Diversify Wires Jockey Club Gold SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2017 FREE TRIP TO THE JUVENILE FOR >BILLY= DIVERSIFY WIRES JOCKEY The highly regarded Free Drop Billy (Union Rags), a very close CLUB GOLD CUP second in the seven-furlong GI Hopeful S. Sept. 4, posted a breakthrough four-length decision while negotiating two turns for the first time in Saturday=s GI Claiborne Breeders= Futurity at Keeneland, a >Win and You=re In= for the GI Breeders= Cup Juvenile. Longshots Bravazo (Awesome Again) and Lone Sailor (Majestic Warrior) were second and third. The race was marred by the ultimately fatal injury of >TDN Rising Star= Ten City (Run Away and Hide), who was abruptly pulled up after seizing control with a quick move on the far turn and vanned off. AWe always thought [two turns would suit him],@ winning trainer Dale Romans said. AIf you look at all his numbers on paper, every time they stretched a race a bit, he got a little bit better. Today, I think we saw what he is really capable of.@ Cont. p5 (Click here) IN TDN EUROPE TODAY ROLY POLY TOUGHS OUT THIRD GROUP 1 Diversify | Horsephotos The Aidan O’Brien trained Roly Poly (War Front) took the G1 New York-bred >TDN Rising Star= Diversify (Bellamy Road) Sun Chariot S. at Newmarket to put her trainer within reach of streaked to his third-straight front-running victory and first in a record number of Group 1 winners in a year. graded company in Saturday=s GI Jockey Club Gold Cup at Click or tap here to go straight to TDN Europe. Belmont Park to earn a guaranteed spot in the GI Breeders= Cup Classic. It was a length back to favored Keen Ice (Curlin) in second. >TDN Rising Star= Pavel (Creative Cause) was third. "We did pick up the 'Win and You're In' for the Classic today, but we're going to enjoy today's race and give it a couple of days,@ winning trainer Rick Violette said. AI talk it over with [owners] Lauren and Ralph Evans and we'll come up with a decision next week." Diversify was backed as the 7-2 second-choice following wins in the Saginaw S. at Belmont July 2 and the 1 1/8-miles Evan Shipman S. at Saratoga Aug. 21, both for New York-breds. He earned a career-high 108 Beyer Speed Figure in the latter, an 11 1/2-length wire-to-wire romp. Diversify was placed immediately on the lead from his rail draw here and showed the way through uncontested fractions of :24.17 and :47.74. He kicked for home in command, but Keen Ice and Pavel began breathing down his neck in the lane. That pair continued to chip away at Diversify=s advantage while locked together, but the leader kept on finding more to register a career high. Fellow New York-bred Haynesfield also won this race in 2010. Cont. p3 PRESIDENT & CO-PUBLISHER Barry Weisbord @barryweisbord [email protected] SR. The pace certainly made the race for us. My only instructions to Irad [Ortiz Jr.] was to ride him like he rode him in Saratoga.@ Ortiz added, AHe's a good horse and he's improving.
