License ID: 32649 COMPACT and single title Journal subscriptions 6 DocuSign Envelope ID: E6376577-F927-4C82-8CA6-F3000577C5FD Product Terms COMPACT and Single Title Journal Subscriptions WHEREAS, therefore, the Licensor, Customer and the Licensees intend to establish a legal and economic framework to allow: (a) eligible authors from Licensees to publish open access articles in the Open Choice journals listed in Schedule 1 (Open Choice Journals), whereby article processing charges would be already considered as a part of the overall fees under these Product Terms; and (b) access to the journals listed in Schedule 3 (Content). These Product Terms incorporate the following Schedules: • Schedule 1 Open Choice Journals • Schedule 2 APC Rates • Schedule 3 Subscribed Journals 1. Term The Term shall begin on January 1st 2018 (the “Commencement Date”) and shall end on December 31st 2021. PART A – OPEN ACCESS PUBLISHING 2. Definitions 2.1. The following terms shall have the following meanings when used within these Product Terms, and shall apply in addition to the definitions included in Section 1 of the General Terms and Conditions: 2.1.1. “APC Fund” means the fund from which Eligible Authors can publish Eligible Articles, as specified in the License Fee section of this Agreement; 2.1.2. “Article Approval Process” means the Publisher’s standard approval portal for journals (excluding any Non-Standard Journals); 2.1.3. “Article Processing Charge” means the Publisher’s article processing charge for publishing an open access article in the applicable journal, as specified in Schedule 2 (APC Rates); 2.1.4. “Eligible Authors” means authors who (i) have signed one of the then current open access publishing agreements used at the Licensor to publish an article in one of the Licensor’s Open Choice Journals which current list (subject to change by the Licensor) is attached in Schedule 1 (“Open Choice Journals”) under an Open Access License, and who are (ii) “Affiliated” with a Licensee, i.e. students enrolled or accredited to Licensee, and the teaching and research staff employed by or otherwise accredited to the Licensee, whereby in case of articles published by multiple authors, only the corresponding author may qualify as an Affiliated Author, and (iii) for which a Licensee has confirmed the status as Affiliated Author. For the avoidance of doubt, it is the sole responsibility of the Licensee to verify if an author is an Affiliated Author. If the Licensee confirmed the affiliation of an author with respect to an article, this author shall be deemed an Affiliated Author. 2.1.5. “Eligible Articles” means articles (i) which are original and not infringe on any law and/or third party right and meet all ethical standards as required in the current guidelines of the Commission for Publication Ethics (COPE) and other policies of the Licensor, (ii) which are written by Eligible Authors, (iii) which are accepted by the Licensor License ID: 32649 COMPACT and single title Journal subscriptions 7 DocuSign Envelope ID: E6376577-F927-4C82-8CA6-F3000577C5FD with an acceptance date during the Term and published in an Open Choice Journal, and (iv) which are in one of the following article types: a) Original Paper – Standard article, usually presenting new results; articles published under this article type may also be referred to as Original Research, Original Article, Original Paper or Research Paper. b) Review Paper – Standard article, interpreting previously published results. c) Brief Communication – Short article submitted for rapid publication that exhibits the same structure as a standard article. d) Continuing Education – Article forming integral part of further education (usually medical). 2.1.6. “Non-Standard Journals” means the journals which are not published in the Licensor’s standard publications workflow, and/or in which respect the Licensor does not control the publication workflow and/or the terms and conditions under which such journals are published.     Ranking forestry journals using the h-index Journal of Informetrics, in press Jerome K Vanclay Southern Cross University PO Box 157, Lismore NSW 2480, Australia [email protected] Abstract An expert ranking of forestry journals was compared with journal impact factors and h -indices computed from the ISI Web of Science and internet-based data. Citations reported by Google Scholar offer an efficient way to rank all journals objectively, in a manner consistent with other indicators. This h-index exhibited a high correlation with the journal impact factor (r=0.92), but is not confined to journals selected by any particular commercial provider. A ranking of 180 forestry journals is presented, on the basis of this index. Keywords : Hirsch index, Research quality framework, Journal impact factor, journal ranking, forestry Introduction The Thomson Scientific (TS) Journal Impact Factor (JIF; Garfield, 1955) has been the dominant measure of journal impact, and is often used to rank journals and gauge relative importance, despite several recognised limitations (Hecht et al., 1998; Moed et al., 1999; van Leeuwen et al., 1999; Saha et al., 2003; Dong et al., 2005; Moed, 2005; Dellavalle et al., 2007). Other providers offer alternative journal rankings (e.g., Lim et al., 2007), but most deal with a small subset of the literature in any discipline. Hirsch’s h-index (Hirsch, 2005; van Raan, 2006; Bornmann & Daniel, 2007a) has been suggested as an alternative that is reliable, robust and easily computed (Braun et al., 2006; Chapron and Husté, 2006; Olden, 2007; Rousseau, 2007; Schubert and Glänzel, 2007; Vanclay, 2007; 2008).

    Press Release New York / Heidelberg 3 December 2014 The Science of Nature is new name of Springer’s journal Naturwissenschaften Continuous article publishing will be implemented for the multidisciplinary science journal Starting January 2015, the journal Naturwissenschaften ‐ The Science of Nature will have a new name. By switching the title and subtitle, it will be known as The Science of Nature and thus be more identifiable to the international scientific community. Maintaining the German subtitle Naturwissenschaften will provide a sense of identity to the journal’s distinguished 100‐year history. In addition to the new name, continuous article publishing (CAP) will be implemented starting in 2015. CAP means that each article, after peer‐review and acceptance, will be published immediately within the monthly issue, including a digital object identifier (DOI) and page numbers. By using CAP, the journal follows the trend of today’s electronic publishing, providing shorter publication time for all contributions. Sven Thatje, Editor‐in‐Chief, said, “The title change is undoubtedly going to increase the scientific community’s perception of the journal as an international venue for research. However, the academic focus of The Science of Nature remains the same and continuity is guaranteed.
