating rider replacement for middle-order men hurt earlier in the week, the Australian's contribution was decisive and any side with a reserve having six rides and not recording on last place is going to be tough to beat. Hugh Skidmore and Lasse Bjerre put in sterling shifts to keep the Bears in the hunt but Skidmore's first defeat, in Heat 9, was the beginning of the end for the SG Petch Bears' fading hopes of avoiding the wooden spoon for a second successive season. Without recently high-scoring Jonas B Andersen and with Bellego unable to rekindle his PLRC form of four days beforehand, Redcar's top two had only sporadic support. Bjerre's three-race winning run came to an end in the Robson master-class which led to that text book Heat 13 shutout and , although both he and Skidmore gave the home fans something to cheer in a thrilling Heat 15, it was too little too late for the side fast becoming perennial basement dwellers. Skidmore was undoubtedly the individual star of the night and his tow passes of Kennett, scorching around the white line on the pits bend in Heat 5 then powering through down the back straight in the last race, offered a timely reminder of what a superb comeback the popular Aussie has made after missing most of last season through a worrying shoulder injury. However, Kennett's second place was enough to ensure the Rockets would deservedly take all four points back to Hertfordshire.

RYE HOUSE 48.0 45.0 SCUNTHORPE DATE: 19/09/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE The Rockets and the Scorpions provided plenty of talking points as the curtain came down on the Premier League season in Hoddesdon. Scunthorpe are the only current league team never to have won at Rye House but with three heats remaining it looked as if the class of 2016 might make his-tory. Trailing by 10 points after only four heats it looked as if the Rockets would have a comfortable evening until a controversial Heat 5 brought the visitors right back into the contest. Introduced for double points both Tomas Jorgensen and partner Michael Palm-Toft looked to be rolling when the tapes went up but despite the crowds protests the race was allowed to continue the resultant 8-1 cutting the lead to just three points. With Josh Bates in fine form the visitors made the most of their luck to match the home side at every turn. Having led from the outset the Rockets found them-selves behind after Bates and Lewis Kerr rode Ben Morley out of contention in Heat 12. After Stuart Robson uncharacteristically ploughed through the tapes in the next race it seemed like the pendulum had swung in the Scorpions favour. Rob Branford though had other ideas, introduced for a reserve ride he held on doggedly to keep Jorgensen at the back of the field as Edward Kennett outpaced Bates. The Aussie reserve produced more heroics in the next race almost bouncing off the air fence before holding off a last gasp effort from Bates on the line. The Rockets in front by one more controversy followed as the Scorpions were denied the chance to use original choice Palm-Toft in Heat 15. The two minutes then being allowed to expire on a rider who’s identity was kept a mystery from the crowd allowing the in form Bates out for a final ride. The home side though had the last laugh as Kennett given the gift of his favourite gate four produced a blistering start while Robson used all his experience to repel the charging Bates securing the win.

RYE HOUSE 47.0 43.0 NEWCASTLE DATE: 08/10/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE The Diamonds emerged as favourites to face Glasgow in the final after a dramatic night in East Hertfordshire. Things started in promising fashion for the home fans, guest for the night Nicolaj Busk Jakobsen out sprinting the chasing Ben Barker in Heat 1. For the Cornishman that was as good as it was to get with two unfamiliar last places and an exclusion in a controversial Heat 13 ending his night. The Rockets provided the first four heat winners but failed to take full advantage edging out a four point lead by heat 8. Some excellent team riding by Steve Worrall and Ashley Morris keeping the lively Cameron Heeps back levelled the scores in the next race. Having lost the services of skipper Ludvig Lindgren after a nasty coming together with Heeps in Heat 3 Newcastle were forced to give Morris extra rides and the late season addition took full advantage. On another 5-1 with Matej Kus in Heat 10 the visitors were robbed of a maximum when the experienced Czech’s bike gave up the ghost. The Rockets produced a maximum of their own in Heat 12 thanks to Morley’s excellent inside pass off the second bend establishing a six point lead with three races left. Heat 13 provided the biggest talking points of the evening as Stuart Robson was caught between Worrall and Barker at the first time of asking forcing a re-start. With three riders at the tapes Barker frantically tried to get off the track to attend to an ailing machine but was denied by the track staff. Still smarting the Diamonds guest then cut straight in front of Robson on the third bend taking both himself and his opponent into the fence. With a two on one against Worrall in the third re-start the Rockets were hopeful of stretching their lead but the Diamonds man had other ideas, forced wide on the first turn he chased down Robson, and Jakobsen to record a memorable victory. Further success for Morris and Worrall in the final two heats leaving the Diamonds smiling as they headed home for the second leg.

NEWCASTLE 56.0 34.0 RYE HOUSE DATE: 09/10/2016 RESULT: HOME WIN AGREGATE SCORE 99.0 81.0 Terrific performances by Steve Worrall and Robert Lambert ensured there was to be no repeat of the previous week's slip-up against Sheffield, and saw the Diamonds through to the Knockout Cup Final and a meeting with Glasgow. They each notched a five-ride paid maximum, and the latter's gating has not previously looked as good as this at Byker. Rye House arrived with a four-point advantage from the previous evening, but were quickly behind on aggregate after Lambert and Victor Palovaara took a 4-2 in the opener and reserves Ashley Morris and Danny Phillips got the first 5-1 of the night over Leigh Lanham in the next. However, Heat 3 sent shock waves through the Newcastle side of the pits as Cameron Heeps and Rob Branford gated quicker than Diamonds' Swedes and held their advantage throughout to put the Rockets back in front again overall, 55-53. Strangely, that was to prove the Rockets' only heat advantage of the night and, remarkably, the only time a Rye House rider took the chequered flag. Palovaara and Ludvig Lingren made some adjustments to their bikes and what a difference it made as they blew away Edward Kennett and Kasper Lykke two races later to set the Diamonds well and truly on their way to the final. The Rockets' strategy from then on appeared to be ensuring a Newcastle man came home last, and five of the next seven heats were shared 3-3, which meant Rye House were still in with a shout - unlikely though it looked - trailing, 84-78, on aggregate with just three heats left. The first of two Lambert and Worrall 5-1s, however, left the Rockets in an impossible position after Heat 13. Kennett, from whom much had been expected following his heroics in the ELRC the night before, tried muscling Lambert out of contention on the run to the first bend, but it didn't come off and the two Diamonds emerged in front out of the second turn. Lindgren, riding with a knee injury sustained at Rye House and aboard a cobbled together bike, added another 5-1 with Morris over Lanham before Newcastle's 'big two' made it a hat-trick of maximum heat wins in the finale. There wasn't much exciting racing all night, with probably a terrific second-place duel between Lindgren and Robson in Heat 9, and Phillips' thrilling overtake of Lanham in Heat 2 the highlights. It also looks like the Brough Park starting gate is getting ready for the scrap heap after another annoying performance of refusing to go up evenly, causing three stoppages. However, that should not detract from a night when the Diamonds set out on a mission to reach the Knockout Cup Final and achieved it.
